As a result of this modification, the hardware will remain free of all regions after the firmware update has been installed.
PAL movies are not supported by my current player, so I bought it in order to view them Blurays and DVDs in European formats are available. To achieve that goal, I find that this Sony is perfect for me. Besides a Denon DVD player, I also have a Sony Walkman For NTSC, I prefer the following player As I only use the Sony when the Denon cannot play a disc, I only use it when the Denon cannot.
The answer is yes. 4K ultra hd discs can be played on this unit. It is important to let you know that my unit has recently has been giving me some trouble. The videos do not always play back. Others have had the same problem as me in the past. I plan to purchase another unit at some point. It may be worthwhile to keep this in mind

Even though the LG UP870 is $150 less expensive than this player (as of March 2018), it is much better. In addition to the X800, the X820 looked like it could be useful, but with Dolby Vision due out in the summer, this seemed the more viable choice. Sony appears to have gone with a newer player with a lower product number, X700, whereas the X800 was an older model. The region is free of charge. I am satisfied with it. It is always possible to watch all DVDs in any region, while Blu Ray players require pressing colors on the remote control (instructions come The following are the 4K version results Because this is my first experience with 4K, I can't really compare it to competing models, but specs wise this seems like it will be a great player for years to come. * The remote is the only downside. You can buy it for a very low price, and it is very There is an oddity with the remote (RMT - The following update is from two months ago In spite of the player's age, it is still in fine shape. The whole process went without a hitch. I can throw anything at it and it plays It has less USB power than my old Sony Blu Ray player so if you have a storage drive that doesn't keep the USB active all the time, you'd have to replace it When you use a USB drive that is an SSD, it will keep your drive from being logged in all the time. Just select the drive on the home screen, and it will begin reading again when it is selected. The other thing I noticed was a sleep timer that saves the connected drive from staying on when it doesn't have to be. Through USB SSD HDDs work great, but you really don't need them. USB 3. 0 is recommended. From a regular HDD the video files from 4K/2160p play perfectly fine. The following is the latest update, as of The software update M43 has been released. A new version of 0175 has been released today or yesterday that supports Dolby Vision.
In the end, I made the decision to purchase a Region Free BluRay In the end, I ordered in the 'normal' manner without indicating the seller after taking a moment to read the available options. One of Amazon's warehouses shipped the product to the customer. In two other occasions, I received the 'standard' US-made product Without the Region Free modification, you can only play BluRay and DVDs in Canada. Two of the boxes I received from the Amazon warehouse had just a small label on one of the sides They were both labeled incorrectly, neither had the cable in the box that was supposed to come in the box, nor did they have the 220 volt input. They both refused to play my Region B BluRay test disk even after I connected the plug to the 230 volt socket. In other words. Reading the reviews again, I was able to figure out that people who wrote positive reviews had a successful experience Thus, for the third time in a row, I placed my order with Bombay Electronics The return pipeline was already full because Amazon refused to try again (since two players were already in the return process). The unit was sent quickly by Bombay Electronics, and I received it within four days of placement of my The advice I would give Bombay Electronics is the place to go if you want one of these, and to avoid the difficulties that I had with Amazon's faulty inventory. In closing, I can say that when I received the unit, I was pleased to note a large label on the front side of the box (see photo) stating The items were all in the box as they should have been in there. A single-button control is included in the package A two-page sheet of detailed, clear instructions that explain in clear, concise language how to use the REGION FREE features - and it works! It has worked out exactly as it should! I'm so happy! For The Win, Bombay Electronics!.
My Oppo BDP was broken so I bought this to replace it It was suspected that the Blu Ray player had trouble decoding DTS from the Blu Ray disc. My goal was to upgrade to a 4K UHD since I now have a television that supports it, yet I wanted it to still be region free. It has only been this weekend that I have had much chance to play with it. There is only one issue for me, and it is a big one for me. HD Master DTS X can't be decoded at all, it just drops down to The channel has one Among my collection of Blu Ray concert disks, David Gilmore live from Pompeii is by far my favorite. There is a HD Master DTS X 7 soundtrack to this recording. With a good audio/visual system, you will just be blown away. I set up my Oppo again and it is working great again. It is the standard by which all other sound systems should be measured. The picture on the Sony is also quite good, I just watched Dead Pool 2 last night in UHD and the picture is stunning. This player is still highly recommended.
I purchased it because it works well with 3D movies, so I have used it quite often. As of right now, there are no 4K movies on my computer. Currently I have one on order, but it won't arrive *I won't know how well that works until then, since Battle Angel 4K/3D combo). In my opinion, that may or may not be an issue for me as I am far more interested in how well it works with 3D and to date it is more advanced than even my Sony 6500 that I purchased from Bombay a few years ago and still The multi-pack I purchased is not what I thought it was As 99% of the movies I buy come from the UK and/or Germany, I have to have a region player. It is still a big 3D market there with tons of 3D Steelbooks around.
A DVD may not be played by this product if it is in region B or C.
Player of great skill. This DVD player plays all DVD region codes. Switching from Blu-ray to DVD In order to select the regions of the ray, use the color buttons on the remote while the unit is ON and the tray is out. Make sure you upgrade your HDMI cable if you are buying a new player since you will be replacing an old Your picture will be flickering rapidly, or you will see a "snowy" picture, or it will be "green". Upgrade your HDMI cable to a 4K18Gbps cable if you are experiencing any of these issues. You shouldn't need to change any settings on your TV or with this player in order to get rid of "deep color" TV and HDR issues. The picture and sound are of excellent quality. Everything, including 3D, works well. Using Terminator 2 Region B, I was able to experience the following A 3D disc of Judgement Day and a 4K HDR Lord of the Rings release Disc from the Return of the King. This test was done on an LG OLED 3D 2016. The unit is great. I'm very pleased with it. A Sony X700 player is included in the box, as well as a manual, remote, 2 AAA batteries, a 120/220 adapter, and 6 feet of cable. A 4K HDMI cable is included.
It was wonderful to return the difficult to set up Panasonic 4K ultra HD player when this unit turned out to be so easy to use. The quality of the picture is equally excellent on BluRay and DVD in Region A. Then again, this is just my initial testing with a couple of disc movies, so it may be too early to identify other problems, like freezes, that some have reported. In terms of fit and finish and operation, the unit lives up to expectations. If this unit performs as well as my PS 3, I hope its dependability and longevity will hold up as well.
