Questions & Answers

Is it possible to record cable TV to a DVD disc directly?

Some channels have a copy protection feature. It's password-protected and won't let you record to a DVD.

Is it possible to record local television programs with this device? I mean, what if I don't have cable?

You either have a tv with a digital tuner or a separate digital tuner/converter box connected to your tv if you don't have a cable or satellite receiver and are receiving your tv signals via an antenna. Connect the outputs of the digital converter box to the inputs of the Toshiba DR430 Recorder, and then connect the outputs of the recorder to the TV inputs if you're using a digital converter box from your antenna to the TV. You'll be connecting from the video (yellow jack), audio (red jack), and video (yellow jack) jacks. white jacks) to jacks of the same color in out of the Toshiba DVD Recorder and into a TV input If you don't already have a digital converter box for your local stations, you'll need to purchase one to connect to the Toshiba Recorder in order to record local shows because the recorder lacks a tuner. They are available at Wal-Mart for around $30. Mart or Radio Shack, that is the question. I provided a lot of information, but the setup is simple. At Radio Shack, they'll be able to assist you. I have one box hooked up exactly like this, and it works perfectly. I hope this information was useful.

Is it possible to record from a cable television set-top box?

Yes, I use it solely for that purpose. I first record a program on my DVR, then play the DVR'd program on the Toshiba while recording. My cable box (video, audio L, and audio R out) is connected to my Toshiba (video, audio L, and audio R in) via a component cable (3 prongs). It really works. I can also control when the recording begins and ends. A movie may not run for the full two hours, but will end 10 minutes early to show "coming attractions" and other information.

What cables do I need to connect my DirectTV and television?

Hi Ricko,br>If the TV has an HDMI input, you can use an HDMI cable to connect the DVD player's HDMI output to the TV. If not, you can use an RCA audio cable. The video is yellow for video and red for right-side audio. Left-side audio is represented by the color white. If your directive box has an s video out on the back, use it to connect video to your DVD player. For sound, use an RCA audio cable that is red/white. Use an RCA cable if the directive box lacks an S video out. in order to hear video.

A STRONG BUY AND A STRONG DVD RECORDER
5/5

This unit was purchased to replace a Sony RDR GX-100 that had failed after seven years of service. DVD recorder with a capacity of 300 minutes I was conflicted after reading all of the comments. Here's what I discovered after I received the unit and set it up. The Toshiba DR430 DVD Recorder is an excellent DVD recorder. It can record and play all of the formats you'll ever need (R, RW, and -). R, - I've never heard of RW or any of the others). If you're over 40, you might have trouble using the remote, but a little squinting will help. This remote is black with gray buttons, as are all other black remotes. br>br>Comments that this unit takes a long time to load and format disks are complete nonsense. All DVD recorders take some time to set up. You're not watching a movie from the store. You have the option of recording in SP, LP, or EP format. Depending on the quality desired, you will receive different recording capacities per disk. A longer time equates to a lower quality product, whereas a shorter time equates to a better product. In the same way that old VHS VCR recorders worked. It's a foregone conclusion. The RECORD MODE button on the remote makes it simple to do so. I never use the timer and instead rely on the ONE STEP RECORD button. Each push allows you to record for 30 minutes, after which the recording stops. If you want to record a 90-minute movie from your Tivo, all you have to do is hit the record button three times. br>br>I paid $113 for it and received it in 4 days with free shipping. in good working order The box has no dings. The video and audio inputs and outputs are on the back, and you can use RCA or S cable. br>br>It isn't repackaged in a larger box, but I received mine just fine. br>br> It doesn't seem to mind that I'm using both. A front-panel input for recording (downloading) from a camcorder (or any other device) is hidden behind a small door. br>br>The manual contains everything you need to know, but you must read it to fully comprehend it. With the QUICK START sheet (4 pages), I was up and running in 15 minutes. One thing to keep in mind is that once you've made your recording on a disk, you must FINALIZE it in order for it to play on other DVD players. Remember to read the manual's section on FINALIZE, and you should be fine. br>br>The menus are simple, especially the TITLE EDIT button, but that's a good thing. It took me a while to get used to my previous Sony DVD recorder. It's a lot simpler this time. This is a purchase that I recommend.

DR-Toshiba The 430 is a fantastic DVD recorder and player
5/5

I recently purchased a second Toshiba DR- 430 My first one was about 7 or 8 years ago, and it has served me well ever since. br>However, when recording, the playback would occasionally freeze. This is almost certainly the result of a worn-out laser. Because I've recorded thousands of hours of movies, television shows, and whatever else you can think of and never had a problem. Some people gave it a low rating because it didn't come with a manual. Really? It's a DVD recorder, not brain surgery, come on. I wouldn't buy another recorder unless it was as good as this one for the price. br>I use a DirecTV recorder and a Roku streaming player to record, and the quality is close to HD. This one gets five stars from me. br>Who are these people who are awarding one and two stars? I'm not sure if they're dumb or if they just got a bad deal. I only know that the one I received was fantastic. This DVD Recorder/Player is something I highly recommend.

It has died and can no longer be repaired because it is no longer covered by the manufacturer's warranty
3/5

It worked for a few months after the warranty expired, but then it stopped reading discs. Almost all DVD recorders suffer from this issue. I know because I've owned at least a dozen over the years. It wouldn't be so bad if the manufacturers didn't make it that way. Because they don't keep repair parts on hand, if you bring one in for service, you'll almost certainly be told it can't be fixed. On the down side, most manufacturers, including Toshiba, appear to have stopped producing these. br>br>Having dismantled a few of these, I can confidently say that the actual drive unit inside is about as cheap as they can get away with. These could be easily fixed and the life extended if they used a standard mount or connector. They can't, however, because they don't have it. As a result, I no longer have access to a DVD recorder, which is unfortunate.

For what it can do, this DVD recorder is an excellent purchase
5/5

For what it can do, this DVD recorder is an excellent purchase. br>br>Other reviewers have gone into great detail about the Toshiba DVD recorder. It can playback standard DVDs that you buy or rent, as well as "upconvert" them to near-Blu-ray quality. quality of the ray It does not have the ability to play Blu-ray discs. 2. It has two methods for recording video sources: S-Video (three RCA cables, one video, two audio) and composite video (three RCA cables, one video, two audio) One video cable and two RCA audio cables are required for video. It will not be able to record via HDMI input.
3. It can be re-played in four different ways: RGB (three RCA cables - composite video) or RGB (three RCA cables - composite video) component video (five RCA cables - one video and two audio), and composite video (one video and two audio). S- (three video and two audio cables), S- (three video and two audio cables), S- (three video Video (one video cable and two RCA audio cables), as well as an HDMI cable for the best picture quality. A DVD recorder falls far short of a DVR system in this area. My cable company, Cablevision, used to let customers program their boxes to change channels at specific times. The Toshiba DVD recorder gained more versatility as a result of this. This capability has since been removed. (I suppose they're hoping you'll rent their DVRs. ) )br>br>However, if you want to record multiple programs from a single channel at different times and dates while you're away, you can. br>br>If you want to record more than one thing, you can do so. the- You'll need an external TV tuner and a good antenna to watch these programs on the air.
