Is it possible to eat this?

It's rock salt, so 1) don't buy it; Home Depot sells large bags of rock salt for much less money, and 2) don't eat it. It's intended to melt the ice that freezes the cream/milk, not to be used in ice cream.

It's just rock salt, but it worked to make homemade ice cream!.

Although it works, there are far less expensive alternatives

The salt had just the right amount of saltiness to it. The problem is that it's basically rock salt, which can be purchased in much larger bags for half the price, resulting in a 10x markup. The packaging is the only positive aspect of this product.
