Despite its age, this clock still looks great
5/5

In addition, The fact that I don't have to worry about setting it up or checking it is great. Without glasses, I can see it across the room, and my iPhone changes the time in real time. It is possible to hear the large second hand ticking and the minute hand moving every fifteen seconds if you are sensitive to clock sounds. In a quiet room, the recording is fairly quite. However, I included a video to show that in action.

My favorite part about the clock is the hands
5/5

The clock is my favorite part of the room, but my wife resents the aesthetics. Rather than follow the form, I follow the function. To my mind, the primary function of a clock is to display accurate time, which the La Crosse 400-series clock does so without fail The clock of the 1235UA does this. It is one of the things I like about this clock that it boasts a robust electro-mechanical mechanism Drive mechanism that uses mechanical power. A single AA battery may not be sufficient to power most large analog clocks. When the battery voltage drops even a little from a new voltage near 1, the clock will loose time. Unloaded open circuit is greater than 5V, whereas loaded open circuit An analog clock, however, would require more than 4s, which is adequate for a flashlight, but not enough power to run a large dial one. As a result of using two larger capacity C size batteries in series, the battery 5x2 = 3 volts), and you can add another pair in parallel for more amp hours (a bigger tank with I found the setup to be easy. On the coast of the Pacific Time Zone, at the foot of a mountain range that impedes our line to the Colorado transmitting station, I live at the base of a mountain range. It was not necessary to change any of the time zone settings since the clock's default is Pacific time. Hang the clock on a wall below a door, away from windows, and put in new batteries. As soon as the battery connection was made, the clock mechanism started to tick around The clock cranked back to the correct time within a second of another La Crosse RCC (radio controlled clock) I have close by, about 5 minutes later (after hanging the clock on the wall). (I read all six of the earlier reviews before purchasing the book) I have a couple of comments on some of the earlier reviews. Other reviews have been critical of some clock features, such as the battery compartment or gap between the standoff for the wall. I did not have those issues with my clock purchased from Amazon in October 2016. I like how the batteries fit snugly into the clock and how flush the clock sits La Crosse might have changed its design recently? There is quite a bit of audible "ticking" in our dining room, so I would not recommend having it in your bedroom. However, the ticking is not loud and is not an issue for us. As a former RCC user, I've had a number of them in the past. However, the newer models seem to be more reliable than the older ones. There is an advantage to LCD models in that they do not require an external power supply This clock must replace an analog clock situated in an area that is visible, but it has a mechanical drive mechanism. In my research, I discovered a new Phase Shift Modulation (NIST The first phase Transcript Shift + ) technology in 2012, which NIST began to transmit. According to my understanding, PM (or PSK) is somewhat similar to RS Comparison of the 485 and the An inversion of phase results in a "differential" signal that is more robust than In many binary radio standards such as Bluetooth and Wireless LAN, PSK is used. It sounds good however, I found this to be the only PM clock available for sale after a thorough internet search. In any case, the 404-series can be quite helpful My 1235UA clock is very well built and I am very happy with it.

