The material is very firm but pliable well for my lower back or when I'm lying down and need pressure under my neck. It has lasted a few years for me and it's never stretched out yet. I've got another one made by a different company that lasted a few years and it's now stretched out all the way. However, it is a small item, so make sure you factor that in when ordering.
