There should be a total of 12. This item was ordered, but only one was delivered. After filing a complaint with Amazon, I was sent another. I'm still waiting on ten more boxes a year later. THIS IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED.

My wife and I each had a large portion for dinner from one box, and she still had enough for lunch the next day. It keeps well and neatly, which is important because we don't have access to a supermarket. It's a great deal to get a main course for two for $2. I stir fry some onions and, on occasion, veggie sausage (we are vegetarians), and occasionally add a can of tomato, which expands the flavor even more. If you don't add an extra cup of water or a can of tomato, it will become too thick. The only drawback I can think of is that it's a little salty. The more vegetables I add, the less salty it becomes, but if you're watching your sodium intake, this might be something to think about. This is something I'll keep buying over and over.
I'm currently displaced from my native country near New Orleans, and the local stores don't carry this Zatarain item, presumably because it isn't a complete "meal in a box. " And those who prefer a boxed meal are truly missing out! I get a 1 pound bag of red beans and a smoked Hillshire Farms sausage, cut the sausage into 1 inch lengths, dump it all in a pot with the required water and seasonings in the box, bring it to a boil, then let it simmer for 2 or 3 hours. When it's done, put some white rice on a plate (amount YOU want, not what the meal in a box gives you) and ladle the beans and sausage over it! Yum! It's almost as if you're not cooking at all! Personally, I like my beans layered on top of a rice layer - Everything is incorporated into the meal mix. I don't think it's as good. Because I am a single man, I prepare one good meal and then freeze four more for later - Those meals are just as tasty as the others, and they're even easier to prepare!.
Good flavor, but you must cook your own beans and rice because the packages contain small bits of beans that will crunch if not properly cooked. I bought this because I used to buy red beans and rice but only used the flavor package, so this is the flavor package; however, I wasn't expecting the broken pieces of beans to be mixed in; However, you do receive a full box, as well as several packages, 12 to be exact, which I was surprised to receive and which are quite large. I gave it a three-star rating because there were unexpected pieces of broken beans in the packages, when clearly there should only be seasonings. Otherwise, knowing what I know, it's all about the seasoning, so I would definitely buy this product again, sifting the packages to remove the bean pieces.
Simply add sausage to the mix. This would be fantastic as the foundation for a jambalaya-style group dinner. I put it in the rice cooker with some water and smoked sausage after that. Set aside the rice cooker and go for a walk. It was an hour later. voila! For a group or just two people, this is the easiest, tastiest meal you'll ever make. I make two boxes with two large sausage links for 4 to 6 people, plus salad and a vegetable side. br>br>Because the sausage makes it a little salty, we don't eat it every day. In the winter, however, it's a great comfort food to enjoy while watching a game by the fire.
It's simple to put together. Contains a lot of salt, has a nice flavor, and is simple to make. Black beans are a nutritious food. If you wish, you may add more. Served as a lunch or dinner entree. Why did the price jump $15 from around $18/12-pounds of salt? $33 for a pack? It was roughly the same price as the Red Beans and Rice, so they should lower it. It's $1. Normally, a box costs $59 to buy.
I decided to check Amazon on the spur of the moment, and there it was, available and at a comparable price; I was happy to buy the 12-pack so that we could keep it on our shelves for a few months.
This summer, I hooked my Grandson on it, so I bought a case and had it shipped to his apartment, where he will be attending college, and he was overjoyed when it arrived at his door unannounced. It won't be long before I have to place another order for myself.
EDIT: Keep an eye on things - These appear to be sold separately on Amazon, but at the 12-pack price, they're a good deal. the cost of a pack The item title does not specify how many you will receive, and I received two single boxes rather than two 12-packs in my most recent order. packs. Still a good product, but I'm hoping Amazon clarifies the number of boxes included. (As an example - At my local grocery store, the same boxes usually cost around $2 each, so $18 per box is outrageous! )br>br>These are the same box mixes I've been purchasing locally for quite some time, which is a good thing! We like the flavor so much that we usually add an extra can of black beans to the mix. This makes a simple but filling chip dip with salsa and cheese, and it's also a great base for vegetarian tacos and fajitas. You should be able to try a single box from your local supermarket if you haven't tried them before, so you don't have to risk wasting the majority of a case if you don't like them. br>Buying these by the case from Amazon is very convenient (and usually very cost-effective, depending on price fluctuations).
