Questions & Answers

Is it compatible with the Wahoo Kickr app?

I bought it for the kickr and have been using it without problems for the past four months.

I'm looking for a compatible Garmin ant for my Forerunner 235. Are you willing to assist me?

I've been using mine for zwift and it's been a good experience.

Hello, how far is this stick's range? I'm guessing it's around 6 meters. However, I require a greater range of movement. Is there a different way to do it? thanks?

The Garmin ANT stick has a 16-mile range. 5 meters (4 feet) ANT is a low-power, short-range wireless communication system. If at all possible, use Bluetooth, which will provide you with significantly more range.

Selected User Reviews For Garmin USB ANT Stick for Garmin Fitness Devices & 010-12843-00 Speed Sensor 2, Bike Sensor to Monitor Speed, Black

For Zwift, this was exactly what I needed! I purchased this device in order to connect my Garmin HR, cadence, and speed sensors to my laptop so that I could use the Zwift app (game) on both my laptop and Android phone
5/5

The USB device worked right out of the box and synced up with my ANT devices right away. When I first installed the Zwift software, it immediately recognized my sensors and asked for the model of trainer I was using so it could estimate power (watts) based on the speed data. After a week of use, everything is going well! br>br>Recent changes: br>br> It's still going strong after two years of use!.

It works perfectly - Until it doesn't because of a design flaw
3/5

This is the second time I've used a Garmin mini-computer. I'm having problems with my USB ant stick. Each of them has lasted anywhere from one to ten years. 2 years. It is fantastic when it works. There were no dropouts while using Trainerroad with my powermeter pedals connected to my laptop. Because it's small, I can leave it plugged in unless I need the USB port.

. As a result, I've discovered a flaw in the design. Because the housing is only half the size of a standard USB device, the connector isn't very durable. I'm not sure if this is due to repeated removal and reinsertion, or if it's because I leave the stick in while carrying my laptop around and it gets stressed in my backpack. My laptop, however, eventually stops recognizing the stick in both instances of failure. I can get the stick to work again after fiddling with it, but the intervals of usability diminish quickly, and eventually, no matter how many times I remove and reinsert the stick, apply pressure, reseat the chip in the connector housing, and so on, my laptop will not recognize it. br>br>It's frustrating because I believe Garmin could solve this issue if they used the more traditional connector style. I just bought a generic stick with the tried-and-true design. USB connector that is tried and true - I'm hoping it will last longer than two years and perform as well as this version (when it works).

Android 4 and Garmin USB ANT Stick On the LG Nexus 5, there are four of them
5/5

With my LG Nexus 5 phone, I've had great success using this Garmin USB ANT stick. To connect it to your phone, you'll need a USB OTG (on the go) adaptor, which does add some tech to the equation. Adding bulk to your running setup is a good idea. I eventually purchased an armband case and modified it to allow the USB OTG cable to exit from the bottom and clip to the headphone elastic loop. br>br>Here's how I set things up:
- The LG Google Nexus 5 (Android 4. 1. 2) is a smartphone developed by LG. 4)
- ANT Drivers (available for free in the Google Play Store)br> - Endomondo is a fitness app that allows you to track your progress. br> Adapter for USB OTG 6" cablebr> - USB ANT Stick by Garminbr> - Garmin soft-shell case strap ANT Heart Rate Monitorbr>br>With this combination, I can get accurate HRM integration for my runs, and communication between the HRM and the ANT stick has never been an issue. br>br>The device itself is small, resembling a "thumbnail" drive profile; the four contact leads are fully exposed, and there is no full shield surrounding the plug area, so I'd be concerned if I were constantly plugging and unplugging it from a computer. It was a one-time deal for me. plugin for the passage of time Because the device isn't designed to be used outside, you'll need to cover the connection or keep it in a case if you're using it with a mobile device like I am. I used waterproof heatshrink to seal the ANT stick/USB OTG cable connection, and it worked perfectly in light rain. br>br>I'm looking into getting the Garmin Foot Pod (for ANT) to use with my workout to incorporate a stride sensor. If I do, I'll let you know how it goes.

In Zwift, ANT connectivity is rock solid
5/5

Let's go, MacBook Pro! Let's get started with Windows 10 on the desktop! I was Zwifting in minutes after plugging it in, logging into Zwift, and pedaling a couple of revolutions to wake up the sensors. br>br>I did purchase an extension USB cable and used a Velcro cable keeper to secure it to the chain stay near the ANT cadence/speed sensor (this is not required). So far, in over 100 miles of Zwifting, there have been no dropouts. All sensors, including heart rate, were continuously registered by Zwift without issue. I haven't tried it at a distance by directly plugging the stick into the computer to see how far it will go. But I doubt I'd have any problems there either, because it still picks up my heart rate strap when I'm not on the bike and sit at the computer. As a result, the distance between them is effectively the same. approximately 9 feet I've even left the room and returned, and when I returned, it was still registering my heart rate. There was no need to re-acquire because it was already there.

Without a USB ANT stick, the fitness device connects to my Bluetooth phone perfectly
3/5

Garmin is being deceptive by requiring this adapter despite the fact that my computer is Bluetooth compatible. Without a USB ANT stick, the fitness device connects to my Bluetooth phone perfectly. Garmin appears to have figured out a way to make a few extra bucks without adding any value.

Works well with TrainerRoad, but the range is a bit limited
4/5

This gets the job done, but there's a catch. I'm using OSX, and I couldn't get the native Garmin ANT Agent to detect my HRM and cadence sensor for the life of me. Fortunately, I purchased it specifically for use with TrainerRoad cycling software, and TR quickly recognized both of my devices. The selection appears to be lacking - Despite a direct line of sight between my devices and the USB stick, TR reports the signal quality as "Poor" when my trainer is about 5 feet away from a Mac Mini. I also have an Edge 500, so I took a 20-foot walk away from both the Edge and the Mac to see what would happen. While the USB stick lost contact with the HRM, the Edge continued to track my heart rate. br>br>Overall, it accomplishes its objectives, though the range could be expanded and the software implementation could be improved. The ANT agent should be simple to pair with devices, but it may be a source of frustration for those who do not use it with third-party software designed specifically for it. Aside from that, it performs admirably.
