As soon as I contacted Directv about activating this box, they told me they could do it but that it would extend my contract by two years or they could send me a refurbished box for $22 without an extension of the contract. It has returned.

I gave Reider Electronics 4 stars because their communication is excellent they sent the order out quickly. It's unclear why factory sealed new boxes contained 4 month old firmware that needed to be updated to (0x09F6) before the Remote can be configured to work in RF mode. A newer firmware update (0x0a5) was then received the next morning at 238 a. m. A 30 AM start time. It would be nice to have the blue button that is now missing from the new remote. It took me a long time to get DirecTV to send me a hard copy of the User Guide. The batteries supplied for the remote were substandard carbon-zinc batteries. The alternative is to use alkaline batteries instead of zinc. My CSR helped me get my three TB External eSata drive from HR- it was a pleasure to work with her It takes 34 minutes to get To start DirecTv, turn off the direcTv box, turn on the eSATA hard drive, and then turn it back on. On the other hand, the Hard Drive was not formatted upon startup. All of the items on the directory are still present, but no longer able to be viewed. It took me 30 minutes to delete all the years of recordings, but luckily on HR it's faster Because the Series Manager was still in place, a lot of time was saved on the I am waiting for the Directories to update (48 hours?) before On Demand will be operational. This is a great unit, but Directv does not offer it. It is the same as Directv's HR54 except for the caller ID.

In order to replace an existing HR34, I purchased the HR44. The HR44 would enable me to access my DVR from mobile devices and would also be faster than the HR34. I have been a DirecTV customer for several years, and I wanted to upgrade to a HR44 to take advantage of the new features. live in California and, contrary to a review that stated that HR44 could not be used in this state, I have found that mine works just fine. In the first few minutes after receiving the unit, I unplugged my older receiver and plugged in the HR44. My experience with DirecTV was very good and I was able to activate the device It did not cost anything to activate the receiver and there are no additional monthly fees for the HR44. I pay a connection fee to DirecTV for the 'Advanced Receiver Service' and this did not change with the upgrade. Due to the fact that I purchased this receiver from Amazon for less than half its box price (I bought a refurbished unit), I think this was an excellent purchase. The package also included a new remote. Since I already use a universal remote, I didn't have to use the new one. There was no programming change necessary for the universal remote to work with the new HR44. Lastly, I would like to point out In light of the fact that my HR34 is owned by DirecTV, they are sending me a box so I can send it back at no cost to them. Overall, I'm very happy with the new HR44, and installation was relatively straightforward.
