Does what needs to be done. Typically, I use it to separate my cast iron while in storage, but I have been able to place my 6qt dutch oven on it just fine as well. Easily cleans with hot water, just rinse with a bit of water and all the dirt and splatters are removed. Despite not having been gentle with it, it looks just as good after a few months of fairly hard use.

You can use it around the kitchen. It's attractive, functional, and it protects surfaces well. This tool makes life a little bit easier in my busy kitchen with lots of pots on the stove. For the first time I have tried a trivet of this type, it is really nice. The past few times I've used a potholder to place hot items on top, but if there's something on the bottom of the pan, I found the potholder to stain. It can also be burned if it gets too close to a stove (or is extremely hot). It works up to 500 degrees and keeps your pot or pan in place.
