I was going to have a heart attack and she was going to slice into her hand. Though I had high hopes, there were some concerns as to how well the Hoan Bagel Guillotine would work, regardless of the overwhelmingly positive reviews. There was no basis for my concerns. I do not agree with this Every single bagel is cut to pieces by a little device, every single time. It happens that my kid will eat two or three or more a day for a while. Despite the fact that the blade on this thing is very sharp (covered), I do not have to worry about serious cuts anymore. The only thing I would advise is to slice (press down) slowly so as not to squash the Further, one of the things that I love about this thing is how it slices so cleanly - there is no flour crumbs whatsoever The purchase has been quite satisfactory for me. The bagelicious device now sits permanently next to the toaster on our counter, at least until she tires of them. My recommendation is to try it.
It's been five years since I ordered this. In my experience, it has been quite effective as a method of slicing Hand-washing has been the primary method of cleaning this item, but it has occasionally been put in the dishwasher (it says it is It occurred to me today that the slipping joint between the two arms is deteriorating the plastic on the body. The plastic powder left behind after each use has a fine white appearance. Bagel dust is likely to get on the white plastic This is disgusting. I'm throwing this one out there The plastic dust I eat with my bagels probably hasn't been there for a long time.
The item is not what you are looking for. A plain bagele from Winco Foods was all we got, The bagel appears to be bigger than the slot if you look at pictures. From the top of the holder down, you can see that the center of the base of the slicer is narrower than the rest. I don't understand why it is By pushing down the blade, you cause the bagel to rip. This causes the bagel to get wedged inside of In turn, one side of the bagel remains inside the blade compartment when it is lifted. You now have to insert your fingers inside to get out that piece of bagel The warning sign blade is sharp, no matter what the sign says. You can see from the picture that the top of the bagel has been torn off. The blade on this replacement had a huge notch in it, with the first having a similarly large notch. Because we didn't use it, we don't know whether the center of the holder was narrower than others. In view of this being our second attempt, we are not moving forward with a third attempt. This product is poorly controlled in terms of quality. My intention was to make the kids' bagels safe when cutting them, not to hurt themselves! Do not buy this product. It is safer than a real knife in fact. We are returning this one as well after having received our first one.
In addition to not cutting the bagels, it also did not heat A similar one I purchased many years ago has lasted over 3 years since we used it daily for several hours in I bought the same one as you and it is awful. However, the blade was so dull that it smashed, mangled and smushed the bagels even after it was cut. It was thrown away, and now we have to use a bread knife instead. We're seeing more and more products made cheaply these days. Shame on you.
I did not get good results with the five bagels I used it on, but it did not slice them as I had hoped. There might be a problem with the blade, as it's too dull to cut through As the blade is protected by the plastic safety guard that is riveted to the push down handle, there is no way to sharpen the cutting edges. This was my first time using this product and these bagels were very fresh and soft. Perhaps it works better on old, harder bagels (more stale) since my bagels had to be squeezed into the slicer.
This unit is a good bagel slicer, but there can be times when a bagel pushes the blade off center and it will not work. As a result, you get an unevenly sliced bagel the bigger issue is that the blade will slice into the plastic notch at the bottom of the unit when this happens. In other words, as the bagel ages, you end up with plastic shavings in it. Manufacturers need to install sliding steel blade guides at the bottom of the unit in order to rectify this issue. As well as extending the life of the slicer, this would also reduce maintenance costs. All things considered, it does an adequate job of slicing bagels as long as you keep an eye out for.
It has been a total disaster since then. Once the blade has squashed the bagel nearly a quarter of its height, it does not slice it any more. There have been different slicing techniques I tried, the blade needs to be cleaned, etc. This is not solving I have to slice bagels with a knife again. That works just fine.
The other thing I was DEBUTTED about was the vendor's lack of interest in my experience with the product. They haven't even replied to my email. Based on what I've read, I have a feeling As if it were a serious illness, I advise you to avoid this product. The savings so far are that you won't lose money and bagels, and you'll avoid the aggravation associated with eating bagels that are destroyed. I have updated The other day, I tried it out for the first time. My first cut was with a knife, and I continued it for about one minute By completing it with the slicer, it was cut to half an inch. The bagel seems to stay intact without getting squashed for whatever reason. While it is a nuisance, I am not indifferent to going the extra mile to make it happen. As a slicer used in this manner, it actually performs quite well.
The only way to make sure you're not putting it in the holder wonky sometimes is to make sure it's in there nicely. You can cut like a breeze with it. It is also easy to clean. In less than 30 minutes I ate both Costco raisin cinnamon and plain bagels without stopping and eating a third. It took me until the very end to clean. It is a great little unit and is very well made. I can think of only one con, which is that you cannot pick it up by the handle because the bottom falls off when you pick it up. I admit that I did this twice after getting the device, but it's trained me & designed a system that will work now There's no way I'll fall for that trick anymore! This is a highly recommended book!.
