I'm not sure what Rich W did to make his work, but when my iPhone 11 Pro Max, which is running the latest iOS version, goes to sleep, it disconnects. I just bought mine a week ago (10/9/2020). I'll be returning it because this 'inconvenience' renders it completely useless for the purpose for which I purchased it (I do 16-hour brisket cooks and frequently require a middle-of-the-night alert to wrap). What good is it if it doesn't wake me up when it gets hot?
The probe is about 9" long and the cable is 42" long.

It's not waterproof, but it'll keep you dry in the rain.

The app will not work unless you have all of these things. This is extremely intrusive, as well as a security flaw. With each use, this app could send any data, location, or Personally Identifiable Information (PII) from the phone home. It may also gain access to your camera without your knowledge. I haven't dug deep enough to prove that anything is being stolen, but the app shouldn't require that level of access to function unless the company wants to mine your Personally Identifiable Information for data. I'd use the product if it were stripped of all the intrusive features.
I bought this because I didn't want to carry around a separate display and instead wanted to use my phone and the app, or so I thought, because bluetooth disconnects if the app isn't constantly active and the phone isn't in sleep mode. Why would you want to turn off the Bluetooth radio in the first place? Is there anything else I can do to make it more interesting? This is great for cooking something in 10 minutes, but not for smoking something for several hours! Again, the concept is fantastic, but the execution is abysmal. Add to that the range is nowhere near what it claims to be; I'm sure there's some small print somewhere that says direct line of sight at 25oC with no wind and no other antenna in 250 miles, but the reality is that we (most of us) live in multi-story properties (houses and or apartments) with multiple other bluetooth items. Stick with what you have until they fix the poor implementation and range issues. I'm canceling my gym membership because I get more than enough exercise walking back and forth to reactivate the bluetooth radio and thus visually check the temperature at the unit when doing a 10-hour smoke.

When you close the app, it disconnects you. I think you get the picture. br>The only way to reconnect is to turn on or off the probe unit. This product has the potential to be a five-star product because the quality is excellent, the thermometer is extremely accurate, and the app updates the temperature less than a second after the thermometer detects a change. Although it appears to be a great product, the thermometer will disconnect from your phone as soon as you lock your phone or switch to another app (even if the thermopro app is left running in the background), so you won't get any alerts or keep track of what you're cooking. If the app could stay connected to the thermometer and track the cook, it would be a five-star product; if not, I'll have to return it. I'm using an iPhone 11 by the way. I'm aware of problems with other phone brands. br>br>UPDATE. br>Works perfectly now that the app has been updated. This is unquestionably a 5-star product.
The thermometer and probes appear to be of good quality. The issue is the user interface on my smartphone. Following the instructions, I attempted to pair the thermometer with my phone (galaxy S9 note) several times but was unsuccessful. When I called customer service, the first representative said, "Oh god, a Samsung phone. " It sounded like they'd gotten a similar call the day before mine. Although she was unable to assist me, she stated that her supervisor would be able to assist me the following day via email. When the supervisor called me back about 30 minutes later, I was pleasantly surprised. He recommended that I turn on my phone's GPS as well as my Bluetooth. I was able to connect the thermometer to my phone by doing so. This, on the other hand, appears to be a pointless step. Prior to this, I don't recall ever having to turn on my GPS to pair with another device. I assumed this was a one-time step, but it was necessary to repeat it in order to reconnect to the phone after the thermometer was turned off. It also doesn't appear in the list of paired devices as a paired device. I believe that connectivity issues like this (presumably with android/samsung devices based on the initial tech's response) should have been addressed prior to the product's launch, but my experience, as well as that of others in the review section, leads me to believe that this was not the case. After all, wireless connectivity and convenience are the main attractions of this pricey item. Maybe a new version of the thermpro APP will smooth things out. As far as the hardware is concerned, it appears to be in good working order. Allow the app to run in the background, update the wacky alarm system, and improve bluetooth connectivity. I appreciated the prompt and courteous customer service, and I awarded them one of my five stars.
The unit is well-made and appears to be more attractive than my other ThermoPro cooking thermometers; however, the phone app software did not work, so I emailed for assistance. I returned the unit for a refund after receiving no response from ThermoPro. I noticed that there were no customer reviews on Amazon's website, implying that someone is withholding reviews until the app issue is resolved.
First, I was pleased with my Thermopro TP 20 and wanted to upgrade to get four probes instead of two, as well as additional cook information delivered via the app. The unit is well-made and equipped with numerous features. In addition, given what it's supposed to do, it's reasonably priced. It does, however, have one fatal flaw. The app keeps crashing on me. Because it relies on the app and bluetooth for communication and lacks a dedicated receiver, it is useless unless the app works properly. I took the plunge and spent the extra money on a Maverick XR 50, which includes the four probes I wanted, a dedicated receiver, and eliminates the need for erratic apps. The TP 25 is not something I would recommend.
