How Our Score Is Calculated

Product Description

With the GlobalFIX marine distress EPIRB, you can use multiple built-in redundancies to dramatically increase your chances of survival at sea. A robust internal GPS within the GlobalFIX V4 will pinpoint your exact location and broadcast it via a powerful 406 MHz distress signal to any Search and Rescue team around the globe.
In order for this EPIRB to work, it must be registered to a vessel with an MMSI number from the United States. As it will work anywhere in the world, the initial point of contact during an emergency would be the US Search and Rescue authorities with whom the PLB is Australia and New Zealand are not suitable for use of this EPIRB or its registration
Please purchase our alternative listing for 'Programmed for Rest of World' if you require registration outside of the US. Upon submitting this alternative listing we will offer at no additional charge the service of reprogramming the unit so that it can be registered in the country of your choice. Please note that the EPIRB must be registered in the country where the MMSI for the vessel is registered.
It is mandatory in most countries to register an EPIRB. You should register in case your beacon ever needs to be used, or if your location is ever discovered. If your beacon is activated, it will be how Search and Rescue Teams know who you are, and contacts on your registration form may be able to supply specific details about your It may take longer to initiate a search and rescue if this information is lacking.
Using this EPIRB should only be performed in situations of grave and imminent danger to life. False alerts may cause immense costs to Search and Rescue agencies as well as endanger lives. In the event of deliberate misuse of the device, the user might face a fine.

Questions & Answers

Is this unit automatically activated when it hits the water or does it need to be manually switched on?

Please note that Cat 2 EPIRBs require manual activation in the event of a sinking vessel. It is possible to prevent false activations of the keypad by using a protective cover. I am grateful for your help

Do you think the unit can be tested for functionality?

Despite the test button, you should not test with the activation button because it will cause the CG to appear.

The product appears to be waterproof, but what if the boat sinks and you're waiting on a ?

Depending on which model you purchase (Cat 2), the unit will either activate when it is placed directly in water or when manually switched on. This unit is waterproof and floats upright so that you receive the best signal possible from the antenna once it is removed. As it is, this unit will not self-deploy, so be aware that if you do not have the correct mounting system and your boat sinks, this will leave your boat as well, unless you remove the unit from its mounting system.

I can vouch for the effectiveness of this product
5/5

You will appreciate what I have to say. Today, as I was painting the center console of our boat and cleaning the hull, I removed mine from its cradle, and somehow, it got wet from overspray from the hose, and it triggered. The coast guard, my mother, my oldest son all called me at the same time and I didn't realize it (it was the middle of the day so I didn't see the lights and the beeping isn't very audible) until I went to check my phone. I messed up. In any case, it's great to know you can save yourself by following directions.

We run East Grand Traverse Bay, which can be 600' deep in spots, so I bought this for my boat to have! It is essential to have safety equipment in case of an emergency.
