Is Apple TV 4K the right choice for you? Do you have a 4K TV with HDR support? Are you connected to the Internet at a speed of 30 Mb/s or more? Do you have a primary mobile platform that runs on Does iTunes make up a significant part of your content library? In this case, I believe you will find that Apple TV is a competently executed, and occasionally satisfyingly done device that taps into the culture of iOS. You can probably get by with some cheaper, alternative device if this is not possible. The Apple TV 4K is the main streamer attached to my 4K TV, which is an LG OLED55B7. I've owned every generation of the Apple TV, starting with the original silver box. The Apple TV which I am reviewing has been in my possession for 3 months now, so I'm qualified to give an in-depth The main difference between 32GB and 64GB is the fact that content is almost uniformly streamed (although there are a few limited DVR options of course). Any excess space would then be used by large video games with large assets. version to make sure it would be a good investment in the future. With the 32GB version, the majority of people will be just as satisfied as with the 64GB Apple's announcement that 4K material would not only be sold without an additional cost, but already purchased movies like The Princess Bride and James Bond movies can now be upgraded to 4K had me delighted as an owner of hundreds of iTunes movies. If you use tvOS settings to match the frame rate of the content and HDR settings on TV, older movies look much better, especially when HDR is recorded. When you combine the flat black level and the color pop of old movies with the loss of frame conversion judder, you get an experience like none other. As a down side, switching the TV's display mode causes it to go black for a few seconds at the beginning and end of each video playback. In case your TV supports HDR, the quality of titles in your catalog -- movies I've watched dozens of times by now -- can be eye-opening. It was surprising to see that films like Ghostbusters (1984) were still as visually enticing as they are today. Due to the fact that my TV supports Dolby Vision, and newer iTunes movies are usually encoded in that advanced HDR format, I am anticipating a treat when I see the Dolby Vision tag Seeing movies like La La Land, which are so encoded, makes me wonder if a human eye can guage a better picture in such a situation. It is really worth trying out a new OLED if you have one. I recently purchased an Ultra HD Blu-ray player out of curiosity A comparison of the iTunes 4K Dolby Vision version of Justice League to the HDR Blu-ray version of the film was performed. In order to learn what I was lacking in streaming quality, I decided to test out a few things. I had the nagging feeling that the CD version was cleaner, but I could not tell much difference between the two as I switched between the two. It was a pleasure to see both of them. There is also a scene about midway through the movie where my UHD Blu-ray player can't load the movie Having my Blu-ray player lock up led me to discover that scrubbing through a movie on my Apple TV is much faster than on In my opinion, the convenience and lower cost of online streaming movies far outweigh any barely perceptible improvements in quality, so I am unlikely to purchase a UHD disc ever At the time of this writing, I have 30 megabit fiber-optic service to the house and 4K movies stream within a few seconds most of the time and I have only been paused once for buffering in months of using it actively. The latest versions of some apps are required. As an example, I use an over-the-air DVR app (MythTV) that exhibits poor frame rate conversions and horrible color matching even when the settings are set to content matching. Let's get this updated as soon as possible. With the release of tvOS 12, Apple takes customer expectations one step further by bringing the high end audio system Dolby Atmos to many movies, decoded in some special way. Because I am that kind of person, I spent a Sunday scurrying through my attic installing a pair of affordable ceiling speakers and wiring them into my (compatible) I think it is a great improvement, but not an amazing Unlike the Dolby demo app on my LG TV, which illustrates the effect of height speakers, actual movies tend to have subtle effects that would even be missed if not for the demo app. As a result of listening to Atmos encoded movies on iTunes I've got Lego Batman, Ready Player One, and Taking a look at Homecoming, Justice League, and Although I enjoyed listening to One Amazing Day, I was disappointed that the amount of sound coming out of the ceiling speakers is often very small. A bit of background music or echo is often all that is heard. How does it compare to the previous version? It is true. My ceiling looks better now than it did after I spent $120 and an afternoon cutting it into quarters? It is true. There are some spectacular-looking views in the area Has the experience of watching movies changed my perception of them? There are none. This is just a nice bonus.

As an App Platform,
Apple has made it simple to migrate iOS apps to the tvOS platform, so the majority of the code for my app runs on both platforms without modifications. As such, developers do not have any technical reason to avoid tvOS. Despite this, there hasn't been a gold rush in the last few years, and corporate goals have clashed. example, YouTube will not have the best quality video due to a dispute between Apple and Google about the VP9 codec, and it took Amazon a long time to finally bring the Prime Video app (a fairly mediocre one). However, the Amazon Prime Video app on Apple TV does not skip audio like the version embedded in my TV. It also delivers stunning images, as amply illustrated by the beautiful cars that roll throughout The Grand Tour on Apple TV. This is amazing. In addition to streaming services like Hulu, Netflix, iTunes, Amazon Video, VRV, and SlingTV, I also have access to content from local area sources such as Tablo DVR and live TV "channels" using my network's DVR. The fact that more services are allowing their content to be gathered into the centralized TV is a good thing A mobile application Content is not scattered across different apps, so I don't have to search through them. Those with content purchased on Amazon, Vudu, and Google Play can set up an account with Movies Anywhere, download the free app, and access non-owner content You can play iTunes content on the Apple TV (and get a few free movies in the deal). As a Game Machine, the machine offers a variety of games, my family is particularly fond of Just Dance which takes advantage of the accelerometer on the Siri remote, and I have a couple of gamepads that make games like Asphalt 8 playable. The Apple TV has not yet become a dominant gaming destination when compared with PlayStation or Xbox.

