Although I have yet to use a die, I am confident in their abilities. The wrenches that come with it don't impress me at all - However, this was something I anticipated. I believe the wrenches could be used to make threads; however, I prefer to hold a high-quality tap or die wrench in my hands. br>I was very pleased with this tap and die set. Bottoming taps and a larger range of metric tooling in my toolbox are welcome additions to my toolbox. br>I like this set for the money.
Everything in this kit works great, but the only drawback is that you can't carry it by the handle because everything inside will get mixed up. To prevent this, I wrapped it in bubble wrap until I could find a suitable piece of foam.
The internal organizers are made of thin plastic that has been vacuum formed. The lettering is clear and easy to read, but I can see them falling apart after a few years of use. I believe that a higher-quality organizer, such as an injection-molded insert, would have received five stars. br>br>I like how this kit includes both a plug and a bottoming tap. Although not ready for production, it appears to be a good value for the home hobbyist.
The tools are adequate for light housework and shade tree maintenance. The case is attractive, but the two plastic retaining sheets that keep the tools in place are stacked inside the case and difficult to open and close. It has a small footprint, but opening it and getting to the tools you need takes a minute, and unpacking it takes up a lot of bench space. Using the blister-packing material, create a case that opens like a book. Without having to dismantle the entire kit, a pack securely glued to the outer case would allow for better access and visibility of all of the tools. br>Tools get a 5 out of 5 for value and quality. br>Case gets a 2 out of 5 for usability and layout.
I was hoping to use this on a shop with air regulator fittings, but nothing would fit. It appears that the missing 11/16 would have solved the problem.
I purchased this set primarily to clean and dress up my threads. I have yet to use it to cut new threads. It appears to be a good set for hobbies and light use. The wrenches included in the set are adequate. In terms of quality, they appear to be in the middle of the pack.
A thread gauge, however, should be included. A fantastic range of sizes is available; The packaging is unusual in that it includes both standard and metric taps and dies. What is perplexing is the lack of a thread gauge. With 110 pieces in the box, the cost of a thread gauge couldn't possibly be the deciding factor.
In my opinion, this provided the best value for money. On the jobs I've used it for, everything has worked perfectly.
