Questions & Answers

What is the difference between the APC 8 outlet power strip and the Axtra 8- outlet power strip? What is a power strip with outlets?

If this is the one you're talking about, it's as follows: AXTRA 8- Power Strip with USB Charging Port and Metal Surge Protector, 9 Outlets Heavy on the feet- 1500 Joules, 15-foot Heavy Duty Extension Cord [ETL Listed] Amp Circuit Breaker for Home, Office, School, Smartphone, and Tablet. The APC has a 90-degree plug, which I find much better for hiding behind furniture, etc. It also comes with a $100k Equip warranty and 2630 joules versus 1800. The APC, like the AXTRA, is less expensive and does an excellent job. The AXTRA claims to be made of metal, while the APC claims to be made of plastic. The overall rating of APC is slightly higher. In the vast majority of cases, either one will suffice.

What is the difference between axtra 8-hour and axtra 8-hour? Is it possible to connect a power strip to this product?

Well, I have it under my desk, and the holes in the outlets are ideal for various connections, as appliance connectors now come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Is the clamping voltage less than or equal to 300 volts?

Thank you for getting in touch with us. The P8U2 has a surge protection rating of 2630 Joules.

What is the length of the power cord?

8 feet or 2 feet 4 m

In terms of appearance - good
3/5

In terms of electricity It's fine. I was offered a free APC P8U2 Surge Arrest for review about a month ago, and I accepted. br>br>For the past 30 years, I've been a computer nerd. Many lessons have been learned over the years, from when my first Commodore 64 failed to when I sold and serviced the original IBM PC and Apple Macintosh computers - back in the days when they were worth tens of thousands of dollars Computers are made up of delicate electronics, and if the power they receive isn't reliable and consistent, bad things can happen. A good surge protector is required at the very least for everyone. A power strip is not one of them. A surge protector, to be precise. One that has EMI/RFI filtering, a fast response time, low clamping values, and a high joules rating is preferred. br>br>I can't tell you how many PCs I've seen damaged or completely fried over the years because people didn't know about or simply didn't buy a good surge protector. It's also a common misconception that it's only useful for dealing with extreme events like lightning strikes, which is simply not the case. - Every time your refrigerator, air conditioner, vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, or other similar device cycles on. any appliance that uses a lot of energy - They cause a strong current to flow through them. On your home's electrical circuits, this first causes a drop, then a spike. If your computer or television, for example, is turned on and unprotected, it will be harmed every time this occurs. Eventually, those minor blows add up to a significant amount of damage. Your computer may begin to crash and become unstable seemingly out of nowhere. Many people attribute this to the computer rather than a lack of basic electrical protection. Of course, there are a variety of factors that can cause a computer to crash, but having a good surge protector eliminates or greatly reduces at least one of them. If you live in an apartment building, your situation is made more difficult by the fact that you may be subjected to the whims of a number of high-powered individuals. drew electrical appliances that you have no control over. Physically, the APC P8U2 has a great design that incorporates a lot of improvements over traditional surge protector strips. Four evenly spaced outlets to accommodate direct plug-in of power transformers, as well as a rotating power plug for easier cord management. Dust and debris are kept out of unused outlets with sliding covers. A recessed power switch makes it more difficult to trip by accident. In addition, the P8U2 has two 5V USB power outlets that are both protected. The P8U2 has a built-in wiring fault indicator that will test the electrical outlet you plug it into for proper wiring polarity and ground, allowing you to charge your phone, tablet, or any other USB-powered device directly. However, just like a car, the outside appearance and amenities are less important than what's on the inside. br>br>Electrically, I think the APC P8U2 Surge Arrest is a decent surge protector. It has a good surge response time of less than one nanosecond. It has a decent surge energy rating of 2630 Joules. It does, however, have a line to neutral (L-1) for clamping voltage. N) 400V line-to-ground (L-G) rating G) a 500V rating and a neutral to ground (N-G) connection. G) has a 500V rating. Those are excessively high numbers. Lower L-values are associated with better surge protectors. N, L- G and N- The voltage ratings are in G. The L- Because the surge protector is rated at 400V, it will not activate until a surge of 280VAC occurs. You want your surge protector to activate at a voltage lower than 280VAC, which is more than twice the nominal 120VAC. Look for surge protectors that have an L-shaped connector. A N rating of 300V or less is required. Despite the importance of clamping voltage values, they are not always listed in online specifications; I looked at many models on the APC website and couldn't find any with clamping voltage values listed. However, they are commonly listed on the back of the physical surge protector - If you're shopping online, a good uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is a better option. br>br>If you need more protection than a surge protector, I recommend a good UPS. I've previously owned APC UPS units, but now I own two.

During a power outage, the system did not work
3/5

In late 2016, I purchased this to protect my home entertainment system. A thunderstorm struck in early July 2017, causing a power outage and a surge. Everything connected to this device (LED TV, Blu-ray player, etc. ) was fried by the surge. Surround sound system, Blu-ray player, DirecTV, and internet modem). The cost of replacement and repairs for the damage exceeded $1000. The surge protector continues to protect devices, indicating that it has never tripped. This gadget is completely useless.

Overall, it's a nice unit, but the sockets aren't very deep
5/5

A couple of quick observations: Overall, a nice unit, with enough socket spacing for multiple "wall-mounted" devices to be plugged in. Transformers in the "wart" style. The USB power plugs are convenient, and they appear to provide sufficient power for phones and tablets, as evidenced by a test.

It works fine, and the plugs are as tight as they are on most APC power strips
5/5

First and foremost, customers claim that the outlets aren't deep enough for standard plugs; however, in the video that a customer allegedly verified this, she appears to be barely applying any pressure to the plug. I've been using APC strips for years, and several of their models have extremely tight outlets at first; all you have to do is push it in hard enough. Failed circuitry as a result of a power surge is unquestionably a problem. I've never had a problem with that, and I live in an area with a very active storm season, so fingers crossed. APC has always worked well for me, and this one appears to be made in the same way as others I've bought.

This is a fantastic, no-frills unit
4/5

This is a good unit that doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, is reasonably priced, and comes from a reputable power protection company. There are more expensive units available, and if you need/want HDMI/Phone/Internet cable protection, this isn't the unit for you, but it does have two protected USB ports and a high Joules rating. The plugs are secure, and the cord's ability to rotate at the power strip allows for a variety of cord options that are both flexible and clean. It also disconnects your devices from power in the event of a large surge, whereas others may allow power to pass through with reduced protection after the surge. It also has a green LED that will illuminate if the protection has been compromised in any way over time or during a surge; while I've read that these types of indicators should not be completely trusted, it's another visual piece of mind. If the LED indicator on the unit fails, the unit will be replaced under warranty, according to APC. It'll also let you know if there's an issue with the outlet wiring. The only nitpick I have is that it would be nice if the unit had more spacing between the plugs; it seems these days no two companies can agree on how they want to do their plugs/powerboxes; some are long inline with the cord, others are square, and other devices just have a normal prong cord. br>br>Another thing to keep in mind with these is that their protection is limited over time. Think of it as a bucket of water; one really big.