The Remote
The Apple TV's remote is flimsy and can be frustrating for simple things The deficiencies of this streamer were the main reason I gave it a 4-star rating instead of a 5-star rating. In most cases, it works, and if you begin to use Siri for things like finding directions and ordering food, it can be a lot of There is a simple affordance of a white ring around the menu button on the 4K version of this remote that makes it easier visual to determine which end is which. There is one feature on the remote that I really like the volume buttons. I have tried everything I could think of to get it to work There are a couple of Bluetooth headphones inside my TV, my receiver, and the speakers inside my receiver. The feature of Siri that I like the most is the ability to turn off devices using HomeKit. As a result, I'll just telling it to turn off the basement lights or the AC in the guest room before I go to bed. In terms of interacting with other devices, I have a new Yamaha 4K Home Theater Receiver and I am happy about how waking the Apple TV will awaken the receiver as well as the TV over HDMI, and how the TV remote can also control the Apple TV. In this situation, a universal remote would be For listening to music at night, I also enjoy using Bluetooth headphones that are easy to pair. Compared with the wired connection that will be found on the Roku remote, I consider this more superior. I can also pair my TV with Bluetooth headphones, which is even better as I will be able to hear all the sounds and not just those coming from Many Bluetooth keyboards are inexpensive and can be paired with iPhones, making searches and password entry a whole lot easier. I've been using the iPhone remote app a lot lately. also worked with the new Denon and Sony receivers I tested. There is no doubt that I am a strong advocate for devices that have Ethernet ports, as I believe in the old adage that you do not have a problem if you have a wire. The device does however support modern WiFi in case you need it. If you want to dive deep into the Apple ecosystem, an Apple TV can function as the hub for your home automation needs with HomeKit. Therefore, I can remotely switch on and off lights, turn on and off fans, control my thermostat, and find out the temperature in a wide array of rooms using Additionally, the airplay feature can be amazingly useful for bringing up content from a phone, such as sharing a YouTube video. As a result, I now read the homework my son does in his computer class via Airplay, so we can both comfortably read it on the big screen while he works on it. It is difficult to pinpoint the issue of reliability as the current version of tvOS has been extraordinarily reliable but apps have occasionally had There is no way to guarantee on a daily or weekly basis that it will happen every time. The Apple TV 4 contains a better processor than the previous version, but I cannot say that it makes the video smoother than the Apple TV 4. If you don't own a 4K TV with HDR, then you won't notice any difference in As far as functionality is concerned, the Apple TV 4 behaves like a In addition, the older generations beyond that are showing signs of aging. In particular, the 3rd generation is slow and the 2nd generation is unstable. Because the 4K don't offer a USB port, you'll probably have to use remote debugging if you want to develop apps. The Apple TV 4K is a good choice for me. Even though Apple prices it like an Apple product, I use it every day in many ways, and it does everything I want from a streaming device.

A 4kTV would be a great companion for an Applephile to buy
5/5

Since a few years ago, our house has been completely Appleized, and the Apple TV box has played a big role in that. there is anything I have to complain about, it's that I had just upgraded from a third generation box to a 4th when this 4k version was released. This was no big deal until we upgraded to a 4K television soon after, and then I had no choice but to invest in a 4K There are 2 HDMI ports, ARC, and ARC. In addition to those options, and 18Gbit). It's critical to use the right HDMI cables otherwise you may not be able to enjoy the full benefits of 4k, such as A 4kHDR or DolbyVision signal streamed at 60 Hz would be ideal. It has an LG 65-inch LED/LCD 4kHD TV connected to a Yamaha receiver with 4k pass-through capability and a 5 channel receiver. The home theater speaker system comes with one speaker. In addition to these peripherals, there is the AppleTV, Firestick, Wireless high speed internet is running every feature and entire system communicates with each other flawlessly. In addition to running the Apple remote directly, all the remotes automatically operate every other device. Once you are in the Apple Store, the following steps will be taken Verses, all you need to do is plug in this thing and it will almost automatically set up. You need to update the software to get your 4k settings to I didn't know it would be so simple. The software has many free and some paid options. I don't do much gaming, but it does that capability as well. I'll just conclude by telling you to get what you want if you're here, so just get it if you're reading this. In order to achieve our goal of cutting the cord, we obtained a 4k Apple TV box along with an HD OTA antenna. The following are the final edits Things have been going well for a few months now. The LG television I have has many of the same apps as my Apple TV, but I find the iOS apps are much better when using an iOS device. YouTubetv, in particular, can be rather glitchy when using the LG device, but works perfectly with the Apple TV. There is one more point to go! I have made a second edit to the above I see quite a few comments under my post that seem to be fake. That is pretty lame, and I have no idea if that is an Amazon or Apple issue. As a result, it appears to be a scam product, which Apple products are not. We have used this box for 2 years now and it has been fine. Despite being a few years old, it still seems to be a good buy. Do not take any notice of these. Fill out the following comment form.

I'm so glad there is no buffering anymore! Among the three Roku boxes we own and the Amazon Fire - all of them share the same problem - no television picture or sound on the screen
5/5

The buffer is constantly being filled. If you are watching an important football game or the best part of your favorite show, you'll likely want to pull this out of the wall and throw it out the window. To my mind, the Apple TV stands head and shoulders above its competitors. I love how fast it is and that no buffering is an issue. It's certainly a bit pricey, but I wish I had saved up my pennies!.
