It reminds me of the parrillas and asados in Uruguay.
On a Memorial Day get-together with friends, melt some provolone cheese and oregano. It is extremely popular among them.
Provoleta (melted Provolone cheese) in a "provoletera" (special dish for melting this cheese) was served to me at a friend's house in Buenos Aires. I couldn't take it anymore. I've had "queso fundido" (melted cheese) served in a variety of ways all over Latin America, but this was the first time I'd seen a serving dish named after a particular melted cheese dish. Before purchasing this Proviletera in blue ceramic, I used my snail servers (which were too small with only 5 indentations). You can play around with different herbs and cheeses (colby-jack, for example), according to another reviewer. Cheddar is a good choice). br>I've cooked it in the oven and microwaved it (thanks to my Argentine hostess for the tip). ,br>Both had positive outcomes. br>Because my family loves cheese, this has been put to good use.
This was the only thing I could find that was specifically made for this after looking around. There are some smaller versions made for escargots that might work, but this seemed to be the safer option. This one is perfect; there was some experimenting with different cheeses (aged smoked gouda turned into exploding cheese bombs in the oven), but it was a delicious experience overall. You can't go wrong with provolone cheese. To flavor the cheese, experiment with various spices. To remove the cheese, use toothpicks or other skewers. Enjoy!.
On a recent trip to Argentina, I attempted to melt provolone but was unable to locate a melting plate. When I got home, I went to Amazon and found it. Simple but out of the ordinary.
