It is true that they may tap wood threads, but the threads will be somewhat weak due to their size. These taps are designed for using on machine screws. Instead of using a screw on wood, try a threaded insert. If you need legs with a large diameter, you may need a special wood tap and die. But simply using wood glue will be cheaper.
As far as I can tell, it shouldn't. A tap that I have used before but never been able to match

It has been a long time since I last saw you. Cheap drill taps and other taps you might get in a kit are not worth your time. You won't want to miss these! I made a 3/4" Steel Plate guide from a hand held drill and a 3/4" drill press so I could get the proper tapping hole ready. Since I don't have a drill press with reverse, I had to drill the hole with a hand held drill. Pour a large amount of tapping fluid into the hole and plough it all the way in! With a regular tap, you will always snap it. These taps will eject as they plow forward. The first time I used them, I had 32 different 1/4"s. A mild steel 3/8" plate needs to have 20 holes tapped. The 20th). I was amazed at how easy it was to tap. As soon as I got to the last hole, I was terrified! Maybe I was supposed to use 11/64" instead of 13/64" when I drilled, and that's why it turned so easily! It was only after I frantically verified that I realized I had drilled the CORRECT hole and that it was in fact due to these BAD ASS taps that made the job There is no way I'll go back to a different tap. The absolute best lubricant to use is a good quality tapping lubricant, as well as a guide if you are tapping free hand. These taps are extremely aggressive and can easily chew up existing threads.
This tool fits easily through a full range of engine mount holes and is easy to use by hand. The spiral flutes minimize metal shavings and clean out dirt and debris. The threads on the small block have been cleaned, so now it can be put back together like new.
My skill level isn't that of a machinist who uses this tool daily, but the threads were exact and she cut my 316 stainless like it was.
In fact, you can even use WD40 to run a tap on aluminum in one pass if you stay within the drill's limitations. My current method of tapping 8020 extrusions is to tap several extrusions using this device.
We managed to get two turns out of it and it snapped like a twig on the turns without any effort. After two hours of attempting to get it out of the hole, I finally got it out. Originally, this was supposed to be a very strong material. Took the cheap China tap from harbor freight and it was much better than this. There will never be a second time.
This was used in a Grizzly Hand Tapping Machine to tap hundreds of 5/16-inch drilling holes A sheet of aluminum has 18 blind holes. I had ordered two more to have just-in-case I needed them. I lubricated this tap properly and this tap is going to last for a long, long time It may take me a while to need them, but at this rate I won't.
All day long, we're tapping holes To pull the chip up and out of the spiral flutes, they do a great job. I am power tapping with it and it's not stopping.
A well-rounded cutting tool that works well on aluminum.
