The UBP- HI-FI is available on the X700. AUDIO FROM REZ The x700 is smaller and less well-made. In terms of build quality and size, the X800 is a small step up, but in terms of performance, it's about the same pound for pound. At the moment, the X800 does not support Dolby Vision, but I'm not sure why. It's possible that Sony will include it in the future.

It's a good 4K player that's simple to use
4/5

UBP-Sony UBP-Sony The former UBP-X700 has been replaced by the X700. X800. The new player is smaller and lighter than the previous model. It's roughly the same size as the latest Sony Blu-ray player. players who use rays It produces a solid 4K picture that appears to have come from a more expensive player. br>br> It's very easy to set up. For the most part, all you have to do is pick a language and configure your wireless connection. Most users will find that the default settings are adequate. br>br>The operation is simple: when the opening screen appears, press the open/eject button, insert your disc, and then press PLAY. br>br>There are two HDMI outputs on this 4K player-- One is for audio/video, and the other is just for audio. If you're using a receiver with this player, this is extremely useful. br>br>Sony has packed the X700-D with cutting-edge video technology. Dolby Vision is a technology that allows you to see things in three dimensions It creates a more vivid and contrasted image, but it is not included out of the box. To get this technology, which was not available on the previous model, the X800, you must update Sony's latest firmware. br>br>With the X700, there are a few minor issues. The user interface is excellent
3/5

Good user interface, lots of options, and simple to set up. The only thing I don't like about it is the included power supply adapter. Like most people, I installed this player in an entertainment center with a power strip in the back to plug in all of the A/V equipment's poser cords. That power adapter is so big that it blocks the power outlets next to it.

A player that supports Dolby Vision at a reasonable price!   ERRATA: Dolby Vision does not turn off for non-Dolby Vision devices, as I previously stated
5/5

Dolby Vision movies are movies that have been enhanced with Dolby Digital technology. Currently, it does not do so, and the feature must be turned off manually. I'm hoping that this will be fixed in future versions. br>br>At long last, this player has checked all the boxes: With a free firmware update, it's affordable, capable, and supports Dolby Vision. br>br>The player itself is flimsy, similar to the sub-$100 commoditized players sold in department stores by Sony and others. However, the visual quality is excellent, and Dolby Vision will deliver even better visuals if your movie and television both support the HDR format. With a relatively quiet operation and a smattering of apps that are almost certainly already installed on your TV, the player performs admirably. Blu- Blu-ray movies are quick to load and playback. br>br>More information can be found in the video review attached.

Not Recommended for Streaming! It freezes, and Sony is preventing you from using certain features
3/5

For a Blu-ray player, all you have to do is turn it on and off. It's "OK" with Ray Disc. br>br>This will not stream reliably; after a few days or about 20 hours of streaming, it will completely hang and must be unplugged and replugged before it can be used again. Second, it's a shame that Sony is using its products to limit competitor functionality. I have Hulu Live, and guess what? Sony has a policy of blocking live streaming! I'm disappointed that Amazon would list this item without an asterisk.

The screen flashes and the unit reboots, despite the fact that it is a brand new unit
3/5

similar to what has been reported by others. As a result, I made the mistake of ignoring some of the warnings from other buyers of this "unit. " I've had good luck with Sony in the past, so I decided to take a chance; however, everything that has been reported in other reviews has occurred on the unit I received today. When I first booted up, it said there was an update - It went through the update process without a hitch and eventually got to the menu screen (despite the fact that there was no DVD in the drive). I began to go over the settings to ensure that everything was set up properly for my home theater. Several times during my default menu navigation, the lower half to lower third of the screen flashed white. The device then rebooted and returned to the menu screen, repeating the process every few minutes. I tried playing some Youtube videos and they seemed to work fine, but when I inserted a Blu Ray and started watching my movie, the unit stopped and rebooted, then returned to where it was on the DVD after about 10 seconds. This happened a few more times before it simply froze and went black, and my Stereo Receiver's display indicated that it had simply stopped putting out an audio or video signal. I'm going to return it as soon as possible and replace it with something that works. Goodbye, Sony; I'll miss our times together in the past.

Lockups occur frequently, necessitating the removal of power in order to reset
3/5

Whether I'm watching an OTT video or a DVD, it locks up every few hours. It will simply freeze on the image of whatever source I'm watching at any time. At that point, the unit is completely unresponsive, and the only way to fix it is to pull the power cable. The firmware is up to date. I'm hoping Sony will address this issue as soon as possible. I've reached the end of Amazon's return period.

It's a real steal
5/5

It is impossible to make a mistake here. It simply does what it says on the tin. It's brilliant that there's a separate audio output. If you haven't yet invested in an Atmos sound system (and who hasn't? ), now is the time. You can connect to your existing audio via the separate HDMI port. The controls are straightforward, and if your smart television is up to the task (and who isn't? ), who isn't? The TV remote can be used to control some functions. PS. Check to see if you're getting the x-ray version. The 800 is an older model that lacks the Dolby Vision upgrade (which can be done over the internet) and lacks the built-in WiFi.

Excellent performer
5/5

It's a breeze to set up and use. I've discovered that 4K UHD discs must be spotless or else they will skip and freeze. So I clean the disc before putting it in each time, and there are no problems.
