Derek Dean and LA Demo are basically correct in their responses, but they were not particularly helpful to me. AZamora and Katie Mathers have no idea what's going on. I have arthritis and am 80 years old. I needed to think outside the box, so I went shopping for a small pair of needle-nose pliers. When fully opened, the pliers' tips could go through two holes in the center "star" pattern (white plastic inside the lid). This gave me enough "good grips" on the white plastic to allow me to turn it in relation to the stainless portion. You must align the tiny black circle on the stainless steel with the tiny black circle on the stainless steel. The white plastic rim has a steel rim with a tiny triangle on it. This alignment is also necessary for the re-establishment of the re-establishment of the re-est putting together the TWO- PART lid. This is the fourth one I bought. I actually thought I was going to break the cap and lose one shaker while attempting this "separation." My perceived strength (muscle memory, perhaps?) is already quite high. ) far outweighs my current physical capabilities. When I was younger, I would have expected the white plastic to explode into a thousand pieces if I used the same "attempted" force on it. So, if you're weak in the muscles, just push harder. Don't be stingy with your words. You're weaker than the white plastic, lol.

It is possible to close the holes' openings. When you twist the top, the holes are no longer visible, so I'm not sure how 'air tight' it is. I keep mine in the fridge and use it to grate cheese.
I put crushed red pepper in it and it works fine; oregano would work as well. Shake vigorously, but there's no reason any can't fit out.

The bottle and its construction are both sturdy and of reasonable quality. For that, I'll award it two stars. br>br>However, Red Pepper Flakes will not fit through the holes. To make it worthwhile, you'd have to pulverize the red pepper flakes first, which reduces the spice's shelf life; if you put them in whole, you'll get small broken off flakes, but the larger flakes and seeds will stay inside. br>br>It's a huge letdown. The product is marketed as being ideal for Red Pepper Flakes, but this is not the case. I didn't want to use a "Pizzeria" bottle and thought this one would be better for my kitchen. However, if it does not properly shake out the product, it is a useless tool.
OXO products have become a firm favorite of mine. They just appear to be well-designed and constructed items that make life a little easier, and the OXO Good Grips All-In-One is no exception. This is not the case with the Purpose Adjustable Shaker. br>br>It's the perfect size and weight, with all of the features you'd expect from a product of this nature; the top is simple but effective, with three options, two different size holes, and a completely closed position. It's not too difficult to turn, but it does so perfectly and with just the right amount of tension. br>br>A high-quality product that is simple to use and built to last. Highly recommended.
JARS OF OXO SPICES For the past 25 years, I've been an OXO girl. The large spice jars with multiple sizes of holes for dispensing various spices are fantastic. I also appreciate the fact that the top closes to keep the contents fresh. I bought one jar to see how big the holes in the crushed red pepper, nutritional yeast flakes, and minced garlic would be. scallions It worked for everyone, so I went back to it. To finish the spice jar organization, I ordered a few more.
TIP. HEAT THE BOTTOM OF THE JAR WITH A BLOW DRYER TO REMOVE THE STICKER. THE STICKER WILL EASILY COME OFF WITHOUT LEAVING ANY RESIDUE.
I use it as a salt shaker and adore it for the following reasons:
- the form and simplicity of the design,br>- capacity: a cupbr>- a cupbr>- a cupbr>- tsp and even tbsp are easily accommodated by the wide mouthbr>- I know I can turn it off with a twist - There's no need to search for a capbr>- The larger holes are ideal for coarse salt, which I prefer to use. br>- Along with my pepper grinder, it makes a nice set.
I really like this unit because it's well-made and reasonably priced. br>br>The only downside for me is that the holes are a little too small for red pepper flakes, and getting them out takes a little extra shaking. Otherwise, it's perfect, and I like how the lid twists shut when you're taking it on a picnic or a road trip!.
Alright. This is a nice little spice shaker that will do the job for most spices. "Most" was the key word there. I have to agree with others that most "red pepper flakes" on the market will not fit in this shaker. I added some Flat Iron Pepper Co. peppers to the mix. (way better than any red pepper flakes you can buy at the grocery store BTW) and I'd say approximately 65% of my test sample came through the holes. The other 35 was too large to pass through the hole. br>br>As with most OXO products, the shaker looks great and is extremely functional. If you're changing seasonings, herbs, or spices, the lid separates into two pieces for easy cleaning. br>br>I'm not sure if I'll be able to use this for the purpose for which I purchased it. It was for a brisket rub that I was looking for. It'll probably be fine if I just salt and pepper it, but I'm thinking about using some of that Flat Iron Pepper Co. as previously mentioned, to add a little extra heat to the rub on occasion. The problem is that the pepper flakes won't all come out, and I won't be using much of it anyway because "those peppers are HOT!" " But I'll put it to good use. " I try to make my own seasonings every now and then, but I never have a shaker for them, so they end up in a Tupper container that I forget about. Perhaps this will no longer be the case.
I adore this Oxo shaker because, as expected, it is of the highest quality. As you can see in my photo, it's a nice size, made of thick glass, and has a two-piece top made of heavy duty plastic and stainless steel, which I expect to last a long time. Fill your shaker jar with whatever you want, tighten the lid, and you're ready to go. Simply grasp the bottom plastic portion of the top and twist the stainless portion to the desired hole size or closed mode (which is all the way clockwise) to use it. Simply twist the stainless portion all the way counter clockwise to remove the stainless top from the plastic base for cleaning. Easy! Unlike solid stainless steel shakers, there is no awkward handle to deal with, and there are no rust issues. This one's for the bookshelf. This is a fantastic product that I wholeheartedly recommend!.
The product is made of glass and comes packaged in a plastic bag. The first one arrived shattered into a million pieces. I had it replaced, but the replacement arrived shattered. I'm currently pursuing a refund for jar 2 that was broken.
