An external hard drive (supporting up to 2TB) or flash drive (supporting up to 64GB) can be attached to the 5" form factor.
As a general rule, this device is incompatible with cable companies and TIVO such as Comcast, DirecTV, DISH Network, Time Warner Cable, Shaw Cable, etc., and it does not work with encrypted cable signals. We do NOT propose to substitute a cable company's box for this one.

Questions & Answers

The device will be used to play video, not record it. What types of video formats is it compatible with?

Better yet, I would like to know what formats it will DivX 4 has been able to be played for me. You can refer to x and 5 as well. Please enter the character x,asi. The following file types are supported MP4, VOB, MOV, and more. I have attached the MKV file 4 as follows 3 & 4 You can play 9 video files from a USB drive. If you have a lot of personal video files you wish to watch on your tv without having to perform additional work such as converting and burning video files to disc, then this is a very convenient feature. My 1 tb external drive is used for storage (for play) and my 2 TB external WD drive is used for backup. With no issues, I recorded up to 500gb on my 500GB hard drive. The first thing you should do is download and install the software update. Likewise, you should format the drive into NTFS if you are going to record from it, or you will have multiple files for every You do not have to do so (unless you would like that)

You can watch one channel and record another one at the same time?

In all of these answers (except the first in 2014), the issue is becoming more complicated. I will tell you the answer in a minute NOT AT ALL! There is only one-click ordering Normally, a tuner receiver receives music. In order to record 1 channel while watching another, you need to use this box as the tuner for recording, and your TV as the tuner for watching. There is an antenna (coax) 'pass through' labeled "RF Out" on the box that allows you to do this. To connect them, just connect a coaxial cable to your TV's antenna port.

A HD TV with an antenna is what I have- This is not a converter I need, but a digital recorder. Would this be the right choice for me?

The recorder lets you record all the signals going in or out of It can be recorded if it is OTA (over the air) or if it is a digital cable signal. There's a problem with this box (and other brands as well) in that it doesn't scan all available channels at the same time. There are times when the antenna needs to be moved to gain access to other It was solved by setting up two different antennas in different locations so that I could receive all the channels. My A-grade is my preferred recording method when I need to record a specific program Then I flip over to the B switch and try to find it.
If you are using just cable signals, the box doesn't get all of the channels either, so it is needed to use a different approach. I discovered that different brands of converter boxes have different sets of channels, which is why I bought two sets of converter boxes, Mediasonic HomeWorx and Iview. There are certain channels that are similar among them, such as CBS and There are a few MovieTv, CozyTv, etc., but I'm not able to watch nearly all of the PBS stations on my With Ivew I'm able to watch all 21 channels, as well as Create, World, Thirteen, channel 21, MeTv, and Gettv. This is my experience in the matter, but I do not know if it depends on the location. This box is easy to use if you want simply to record your favorite shows, but you should make sure that the box displays the channels you want to record. You may buy another one if you don't need just one (they are not that expensive), but it is also a good idea to buy a different brand to help expand your list of television channels (to record). If you have two boxes, you can record two different programs in two different channels at the same time. Also, you can connect them to your television from two different ports, like HDMI and components so they can both be hooked up

Is there a program guide that you make use of to set up recordings if there is one?

A program guide is displayed, so you may use it to record programs. If you click on the EPG button, you will see the guide for that channel. They do not always appear with the same number of titles, and occasionally take a while to populate. There is the option to show six or seven programs or 24 hours or more of the schedule for that channel that depends on the menu's availability. Occasionally, it shows a summary of the program, usually in the form of a video. Don't forget to put a USB device in there as well. It takes roughly one hour to watch a movie that is 2 hours in length. A minimum of 5 or 2GB of memory is recommended. In addition to OTA, it can record cable broadcasts as well. Streaming cable signals requires the program to be manually scheduled, but otherwise works the same way.

What I was looking for, and much As we cut cable and went with antenna, this was not an option we had any longer
5/5

We have a digital Smart TV by Samsung, so we don't need a converter, but I have seen comments in other reviews saying that its converter works better than what their TV was capable of. I'm so glad! Despite living in the central Phoenix area, we have no view of the broadcasting towers south of our house due to high rise buildings. Our decision to go OTA was made in spite of the fact that we might experience signal break-ups and interference occasionally. I was the one who unpacked and set up the unit, even though I'm not a tech whiz. Anyway, we received the unit today, and I was the one who unpacked and set up the unit. The first time I switched on the unit, it worked on the first try! I had an HDMI cable on hand, so I used it for the connection between the cable box and my TV, rather than using the audio and video cables that came with it. My highest requirement was the ability to record, so I connected a 500 GB portable hard drive (Seagate) to the device and tried it out first. It started recording instantly and I was able to navigate the menu to find where my recording was saved and to Even though I still need to experiment, so far I am very satisfied with the results. An additional benefit is that we receive a better signal on channels that are unreliable and jerky at times. It sometimes seems like our local stations are so erratic that it bothers me Cutting off the relationship and breaking it off. Right now, it appears that the box is somehow amplifying or decoding the signal more efficiently than our television. It would not be possible for me to be.

