That's not what I expected at all. They are made of plastic which is thin and flimsy. The sides are shallow, which is not what I expected. It should be more sturdy like melamine. It's better to use a bowl with a bit of depth so that flour, etc. does not spill all over your worksurface. In the event that more than one piece is in use, nesting is impractical. In the side of the small bowl are measurements embedded (embossed), which I cannot read, no matter how much I try. I have not even used the plastic in these bowls yet, yet they have scuffs and scrapes. Having this in my wish list has been in progress for more than It has been a while since I bought a set of Martha Stewart melamine mixing bowls, so I was unsure that purchasing another would justify the purchase. Nonetheless, this set comes with a colander as well as a sieve, which has been useful in straining homemade limeade today. A lovely set that is as practical as it is pretty and all nestles neatly inside of itself to save a lot of space. I'm only sorry that I took so long to make this call!.
