There was a time when my old stove leaked like a sieve and ate through It's great to have this Columbia II! A damper is located in the flue pipe. With one on the stove and one on the pipe, I can accurately control the burn rate and the output of the stove. Burn times of up to 8 hours are easy to achieve. The Canuck, to give it its nick name, is a monster for its size. I also think it looks very good. A couple of large skillets could fit on the top if you had to prepare food in a hurry.
I also bought the screen to go with it, which is an excellent purchase. In the winter months, we live in a small ranch style house (1,030 sq ft) on a lake, in the woods, at an elevation of 1720 feet, in the North East. It's cold and windy there. There is no need to worry about not being able to heat the house up well with this stove. The only negative was having to carry this beast up my driveway and walk into my home. Unfortunately, nothing is working now)!.
