After contacting Toshiba, everything seems to be working fine
4/5

This DVD recorder was bought to digitize old home movies on videocassettes and make them available on DVD. In 1988, we took our first home movie. In the end I was able to use the recorder to dub my old home movies successfully to DVDs thanks to some advice from Toshiba customer service. I, along with several other users, noticed when I followed the instructions for dubbing to DVD, the recorder displayed a "Barred" icon, a red circle with a slash through it. As a result of several unsuccessful attempts with different brands of DVD disks, I contacted After speaking with the first customer service agent at Toshiba, I was able to resolve the issue, but it still couldn't be resolved. Afterward, I spoke with another representative at Toshiba in order to resolve the recording issues. Both of the customer service agents were knowledgeable and explained their advice with great precision. I was very satisfied with Toshiba customer service. I will summarize these methods below to help other people who have difficulty using the recorder. 1

The instant return is here again
3/5

As I got burned by purchasing the Funai that could not rip VHS to DVD, this time, in addition to the personal reviews, some of which were obviously fake, I carefully read claims made by the manufacturer. There is no doubt that this unit will rip VHS to DVD. Toshiba clearly states that this feature is available. I was not sent a unit that would operate that way. My manual is lousy I had to find reliable directions from folks who had called Toshiba Support. So yes, I had DVD_R, yes, I had the recording mode set to L1, and yes, I had done more than one test Because the machine could not finalize the discs, they are coasters instead. As I have burned two copies, I am looking for a machine that will dub VHS to DVD effectively and simply. As this is being written on 23 May 2016, I am not sure what to do now since I have burnt the same copy.

We were told that the delivery would take longer than we expected. I was still able to receive it within the timeframe. Purchasing this item was solely because of the following reasons It is possible to convert old VHS tapes to DVDs. am not aware of other uses for the Toshiba DVR620. My previous experience was to spend almost the price of the Toshiba to have 15 VHS tapes "professionally" copied, plus to wait more than a month for them to be returned to me. It is not necessary to sort and connect RCA cables to my TV monitor, because it is connected to it by HDMI. It's a pleasure to have reviewer "G. " on board. The installation of Packert was so easy that I hardly read the owner's manual, yet within 30 minutes I was copying DVDs. It has now been a couple of weeks since I copied my first tape. The only downside of this method is that transfers from VHS to DVD are made in real time. Since I can watch the tapes while I copy them to DVD and there are some I have not seen for years (decades), I do not find this too tedious to watch them while they are being transferred. The remote does not need to be used to eject CDs or tapes - some reviewers said that. The steps to copying are as follows Several months ago, I bought the "easy CD & DVD" Roxio Burning DVD is a DVD burning software. Even though it was available on Amazon, I didn't buy from them because I required it right away. Having gained a lot of experience, I was able to learn and use the program easily. The “easy CD & DVD Creator” software from Roxio was a perfect fit for me However, there is one thing missing from the DVD Roxio will copy without sound (!) when you copy a single "title/chapter" that you've created (not the entire DVD! When you click here, you will see an AC3 codec is not supported message. It is recommended that you buy a copy of Creator NXT 3 from the Roxio support team Nevertheless, reviews on Amazon (for that product) convinced me to avoid wasting my money on it. The easiest, and fastest way if you intend to copy the entire DVD (not just selected titles/chapters) is to use the "easy CD & DVD Creator" program It works perfectly when you watch it on DVD. Whenever I only wanted one chapter or title (with sound) and not the entire DVD, I would recopy just that portion of the VHS tape to DVD (again). That's not a problem. It just took more time. Please note, also, that it took me approximately 3 hours to play, convert, title, and copy one standard SP VHS tape (2 hours recording) per day. Despite being well labeled with subject and time markers on my old VHS tapes, they had no time or subject In the case that your tapes are not already labelled, you will need extra time in locating the places where you need to add your titles and chapters (see You can also set chapter marks by letting the machine establish them at a specified In summary,

As far as what I came to it for (converting VHS tape to DVD) the Toshiba DVR620 DVD/VHS Recorder works great.
