Questions & Answers
You've asked an interesting question. After a lot of hassles, I'll give you the real scoop. I placed an order for two sets of four. One set was blue, and the other was clear. I was perplexed as to what was going on, and the subtly different red labels revealed the truth. The "custard" bowls are bluish, while the "prep" bowls are clear. I returned one prep set and was given another one. I was drawn to the bluish because it appeared to be so appealing. So I placed an order for a set of eight in the hopes of getting the correct item. Nope, two four-packs of prep taped together, plus "prep" bowls once more. Now all I have to do is go to a store and look for more of the bluish ones, which appear to be readily available (hopefully with a label that says "custard"). Only "custard" is listed on the pyrex website, so I'm not sure if the prep is older or something.
There are no lids on these.
They aren't like that. Red plastic lids are used on a larger product. I've got those as well (they're about 6" across). These are between 2 and 3 inches in diameter. I sometimes use a saucer to cover them when I need a lid.
Custard bowls have a 4 inch top and a 2 1/4 inch bottom. Because the glass is quite thick, the actual inside diameter should be increased by about a quarter inch.

I ordered these to replace some similar bowls that I had been using for a long time. They were able to walk around the house and hide until there was only one bowl left. They pulled off a brilliant ruse because no one in the house seemed to know what had happened. These are exactly what I was looking for, and they're the same brand, so hopefully they'll last as long as their predecessors did. I love how easy it is to serve certain foods in small dishes so that each person has their own. And, of course, I use them all the time to hold ingredients for recipes while I'm cooking or baking. I'm overjoyed to have reclaimed my supply. The household has been informed that these individuals will not be walking anywhere.
I had an old set of Pyrex 6oz bowls that had been passed down through my family for over 60 years. Over the years, the bowls have been used to serve a variety of desserts. I was down to the final two when one of them (sadly) broke, so I decided to retire the other before it broke as well. I needed exact replacements, so I reasoned that investing in genuine Pyrex would be worthwhile. The new bowels are much thicker and less elegant than the old bowls, and they are made in a very crude manner (most likely in China). I am dissatisfied, to say the least. They're thick and heavy, but they should last a long time. However, given their weight, I'm sure they'll break on the first drop. "They aren't made like they used to be" - That is undeniably true.
Before cracking/scratching, it only made it through one dishwasher cycle on the top rack. The new one had already been scratched when it arrived! For the love of God, this is supposed to be Pyrex. I suppose their new formula does represent a significant drop in quality. My mother has had these for as long as I can remember, and after all these years, it only has a minor chip in it. I really like the size, shape, and versatility of these, and I'm glad they're still available. They simply aren't made as well as they once were. It was a huge let down.
My mother has a couple sets of 6oz and 10oz Pyrex custard bowls that she has had for decades, but several of them have been broken in recent years, so I decided to get her a couple new sets as a gift. I started looking for them in April and couldn't find any in stores, so I went to the Pyrex website to see if they were still available, which they were, but only through their website, and shipping was more than double the price per set. Finally, around Christmas time, I discovered them on Amazon Prime for a higher price but with faster shipping, so I purchased two sets of each. br>br>The new bowls are nearly twice as thick as the old ones, and they're a lot more durable, which is a good thing. They're not only great for baking, but they're also delicious as a snack, dip, or dessert. Ice cream bowls that can be used on a regular basis.
The ounce dishes were in perfect condition when they arrived. For many years, my mother had the "original" version of these Pyrex dishes, and whenever I visited her, I always found new ways to use them. Unfortunately, a few of them had broken over time, so I bought these to replace the two she still had. Thank you to the Amazon reviewers who stated that they are slightly heavier and larger than the originals; you are absolutely correct! They're the same great quality as the old ones, and they say "Made in the USA" on the bottom. My mother uses them to store uncut vegetables that she doesn't want to refrigerate, as well as other food items. They're extremely durable and a good size for a variety of uses around the house! It comes highly recommended!.
These are essential if you have older children (so you don't have to worry about glass products). They're ideal for portioning out just about anything - Cereal, fruit, soup, and ice cream are some of my favorite foods. These aren't as big as regular cereal or soup bowls, but who eats 16 ounces of soup or pudding anyway? This 10-ounce bowl can serve up to six people. 8 ounces of product that can be microwaved and cleaned up quickly - even melted cheese (which is difficult to clean in ceramic bowls but much easier in glass bowls). They aren't flashy, but they are extremely durable and functional. They appear to be very appealing.
Chicken pot pies can be made ahead of time and frozen, then reheated during the week. Fruit pies can also be made in individual portions. I even use them to bake uniform large hamburger buns. Serve with ice cream or salsa. I'm sure I could continue.
They're a favorite of ours! They're the ideal size for a wide range of applications. They are simple to clean, stack neatly in each other to save cabinet space, and are fairly durable given that they are made of glass. If not handled carefully, they can chip on the edges, but they are generally durable. They're ideal for serving dips, salsa, small dessert cups, and other portion-controlled foods. I've even used it to reheat single servings of cheese dip or melt chocolate in my air fryer. I own a number of sets and have purchased them as wedding gifts. These bowls are fantastic!.