It was a great product that exceeded my It is amazing that this PVR/converter box exists
4/5

In the beginning, I want people to know that this is a solution for your antenna, and you can't really judge this model on the basis of what you have experienced with cable or satellite There is simply no way you can meet such serious expectations without spending a few hundred dollars more and maybe even paying a subscription fee. My unit cost me only $40 when I included tax, and it exceeded my expectations in every way. In other words, I have not taken away a star due to the fact that it's not as easy to use as a satellite DVR, but instead based on the merits of the product, which I will explain in a moment. In the meantime, I'd like to provide a few answers to a few questions that aren't readily available to people looking into this. * This unit is only for TV receiving via antenna or OTA. The cable cannot be uncrambled, even if it is scrambled. wish to ignore this and use it for unscrambled cable, you can email the company and ask them to send you the It's up to you whether or not you choose that route. They don't post this on their web site, and it is unsupported, not on their site. It is only for antenna TV. You'll need a converter box for this, which converts digital broadcasts to analog so that your older analog TV can work with them. The issue is more complex than that. In addition to the HDMI out, it also outputs 1080p, so it doesn't degrade the picture quality. They call it a converter, but it also has an HDMI out that works perfectly with your HDTV. It's important to remember that, even through HDMI, a channel broadcast in 480i quality will still appear to be in 480i. A majority of the main channels broadcast in 720p, and a few in If you are using HDMI or component, this box will allow you to enjoy the same high-quality image. You can watch one channel using this box, since it only has one tuner. However, this box has a passthrough feature that allows you to run a cable wire from your antenna input to your digital TV, and watch that channel simultaneously with the HW-DVR. Something else is being recorded by 150PVR. TVs with old analog tuners will not be able to use this feature. The PVR features can only be utilized as long as you possess a USB hard drive or memory stick. This device will record at whatever quality is being broadcast, so it will consume a lot of storage It appears that 10GB is the average amount of data used by HD video for an hour. So, be aware of that. As long as the recording is going on, you can't watch any other channels. Watching what is being recorded is not possible, so you will have to use the passthrough feature and change TV sources if you wish to do so. It seems that some people have been able to switch between the sub-domains Although I have not tried it myself, I have heard that you can record channels while recording. EPG (electronic program guide), a schedule of all programs airing on a given channel Having known going in what it would just be showing what information is being broadcast, and that it wouldn't be the same as a cable or satellite guide, it In the guide, you can only see the content for the channel that you're currently watching, but you can toggle channels by pressing the right or left button. The amount of content depends on the channel and time of day, but I found it to be much more than expected. There are times when it seems like that's a couple of days' work. In the guide, you can look ahead and pick a show to record, click on that show, and then click on "record. " As well as recording at the same time each day, it can also record at the same time every week. You should be aware that it saves the files to an empty folder in your root directory of your USB drive, not inside the application. When the program records, it names it based on the channel name, the time, and the However, you can manually change the name of a file. You also have access to the files of the recorded shows, so you can edit them on a computer if you want to, which you cannot do with a cable or satellite The time shift mode is available in the following cities First of all, you have to adjust to the fact that it does not always automatically record live TV so you can pause and watch it later. need to actually put your computer in time shift mode by pressing Pause before any of that will function. For it to enter time shift mode, it takes a minute, so if you would like to use it with a show, you should pause at the beginning so you are not waiting a minute for it to enter the mode when the show is beginning. Even so, this is an incredible thing to be able to do with OTA TV. In addition, you cannot change channels if you're in time shift unless you stop the program to exit that mode, which allows you to get back to live TV in that mode. When you are on time shift, you cannot see the guide or see the program information. The fact that you can do all this for only $40 is pretty awesome. You only get media playback if you are on a PC Having the ability to play a wide range of video, audio, and picture files is one of the things that really excite me about this product. The USB hard drive plays all my DVDs and Blu rays that I have ripped to it, and it is suitable for playing all of the DVDs I have ripped. One of the few problems I had was viewing most of my Blu-ray ripped movies. I was able to view the video but not hear the My first attempt was using the DTS codec. I used Handbrake to convert all of them into AAC, and it worked great. Not only that, but it brought the file sizes down from 30GB to around 7GB each without sacrificing any As well as playing MP3 files, it supports WMA and AAC files. The only complaint I really have is that there is nothing clear about the next phase of the project. Almost everything seems to run smoothly except for a few bugginess issues. I had to restart it on a couple of occasions while I was setting it up without any apparent reason. Even so, it's only taking a couple of seconds to load, and it hasn't happened in a while. The user interface is also nice but a little Press the USB button to access the PVR and media features. It takes at least a couple of seconds before the media features are displayed. You will probably be tempted to keep pressing the button until you learn that. There was a time when I kept mash buttons and I got it locked up. It only needs to be pressed once, then waited for a few seconds before you are able to A few of the remote buttons, such as play, pause, and stop, are just small buttons lined up in a row that are difficult to locate without trying. It is possible to solve this problem if you have a learning universal remote. Another issue is that there are no Page Up/Down buttons for when I am navigating through I enjoyed this product to the point that I reviewed it for this long. However, it does have a few small flaws, and it didn't stop me from loving it. That was a great deal of value, and I was very pleased with it.

I used it because it did what I wanted
3/5

When I was looking for the best way to connect an OTA antenna to my receiver, this product caught my attention because it provides audio to my stereo receiver along with picture to my television via HDMI output. My T-Mobile network worked flawlessly, and the DVR feature was a nice bonus. The USB thumb drive was used as a storage device.
