Questions & Answers

What's the difference between a plug and a wire?

Speaker wire and speaker wire plugs (not required)

Will this receiver play music through its speakers and wireless headphones (Bose QC35) at the same time?

You can send and receive audio, and unless you explicitly mute the speakers, sending to headphones will play audio from both the speakers and the headphones. Before the bluetooth transmit option appeared, I had to install a firmware update (the firmware update can be found under the "network" settings).

Is it possible to watch Season 11 of Heartland on this website?

What?

Is it equipped with HDMI pass-through technology, allowing me to listen to my source without having to turn on the receiver?

Yes. Standby HDMI pass-through is the name of the feature. through. As a result, RX V485 has that capability. If you prefer, you can disable it and just use the TV speakers.

There is no option for a B speaker! Last night, I received the receiver and set it up
4/5

It appears to be effective. It wasn't until after I had set up the 5 that I realized what had happened. One system that I discovered does not have A B speaker options with my television. I planned to use the B speaker setting for my lanai (as they're known in Florida) speakers, which were already installed by the previous owner. br>br>Back in the day, all good receivers had an option for an A B speaker. The only ones that didn't work were the low-cost, low-quality receivers. I didn't think about the fact that this receiver didn't have a B speaker option because, based on the literature and reviews, I assumed it wasn't a low-end receiver of dubious quality. Now I'm curious if this is considered low-end, and if so, what else might have been sacrificed to get to this price point. It appears to have good output, and instead of hanging speakers on the walls, I had decent Yamaha speakers installed into the walls. A more expensive receiver is unlikely to improve sound quality. br>br>I doubt that having an A B speaker option would have added much to the receiver's cost. I understand that bluetooth speakers are popular, but that does not rule out the fact that many homes have wired speakers outside, and that a new receiver buyer would not want or need the A B speaker option. br>br>The more I think about it, the more I believe I'll have to return this receiver and start looking for one with an A B speaker option. It wouldn't surprise me if I could find a receiver with the same quality, features, and price that also had the A B speaker option. This is a customer that Yamaha may have lost.

The audio quality is excellent, but there are a few flaws
3/5

On the plus side, the receiver's sound quality is excellent for the price, and it supports wireless rear speakers (MusicCast speakers) and has a variety of audio processing options. br>br>On the downside, due to overcrowding, setup was extremely difficult. The User's Manual was simplified, and multiple setup devices were added, but the Net Radio function was found to have serious flaws: br>br>1) The phone apps that are required to set up and operate the Receiver are difficult to understand. They're known as "MusicCast Controller" and "Yamaha AV Controller" on Google Airplay. However, once you've installed the apps on your phone, they'll need to be reinstalled. They go by the names "MusicCast" and "AV Controller. " The setup app is referred to as "MusicCast Controller" in the User's Manual, so if you forget what it was called before installation, you'll have to do some trial and error to figure out if you've installed the correct apps and, if so, which one to use for setup. This was true for both the RX- and the RX-S. The MusicCast-20 speakers and the V485 receiver. br>br>2) Because iOS does everything differently, there should be a separate set of instructions for iPhone users, not mixed in with the others. br>br>3) While the majority of the receiver's input functions work fine, the Net Radio feature has a serious software design flaw that makes Net Radio extremely unreliable. Stations will play fine for a short time before the receiver locks up and displays the "Access Error" message. There's nothing you can do after that, from changing the station to changing and re-changing the station. This problem can be solved by selecting the "Net Radio" input. It will only correct itself if you turn the receiver completely off and on again (re-set the receiver). boot). Yes, all of the firmware on all of the devices is "up to date," and my router is in the same room as the receiver, only 15 feet away – a solid 4 bars signal. It's most likely caused by a temporary overload on the streaming server, which happens quite frequently with streaming services. However, rather than attempting to re-create the situation, The receiver software simply freezes in an unrecoverable error mode after establishing the stream. This is not the receiver for you if you enjoy listening to Internet radio streaming content, at least until the software is updated to fix the problem. br>br>4) Unfortunately, the receiver User's Manual does not cover how to connect, or even if you should connect, your Yamaha audio system (receiver and MusicCast speakers) to your router's 5 GHz WiFi band, where they would likely perform better than on the lower 2. All other home network devices are found in the 4 GHz band. In fact, the User's Manual makes no mention of connecting to a higher-speed band; perhaps 5 Ghz isn't supported, but it could have helped with the Net Radio streaming issue, who knows.

There aren't any Bluetooth headphones, which is a shame
4/5

Be aware that the Bluetooth feature is only available when the device is plugged in. You can use Bluetooth sources to play music, but you can't use Bluetooth headphones to listen to music. That makes me a little disappointed. This is the third Yamaha receiver I've owned. I was unable to locate my RX- Although I lost V671 in the divorce, I gained 4k with this one, so yay! Like the others, it makes a lot of noise. The setup menu is a little lacking, but all-in-all, it's a good product. For the price, it's a good deal all around.

Make sure the output is correct! The sound and functionality are excellent
4/5

Despite my familiarity with AV equipment, I had some difficulty correctly configuring the functions. Numerous decoders, source options, and hidden features/options in the various devices that work together but must be set up separately aggravate the situation. The number of incoming channels and signal information are displayed in this receiver's source info option. This is how I discovered my TV could only output two channels of audio, and it took me a long time to figure out what was wrong. br>br>Every television is a little different; However, I wanted to warn anyone who thinks they have everything set up correctly only to have the receiver "upscale" or decode audio from a two-channel source into a five-channel source. Make sure you know how to configure the audio output so that the receiver can receive a multichannel signal. Setting an option to bitstream instead of PCM and then selecting DOBY DIGITAL from another menu option (from the TV options) were the steps I took. After that, the receiver's "signal info" displayed multichannel, and I proceeded to choose the proper signal management from the receiver. br>br>Once everything is set up correctly, the sound is fantastic – especially for the price of this unit. I wanted to make people aware that if they have less experience, they should use the signal info feature to ensure they have a proper setup, because without it, I would have had no way of knowing what was wrong and would have assumed the receiver was broken. The unit did not come with a manual, and the important information needed to set it up correctly is hidden away. There are no separate subwoofer volume controls – it's either on or off. Otherwise, I'm very pleased with the sound, and the receiver works in tandem with the TV's functions, turning on when the TV does and turning off only with the TV remote.
