I usually buy Bob Red Mill brown lentils, but I've also purchased other brands of beluga lentils. But I bought these because BRM was out of stock and it was my first time looking for organic. I'm glad I took the opportunity to do so. Taste, texture, and flavor are all excellent. Thank you very much for putting them together! I'm going to buy a lot more of these!.
Cooking is very simple. They took about 40 minutes instead of the recommended 25, and they were just firm enough for my liking.
However, if you're looking for a new way to eat lentils, give these a try! They cook up nice and crunchy, look great plated alongside cooked and cubed butternut squash, and will earn you the admiration of your friends for coming up with this unique take on a vegetarian staple. So, if you're looking for a "new" lentil flavor, look no further. It's a little nuttier than the other. Have a look at this. Packaged in a pleasing manner. It is simple to keep. What's not to like about that?.
These aren't black lentils, in my opinion! Before I cooked them, I soaked them in water that had turned a dark blueish black color! Buyer beware; they appeared to have been dyed this color, so I tossed them out. Although I was unable to return it, Amazon was gracious enough to provide a refund.
They're worth the extra money because they have a great flavor and, more importantly, we always get good texture from them; they don't turn to mush like red lentils do, but they're very soft and not grainy like green lentils. Toasted green salads and baked winter squash are some of our favorites. I like the fact that they're grown in Canada.
WOW - I'd never tried black lentils before because they weren't available in my local markets. I decided to order beluga lentils after reading a recipe that praised their flavor, and I discovered that they had an acceptable use by date. They're tasty, quick, and simple to make. They've become a favorite side dish, and we've even turned them into a main meal by adding Italian sausage, peppers, onions, celery, and other vegetables. I would strongly suggest it.
The lentils have a high quality. It was meticulously sorted and cleaned. This was a wise investment!.
