Questions & Answers

What formats of VHS tapes can this unit convert? Can it convert both NTSC and PAL tapes?

VHS tapes are recorded in the NTSC format, which is utilized in the USA. In Europe and other parts of the world, PAL is used as the standard. This means that Magnavox ZV427MG9 recorders/players sold in the USA will only play VHS tapes that are in the NTSC In general, machines that can handle both types of formats are extremely expensive and are not available for consumer use.

Are VHS tapes capable of being output to HDMI?

You can connect a HDMI cable to it. Compared to the other units we sell, the picture quality of this unit is much better than the lack of component cable output on those units.

How does it record TV? Does it require the use of an external tuner?

It does require an external tuner, but so far it has been playing well and I am very pleased with it so far. While I am watching a show, I often use my VCR/DVD combo with an internal tuner to save the recording.

Selected User Reviews For Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder/VCR Combo, HDMI 1080p Up-Conversion, No Tuner

I bought this VCR in August 2019
3/5

After I bought it, it failed twice. When I arrived, it was working, so I used it once. Next, it was time for travel, work, and I tried turning it on again just a couple of months later, and it wouldn't turn on. As for the seller (KC Clearing House), he wasn't very helpful. As well as not offering to fix it (neither under warranty nor for a fee), he dismissed my idea, and was unhelpful when I asked for hints on how to fix it myself. The problem is that Amazon won't allow me to review the books.

Not long before it ended
3/5

A vintage recorder like this costs more than $200. There was a rapid rise followed by an abrupt end. Initially, the seller included his phone number on the machine for me to call if I ever had problems, but when I called to speak to him, I left a message (over 4 weeks ago now) and I haven't heard back from him. I think $200+ for a product that will last less than a year is too much. There's only one advantage so far (thanks to Apple tech support) I found a cheaper alternative (using a regular player) and a direct connection to the computer to convert the video. We offer a better quality and a faster service. It turns out to be a simple issue. However, I would not give this seller a high rating since they offer support but do not deliver.

It is easy to use once it is connected properly

Having purchased a second Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder/VCR Combo within two months, I found this one quite attractive. My favorite part of these units is the lighting. The second thing that needs to be addressed in order to make this unit function optimally is the location of the monitoring equipment. For this machine to work, you must have at least one composite and one HDMI input on your television. Otherwise, the machine will not be able to do its job. Neither can it rip a video from a VHS tape to a DVD or from a DVD to a VHS tape, nor will it rip a video in 6-hour mode. Secondly, if you simply turn the machine off, your programs will not be recorded. I have a DVD recorder that automatically starts recording once the power button is pressed, but not this unit as it is a combo unit, so I had to get used to this new feature. After you have completed your programming, look for the little red clock if the clock appears then any programs recorded while you are away will record. If the clock does not appear then your programs will not be recorded while you are away because you did not It is important to note that channels are brought in via RCA cables since there is no tuner, so this It's really nice to use this unit and I don't have any problem buying used units, especially when they save me more than half the price of new ones. strongly recommend purchasing a refurbished unit. They are usually priced under $100 and are in excellent condition. In addition to the Toshiba DVD/VHS Recorder, I also purchased a Magnavox recorder because I could not program the one controller to do two displays at the same time from my Magnavox recorder because they would be stacked on top of each other. Only thing different about them is the Magnavox comes in at a lower price.
When I pressed the Source button on the unit, DVD and VHS were listed next to it, the player didn't respond. My findings are the same regardless of whether I use the DVD or VHS buttons on the remote control. It got stuck on the VHS mode while I was recording on a DVD disc. I. wanted to record on a DVD disc but it wouldn't switch. Thank goodness I had another DVD recorder to use, so I recorded on my backup. When I went back to my Magnavox VHS DVD dual recorder, I turned my unit off for a couple minutes but nothing changed, it has remained In fact, it worked well when I unplugged it overnight, and it automatically reset. Thanks to my DVD function buttons, I am now able to use the DVD. In other words, if you run into a stuck or nonresponsive app, please If the unit does not have a working button, leave it off overnight to see if it works the next day. It was a blessing to set the time and date again the next morning. In my line of work, I deal with restaurant appliances that are computerized. Twenty percent of the time, the problem is solved by simply unplugging the units overnight, resulting in my only charging one hour and no travel time the next day.

It is great to have such a recorder
4/5

That's right, it works great. In spite of the fact that these operations can be complex, the directions are reasonable. Make sure you read through A VCR tape can be made into a DVD. The main issue for me was this. Buy the DVDs after reading the instructions, but do not buy them until you read them. In theory, there are 12 kinds of recorder, and depending on the quality and number of records you need, you need to have the right one. The "dubbing" of a DVD into a VCR, or making a copy of a VCR into a DVD, is what that word means. There's one more thing you should get, you should get an HDMI cable. There is no built-in version, but if you can use the one with your TV, that will be the only connection you need to make, and it's the best option.

It has so far been a great experience
5/5

This DVD recorder has received many positive reviews before I bought it. Many negative reviews were left, however, it would seem that most of them were due to Consequently, I decided to dedicate myself to the project & My experience with the software has been good so far I have burned about ten full DVDs without issues. In spite of my nervousness, a vhs of my kids turned out perfectly on a dvd, and I even plugged in my Xbox for playback. We recorded a few Halo videos to DVD. technical genius, but I understand the basics & I know how to use it With this device, you can easily work and play around with it Getting started is easy. If you run into any trouble, simply follow the instructions.