Update, August 2018, about two years after I purchased it in June 2016 I don't know how to fix my La Crosse 404 error There have been no issues with the performance of the 1235UA clock(s). The battery voltage intrigued me, so I checked it. In spite of 22 months of operation, each of the four Rayovac C cell batteries is setting a reading of There are 40 volts present. Another clock that I purchased about a year ago is now measuring one inch in diameter after requiring two Duracell Procell batteries after running for 13 months. There are 48 volts in it. As the reason for updating my comments is because one of my small analog clocks no longer works efficiently (this clock is not one of those reviewed here), and since the La Crosse 404-6654 came on line yesterday, I changed my mind and purchased it. (I now own 2 of them). My 1235UA clocks have consistently been the best clocks I've ever owned I wanted it to be smaller, but similar. Initially, I thought the newer, more robust phase shift modulation signal (PM, or BPSK) would dominate the market in the next couple of years, replacing the more legacy pulse width modulation (PWM, based on an amplitude modulation signal (AM)). As of now, the 1235UA clock is the only product I can find (for consumer retail pricing) that advertises use of As of 2012, the newer PM/BPSK format began to be broadcast. Besides my 404-series La Crosse, I own a 2004 gt X, a 2003 gt X, and a 2002 xt X In addition to the 1235UA clocks, I osse digital clock that has been running without a hitch for about 5 years, and I believe it uses an older PWM / AM signaling system. According to what I read, the new PM / PBSK transmitting protocol is considerably more robust than the old PWM / AM signaling. The mechanical drive mechanism of the La Crosse 404-4828 also provides a bit more stability. There is no doubt that the 1235UA is more powerful than the During October 2016, I paid $61 in taxes. A total of 76 plus sales tax for my first order of The 1235UA code. A payment of $57 was made to me in July 2017. The price on Amazon was $97 plus tax last Monday, but today (8/20/2018) it is You can get it for just $89, which seems like a great deal. Since a digital clock does not have to physically drive a mechanical mechanism, they may be able to operate on less power, but I still hope to find a round analog clock as robust as the La Crosse 404-09 It is similar to the 1235UA, but much smaller.

I was surprised by how well it turned out
5/5

It has so far been a good experience. Last night I received the clock. I loaded four C-type batteries in it A battery. I wound it to 4pm immediately after I put in the first two batteries They stayed there for about 30 minutes before going away. When the sync finally happened, I gave up waiting and set it aside. It took a while for it to sync up, but I have no idea how long it took. I was sure it was inside an hour. I find that it ticks louder at intervals of 15, 30 and 45 seconds- When the minute hand moves a little, that is when the minute hand moves. It doesn't bother me at all when the ticking is placed against a wall. The noise generator will not work well in a bedroom, but I think it will be fine in an office space, where there already is some white noise. Having said that, there are clips at the back that can be popped out if you want to remove the bezel and glass front for whatever reasons you may have. You can simply set your timezone by following these steps The time zone will not matter with this one I find that timezones are not confined to the US only (as most other sites I found do). - I consider this to be very important In order to set up a line in our office, I have ordered more There are various times displayed based on the timezones we operate in in the US and internationally. There is no need to remove the bezel or glass front to apply city labels on the face. I am encouraged by the ease with which I can do this. [Update] I have now put 5 of these on our wall, and I have decided to order nameplates/plates for I really like how they turned out! Ticking is not audible as we have them now As an added bonus, using them all in a row would be awesome! Each clock is precisely synchronized with its second hand!.

There is no alignment between the minute and second hands! Sorry, but I'm so disappointed in you
3/5

The clock I just got from Amazon had already reset itself to 4 o'clock before I put the batteries in, so I put the batteries in and waited It immediately caught my attention that the second and minute hands are not in alignment! Two fingers are bent completely on the second hand. Here is a photo of the attached file. Despite our best efforts, this will not be fixed. The fact that I'm bothered by this bothers me even though I'm not even the slightest bit OCD. A wall clock I bought recently is very poor in quality, and I paid a lot for it. However, the clock is made of cheap Chinese materials, so it looks great, but it's not of great quality. The metal edge on the front of the box had some heavy smudges, and my wife said that it looked like someone had pulled off the two pieces of tape at the bottom. There is a good chance that I received an item that another buyer had returned. I find that outrageous! It is extremely disappointing to learn that La Crosse was unable to satisfy my expectations! Buying should be done with caution!.

I didn't understand how to install the batteries
3/5

Neither Amazon technical support nor I were able to resolve this problem. While I was an optical systems engineer for 50 years, it was lacking some vital information about opening the battery compartment in the Product manual. As soon as you see it, the compartment is obvious, but it is covered with a sticker that obscures its use. The first page of the manual has been revised. Let me give you a one-shot The star is there to show that if you annoy your customers with a bad manual, then you won't get good reviews.
