My wife bought it because I was bringing the Dohm Classic white noise machine into my office to use when it wasn't being used for our baby. My house is made of hardwoods, so noise is easily transmitted, but the Dohm Classic drowns it out with a soothing roar. When I read the reviews about the UNO's rattling and high-pitched whine, I was concerned that I wouldn't like this less expensive model nearly as much. However, the complaints appear to be exaggerated, at least in my opinion. Sure, it's not quite as loud as the Classic on high, but we're not talking about a huge difference in volume here. It still produces relaxing analog white noise, and it's loud enough to drown out the sounds of creaking floorboards and passing cars, which can easily throw my ADHD brain off track. None of Marpac's models can match the volume of the most powerful electronic white noise machines, so if you need to block out the sounds of a busy city street, an analog machine will likely fall short. br>br>To be fair, if I concentrate solely on the noise, I do hear two distinct sounds. One is a low-cost alternative. One is a louder, higher-pitched forced air roar, while the other is quieter and higher-pitched forced air roar. I assume it's the fan motor because there's a high-pitched whirr. The thing is, I don't sit there and savor the sound of the Dohm UNO like a fine wine; real analog white noise, whether it's the Classic or the UNO, is something you don't even notice after a few minutes (unlike digital samples, which quickly become irritating once you recognize the loop pattern). I suppose some people prefer to concentrate on the sound, and if that's the case, the Dohm Classic has a slightly quieter motor, which you can hear if you listen closely. If the quiet whirr becomes an issue, I'll most likely open it up and spray it with silicone. br>br>The only reason I wouldn't recommend this model is if you want to fine-tune the tone of your white noise; the Classic has two ways to change the tone, whereas the UNO combines them into a single rotating piece that controls both tone and volume. Personally, I always leave my Classic set all the way open and never change it, as I'm sure most people do, but if you need not one but TWO ways to change the tone, the Classic is the way to go. Another advantage of the UNO is that its design is superior to that of the Classic. It looks and feels more modern, and it resembles their perplexingly named Dohm model, which is not the same as the Dohm Classic (they're nearly identical, but the Dohm has a newer design). br>br>The best white noise machines are made by Marpac, and choosing one shouldn't be difficult. It doesn't help that since buying Yogasleep, they've started using the Yogasleep name on their products. Please don't be perplexed. All of Dohm's machines are still manufactured by Marpac. They've given us a plethora of options, but the analog machines are all so similar that all you have to do now is pick which "trim" level you want. Personally, I think saving $10-$20 is a good idea. For $15, you can get the UNO while relaxing in a less distracting environment.

It's not quite up to par with the classic. On high, the Uno's sound isn't as loud as a classic dohm's low setting. Will not be able to help my children sleep because it will not block enough noise. The extra money is well spent on the classic!.

Jane's loud ass mouth smacking and sneezing right across from my cubicle (she sneezes like she's calling out for help and smacks her mouth like a cow chewing cud or a baby goat eating its first meal) drove me to buy this for my office cubicle to drown out the noise. It had no effect on the noise, but it did contribute a loud vent-like sound. Choose the more costly option. We already have a more expensive marpac white noise machine for our daughter's nursery, but she occasionally sleeps in our room, and we were getting tired of moving her sound machine back and forth between two rooms, so I decided to get the less expensive version of the machine, which worked fine for the first three months before beginning to rattle. This is a huge annoyance! I'd suggest just buying the more expensive marpac sound machine, which has more "sounds," more volume adjustments, and has never rattled in a year's worth of use. thanks.

I'm a light sleeper who can hear everything that goes on outside, and I've tried several different sleep machines. You know the ones where you can choose from a variety of sounds, such as the ocean or thunder; etc. When I listen to those, I always notice a pattern in the recording, which irritates me. br>This is merely a supporter; That's right, no frills, just a steady fan noise. br>It drowns out the barking dog across the street and allows me to sleep soundly all night. It's small enough for me to take with me when my wife and I go on vacation.

We have several white noise machines (one for each bedroom), but one of them died recently, and we needed a replacement right away. I knew there was only one setting on this, and I was hoping it was the high setting. It's the one on the bottom. So, while it's a nice machine, it's not quite as loud as I'd hoped.

This is huge for me because I have yet to find a machine that makes fake fan sounds that sound even close to real fan sounds. It is important to me to have a real fan inside, but it may not be an issue or concern for everyone. EASY TO USE - br>br> The device is simple to operate. All you have to do is plug it in and press a single button. You can adjust the sound simply by turning the dome. Everything can be done with just one hand (no sticking or adjusting required). EFFECTIVE - br>br> TVs, talking, booming music, and other noises from other parts of the house, as well as noises from outside, are all drowned out by this unit. br>br>CONS: br>br>SOUND/VOLUME OPTIONS ARE LIMITED - The sound and volume range is extremely restricted. While it's great that there's a real fan inside, it's also a bummer that the fan only has one speed. In addition to having only one speed setting, there is only one layer/level of dome movement, with a limited range. I also have a sound box with a dome that can be adjusted in two ways: It has two fan speeds and a wide range of pitch between top and bottom. That's a significant improvement over the machine's very limited range. On the plus side, the machine is a little louder than it is weak, and you can always move it further away from you if necessary. OVERALL: br>br> This unit comes highly recommended for its ease of use, simplicity, and sound quality. blocking.
