A standard tap drill chart will specify a 37/64" drill.
I have no idea. I used it to rethread an already threaded barrel. It was very effective, and the threads were very clean.

It wasn't a fun experience because the coating was more difficult to convince a toddler that candy is unhealthy than it was to convince an adult. Little bits at a time, cutting fluid, a solid vice, and caution paid off in the end, and this die was victorious! The heat generated by the friction was sufficient to cause the T-shirt to melt. Handle is nearly impenetrable. br>I'd buy it again, and I'm glad to have it (along with the tap) in my toolbox.
This, along with a tread insert, repaired my crank set and saved me $120 in bike shop repairs!.
This was one of the cheapest 5/8x24 tap and die sets with a good rating, so I purchased it. I'm not going to drill or tape any raw materials. Only a few threads on a suppressor muzzle mount needed to be chased. I didn't even purchase a tap wrench handle; instead, I used an adjustable crescent wrench. The faucet functioned perfectly. I'm going to buy another 1/2x28 in case I need it.
It did a fantastic job of cleaning up some threads and opening up some others that were out of spec. I was able to create a nice, even, and clean thread pattern that performed as expected. Unfortunately, I don't know what kind of steel it was able to cut through to determine its hardness, but I believe it will suffice for most small jobs.
I haven't tried the die yet, but the tap broke a tooth on mild steel the first time I used it.
Cleaning an inside thread was a breeze with the tap. The die, on the other hand, would not thread on either the male dirty thread or a clean thread. So it's a great deal for the price of the tap. Not as much as you might think.
These appear to be well made, and I purchased them for a custom automotive project. Overall, they appear to be good.
Muzzle threads and muzzle devise threads can be cleaned with this tool. Outstanding worth.
