It is a lot of work to get them ready but then all they do is pass water through and reduce one or two easy elements. In our tests, we used a tester and also three other filters, pitchers, and even refrigerator water, they all showed a major difference to The Water Filtration system performed the worst of those tested. While other brands, including Brita, showed better results than the tap, this device shows greater metal contents, meaning that the filter adds metals to the water that is being filtered. It will not be recommended in any way. It's insane that the ratio of price to effort, as well as water consumption, is so high. Getting a tester if your job involves filtering tap water is a great idea.
There have been a few instances when several filters released a black residue I am sure is not safe to drink. Before recently, we were not aware that this was the source of our drinking water. It is not true that they are effective. Filtering does not remove all iron and other things from water as it runs right through. As soon as it gets close to brown, the water turns brown. Real Brita filters maintain a constant level of filtration for at least a couple of months before the filtered water starts to show brown iron traces. Just as good as the name brand products. For the charcoal to be removed from the black dusk, it should be soaked and rinsed, unlike the name brand. As opposed to other reviews, I did not notice an excess of black powder, nor would this concern me since it is just charcoal dust and is My well water tastes terrible if it has iron or iron stains, but this works great to remove them.
A dark, blackish appearance of the water at the base of the pitcher after using this new filter was the first indication that there was a problem. The second problem was the taste of the water. A less expensive version of the original Brita filter that works well appears to be available here. It takes more effort to prepare them before use, but that is the only disadvantage.
