You can get a really tight fit with a 29/64 drill bit, but if your application doesn't require it, I'd recommend 15/32.
The OD of the die is 1. 37 in. (492 in.) I'm 90 in MM, and I'm hoping this helps.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say "matched set" - It's 1/2x28 thread on both of them. As a result, a die-threaded rod will thread into a tapped hold. They are compatible in this regard.

The tap appears to be in good condition; I haven't used it yet, but it appears to be functional, with sharp cutting edges and a clean overall appearance. The story of the die is entirely different. It's rusty to begin with (as evidenced by the photographs). Second, the cutting edges have not been honed; instead, they have been bored or drilled through, and the cutting edges still have bits of metal hanging off of them (refer to the photos) that will break off when run onto a part, similar to cutting threads with a baseball bat. Then there's the part where the die is beveled on both sides (who does that?). ), which means you won't be able to cut a blind shoulder by turning the die over. Returning it is simply not worth the time and effort.
This tap and die were required to repair a presser foot tensioner knob on a new commercial sewing machine that I had recently purchased. br>The factory assembled the parts incorrectly, causing the threads to be cross threaded, and I had to unscrew it very forcefully to remove it, it just wouldn't move, normally these should just unscrew by hand with no pressure, but this one only moved 1/4 turn either way, so I had to use channel locks to get it out, but once out, I used this tap and die to clean up both threads and it worked perfectly, now is it high quality? , maybe not so much, but it was enough for me to finish the job. The tap was much easier and faster to line up and start using than the die was, the price was outstanding, and for what I used it for was great it made my day and fixed my machine. I have some high end taps and dies so I'm used to those lining up very easily and quickly, but this one will do the job just fine if you take your time.
Exceptionally low costbr>- Tap cuts through butter like a hot knife. br>- At best, the die is decorative; it cleans threads but does not cut them.
Threads are precise in their cutting. I didn't think I'd need the tap, but it helped me fabricate another part, so I'm glad I got it as well. It did exactly what I needed it to do, and the end result was perfect.
Muzzle threads and muzzle devices are cleaned.
As expected, high-quality work is produced.
