Questions & Answers

Are you in need of new components?

I'm looking for replacement parts for my can crusher, but I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Is it okay if I leave this outside in the rain?

Probably not; getting water in the valve or cylinder could cause them to rust and seize, or cause them to fail to seal properly.

Is it possible to mount this on the wall? I have a separate room dedicated to crushing cans, and I'd like to permanently mount it on the wall. ?

Yes, it's simple to mount it on the wall. We mounted it on the end of some garage cabinets and placed a trash can underneath it. It functions admirably.

Is this something that could be done with tin cans, such as canned goods?

A tin can (like a typical can of vegetables, peas, corn, beans, etc.) will be crushed to between 1" and 1" at 120 psi. 75". At 130 degrees, it consistently smashes tin cans to just over an inch.

The reason for the four-star rating rather than the five-star rating!   I knew I'd have to "improve" this product when I bought it, at least for the purposes I had in mind
4/5

I'd like to point out that this product was excellent right out of the box; everything was in working order, and it was simple to put together. I have a lot of spare parts, tools, and what the average joe would consider trash as a Heavy Equipment and Diesel Truck Technician, among many other trades. As a result, my garage now has a limited amount of space. Mounting the crusher horizontally (as others have done and as I assume it was intended to be done) did not appeal to me and seemed to take up far too much space. I chose to mount the crusher vertically, leaving approximately 6" of space behind the "ejection hole. " " This was done so that the can could be pushed through the hole and guided into my recycling bin. Now I just need to figure out how to get the can to eject on its own instead of having to keep pushing it with my finger after each cycle. I considered a variety of options; All in many different variations, manually or by the action of the cylinder, similar to a spring loaded pin (similar to a pinball machine). Then it dawned on me: all I had to do was use the air that the cylinder dumps on each upward stroke. I had plenty of hoses and fittings on hand, so it was simple enough. I removed the air valve's front muffler, tapped it to 1/8" NPT, and installed a flexible hose with a 90° fitting on the other end. After that, drill a hole in the front and center of where the can will be left after it has been crushed. To connect to the 90° fitting through the hole that had just been drilled, I used a 1/8" NPT nozzle from a water sprayer I had on hand. (Warning: this is a rough draft. ) When doing this, make sure to use a narrow-faced fitting; otherwise, the crushing plate on the cylinder's end will break the fitting off. The cans will not fit into the chamber as well. (You can see how narrow I am speaking in the video. ) Overall, the product has performed as expected and is simple to operate; however, I wish the manufacturer had provided this option.

I'm thinking about buying a few more to give as gifts

This is a powerful little beast, especially for the price, but it does not come assembled and requires a custom air inlet. It does require an air compressor, but I'm hoping that those who already have one can handle the 10-minute setup. To get air into the crusher, a 1/4" male/male fitting will suffice. It smashed 12oz and 16oz cans as well as 16oz aluminum Coors bottles with very little effort at 100psi. br>br>It crushes quickly and most of the cans I crushed had no issues. I'd recommend mounting horizontally to take advantage of the back cutout, which allows cans to fall out on their own. br>br>As a side note, this crusher is putting nearly 418lbs of crushing power onto those cans at 100psi, based on the size of the piston. I'm sure it can handle more air, but it's not necessary when the crushed cans are about 3/4" thick.

It's been crushed!   This crusher is fantastic; it only uses 80 psi and crushes everything in its path
5/5

My only gripe is that connecting the air hose was a little challenging; I'm not sure why, but I struggled. Because I only have a 2-gallon air compressor, after about 90 cans, it overheats. That is not the fault of the product; I simply require a larger version.

Excellent Product, Excellent Price, and Above and Beyond Expectations
5/5

I am very pleased with this product, which was the most affordable I could find. I bought it on the spur of the moment in the hopes that it would work and that I could improve it. The setup time was less than 5 minutes. (I did, in fact, require a 1/4" fitting to connect to my compressor. ) The cylinder and can holder appear to be well-built and long-lasting. Because the stroke on this smasher goes all the way to the bottom, the more pressure you apply, the more it smashes. The 200mm stroke corresponds to a stroke length of 7. It's 9" long, so it'll fit almost any can or bottle made of aluminum. It takes roughly 30 minutes to complete. To crush the can without denting it, apply pressure of 40 pounds per square inch. A can will keep its shape at a pressure of 25 psi. With a small dent at 30 psi, the can will hold, but a large dent will allow it to crush. When the can is crushed, it will be reduced to at least one pound. 5" I found it to be very effective between the ages of 60 and 80. Cans are crushed to less than an inch in diameter at 80 psi. The pressure should be set between 80 and 100 psi. It smashes consistently below 3/4" at 100. between 120 and 150 It's smashed down to about 1/2" at 130 psi. For all of you geeks out there. If my calculations are correct, the following pounds of force will be produced at the following pressures: 26 lbs at 20 psi, 122 lbs at 40 psi, 219 lbs at 60 psi, 315 lbs at 80 psi, 412 lbs at 100 psi, 509 lbs at 120 psi, and 654 lbs at 150 psi I was able to smash about one per second (easily 40 per minute) with the pressure set high and without the exhause vents once I got into a rhythm. Only the occasional one that sticks because you were going too fast slows you down; I smashed three giant bags of cans in no time and was suddenly disappointed there were no more cans to smash.

It's a good tool, but it could be better with a few tweaks
4/5

It needs to be put together, which is not a problem for me because I am handy, but the instructions need to be updated, for example: The best lengths to cut the single-piece quick-connect hose should be specified in the instructions. I guessed wrong and cut the short piece about 1/8 inch too short, causing it to kink. I had to buy a coiled loop of hose to fix it, which increased the cost. The correct size quick disconnect hose for the supply line, which is different from the ram supply lines, as well as an additional quick disconnect end with threads to mate to a female connector so it can be easily attached to a coupler, must also be sent with the unit. To replace the quick coupler, I had to buy a brass pipe and thread it with a female connector, which added to the cost, and then I had to attach brackets so the can could be mounted sideways so it wouldn't crush and fall into a box or bag. As it is, it is nearly complete. However, it's a fantastic solution! It simply creates a slew of problems for a novice to solve, and for a handyperson, it adds cost and is inconvenient that it was not thought through fully.
