Is the wood genuine?

It is, in fact, real wood, not low-cost particle board.

This is more of a child's dresser, as I've noticed. Would an adult be able to use it?

It could be used by an adult if necessary, but I believe the drawers are too small for an adult and that it is better suited for children. Mine is currently being used as a dresser for a child.

Is there a top for this that can be used as a baby changing table?

No, but there is a crib attachment for the matching crib that includes a baby change table and a slim three-drawer dresser.
