I've only hand-washed mine, and it still looks brand new. The listing stated that the item should be washed by hand. There is some nickel in it, as well as stainless steel. It's possible that the dishwasher or detergent turned it black. Isn't it, however, still fantastic? I no longer peel the garlic cloves first. Love it!
It appears to be entirely made of stainless steel to me. I've never owned a better garlic press.
The inner tray is the only part of the set that isn't available separately. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

Although the press I received looks similar to the one in the photo, it is not the same. Very let down. I'm replacing an older version with this one, which has an insert. It also isn't as durable as my original. I planned on returning it, but a friend needed a press, so I gave it to her.
I never expected to write a review for a garlic press. I, on the other hand, cook from scratch almost every day and frequently use garlic. I've had a few different garlic presses over the years. This publication outperforms them all! It presses even the largest garlic cloves into a fine texture, ensuring that the garlic is evenly distributed throughout your dish. I was worried about removing the cup for cleaning, but it turned out to be a great feature of the design. This garlic press comes highly recommended from me! It has a good chance of succeeding.
I saw this mentioned in an Amazon review as a possible replacement for a bad garlic press and decided to give it a shot. It's quite good, actually. br>I haven't thrown away my old one yet because the basket was missing when I went to use the Ikea one. So, if you can keep track of the hopper basket, it's a fantastic garlic press that's a bargain at around $8.
I bought one from IKEA about ten years ago and continue to use it at home every day. I've been cooking a lot at a friend's house recently, and I'm not a fan of her garlic press. I've been cooking for my family for a long time. I've had bad experiences with garlic presses in the past, so it was difficult for me to accept them this time. I bought this garlic press after doing some research and have used it numerous times in the short time I've had it. It's a much more practical kitchen appliance to use because of the removable 'cup' into which the garlic clove is crushed. After crushing the garlic, I 'pare' the crushed garlic from the bottom of the 'cup' with a small sharp knife. The cup then easily slides out of the appliance, requiring only a little 'fuss' to clean the small holes on both the inside and outside of the cup, but I imagine most other garlic presses are far more difficult to clean.
With frequent use, my original IKEA garlic press lasted a long time. The bottom of the press eventually broke after a long period of use. I guess the metal didn't work out. When I needed a replacement, I didn't like the look of any of the common garlic presses on the market. I remembered that my previous one was an IKEA product, so I went to their website to see what they had now. They've tweaked the design a little, possibly in response to the fact that my metal failure was not an isolated occurrence. Instead of being a one-piece design, the new design includes a removable stainless steel liner with a perforated bottom. It's actually a lot easier to clean now, and it should last a lot longer than the previous one.
