My husband would always put my meat tenderizers in the dishwasher. They'd all turn, leaving a film on the metal that you'd have to remove - as well as the meat I tossed two of them out the window. Despite my best efforts to keep this one out of the dishwasher, it was eventually washed by my spouse. I was pleasantly surprised when it continued to function without causing any damage to the metal. And, of course, it thumps a lot.
I went out of my way to find one that could be washed in the dishwasher. I've had it for about a month and have washed it at least once a week, if not three times in the first week, owing to my enthusiasm for my new purchase. Beating something with a mallet has a mildly therapeutic quality to it. br>br>The product has a good weight to it; it's not too light, but it's heavy enough that I don't have to exert myself to use it, and it helps to tenderize the meat under its own weight, which is a huge plus if you don't have a lot of arm strength.
It's a meat hammer, to be precise. When I placed my old meat tenderizer in the dishwasher, it began to chip and peel. When it came time to replace it, my goal was to find one that didn't require me to avoid using the dishwasher, which is how I came across this one. I don t know how much you can say about a tool for flattening meat (which it certainly does fine) other than that it feels comfortable in my hand. But the most important It's been through a lot in the few months I've had it, but it still looks brand new.
I've only used it to pound/flatten chicken so far, but it's been a success. It has a nice weight to it and a nice grip. It appears to be a solid material rather than something with a metal coating, and it is of good quality. It says dishwasher safe, but I've only done hand washing so I can't comment on how well it holds up in the dishwasher. When I flatten meat, I always place it in a plastic bag or plastic wrap, so hand washing is sufficient.
One side is flat, while the other is raised with a diamond-shaped pattern. I've used both sides of the paper. It's great for tenderizing meats. I've only used it to make cutlets out of chicken, but it's fantastic. Without tearing the meat, I was able to make the chicken paper thin. I would strongly suggest it.
SAFE FOR THE DISHWASHER! It's one of the few dishwasher-safe meat tenderizers on the market at a reasonable price point. It's not particularly heavy, which could be a plus or a disadvantage, but it gets the job done and the handle is pleasant to hold. Despite the fact that our previous tenderizer was not dishwasher safe, we put it in to kill bacteria. Even though we had a clean tenderizer, it was completely spotted and looked awful. This one functions well, looks great when new, and maintains its new appearance after each dishwasher cycle.
