You can hear it well outside the boat if you park it on a sandbar and place it on the dash; that's how we use ours, and it saves our boat battery. You can still hear it if you're cruising at a low speed, but it's not very pleasant, and at higher speeds, the engine and wind noise will drown it out. I hope this helps.
JVF and I are together in this room. One of the reasons I chose this model is that it does not have this feature. My current speaker does, and it irritates me because it cuts the music out every time a call comes in (then I fumble to turn off the BT on my phone so I can answer the call without everyone within 100 feet dropping). Thank you so much, JBL!
There isn't a microphone on this speaker. The JBL flip 4 had this feature, but the JBL flip 5 does not.
That is something you should inquire about with the manufacturer.

After reading a few reviews where people were upset about the speaker's emotional aspects, I decided to give it a try. It will not connect to their Flip 4 speakers, for example. Whatever. I ignored it and am glad I chose the number five. The audio is of exceptional quality. The bass response and battery life are both superior to the 4, and at the same price point of $100, it's a no-brainer. In every way, the Flip 5 is the best model. I had high hopes for this speaker, but he far exceeded them. The volume on this speaker is ridiculously high - and crisp, to boot. I work in an automotive shop and keep my volume at 25% my station at 25% my station at 25% my station at 25% my station at 25% my station at 25% my station at I couldn't be happier with the sound and the overall quality. I strongly advise you to do so.
The speaker is extremely loud in its own right. As you can see in the video, I've only turned it up halfway and the speakers on the side are bouncing. It's simple to advance the song by pressing the play button twice (double tap). The only thing you can't do is go back and change it. I can put my phone away and still adjust the volume by pressing the speaker's buttons. My speaker is protected by a case, which is the RichSmile Silicone Carrying Travel Case for JBL FLIP 5 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker. The sound that comes out of this thing is unaffected even with the case on. I have not tested the waterproofness of this, but I have taken it to the beach and to the mountains, and the sound quality is incredible. It's simple to connect to any type of phone or tablet. I'm blown away by this speaker's sound quality.
So far, I'm really enjoying it. Have the flip 4 and charge 3 on hand, and this one will take care of both. It's slightly larger than the Flip 4, but not by much, and it produces a well-balanced sound.
This tiny speaker is a force to be reckoned with! I'm driving a truck down the road, and some of the other company trucks have poor signal. This device has saved the music industry's life! Even with the rig's windows rolled down, it's loud. It doesn't matter if you're listening to country or rock music; this thing is top-notch. RECOMMENDED WITHOUT HEsitation. I haven't tested the speaker's waterproof capabilities yet, but I'm so impressed with the sound quality and battery life that I gave it a five-star rating overall.
It can only be used with other JBL PartyBoost speakers. JBL PartyBoost is used by the Flip 5, while JBL Connect is used by other recent JBL speakers. As a result, you won't be able to connect the Flip 5 to any other JBL speaker (until JBL releases new speakers with PartyBoost technology). I'm disappointed because that's why I bought the Flip 5 in the first place (and waited for it to come out). For more information, go to JBL's website and look at the Flip 5 question and answer page. If you don't mind not being able to connect the speaker to your other JBL speakers, it produces excellent sound.
If you just need a good sounding portable speaker with a lot of bass and no wires, this is a good option, but if you don't mind not having a JBL tag, there are far better sounding units for less money. However, they claim that if you buy two, one can be configured for left channel operation and the other for right channel operation. Forget about it. It's difficult to begin with because you must first download a special "JBL connect" app. Because the speakers keep defaulting to mono mode, it's necessary to reset them each time. Finally, in order to use this piece of crap software, you must first agree to TWO (2) completely separate licensing agreements, each of which is about 1000 pages long and describes all of the snooping they plan to do regarding when you use the speakers, other connected devices, and where you are physically when you use them. br>br>Finally, in order to actually use this piece of crap software, you must first agree to TWO (2) completely separate licensing agreements, each of which is about 1000 pages long and describes all Please explain why a very basic utility program used only to reset default settings on something you just purchased suddenly requires the same licensing and usage monitoring as purchasing MSWord or Excel in the most recent Federal Budget!br>br>Please explain why a very basic utility program used only to reset default settings on something you just purchased suddenly requires the same licensing and usage monitoring as purchasing MSWord or Excel in the most recent Federal Budget! br>br>Saving your money is a good idea, and don't blame me if you think I'm exaggerating.
In the Flip5, I don't see (or hear) anything better; In fact, it appears to be going the wrong way. The speaker is a monophonic unit. Who's up for some MONO music? It can only be used with other Flip5s or Partyboost. 100 or more speakers can be connected! (Why? If you're into that sort of thing, which I'm not, there's also no voice assistant or speakerphone connectivity. I bought it for some very important people. I had high hopes for the sound quality, but I was sorely disappointed. I will be back the next day.
It is not possible to use it as a speakerphone.
