The fact that my desk top is a butcher block counter top that is 1 inch thick prompted me to order this. The thickness of this sheet is 5". My last monitor arm when I built the desk would not clamp to the desk because it would not adjust that wide (there is no way I could drill a hole through top of it). If I clamp the "smallest" setup to my desk, I can still use it I am sure it could even clamp on something much bigger, since the clamp assembly has extra holes for adjusting it more widely. The second requirement was that I need the monitor to be centered on the desk (which is 6' wide) but that I can easily swing it out of the way when clients are talking to me from the other side of the desk during tax season. I have accomplished my mission! With the exception of a screwdriver, the only tool not included in the kit, I assembled it in less than 15 minutes.

I have received two different items one is the one I originally purchased, and the other was my replacement (when I returned it). When I first got it, the Gas Spring on it should have allowed for height adjustment, but it was too tight, so there was no height adjustment possible A changeable situation. I requested a replacement for this defective item (since I considered it damaged). It is good that you can get a replacement service from Amazon (not sure if you should thank the seller). It still has the same problem after I got it replaced. Although it finally did work after a very long time, I should say that I worked extremely hard for it. Probably some special tools such as an Electric Screwdriver may be able to help in this regard. However, if you set up the tool that came with it, it's far more difficult.

There is no way that the gas spring will With the hex screw completely loosened and tightened, I've tried both. When it is flipped to +, I am able to lower it 2 inches and it is extremely loose, but it won't lower any further, and it is nowhere close to being able to make the arm As I turn the hex screw to the end, it will come to a stop. Whenever I turn the screw, it slowly raises the arm up by 2 inches. As soon as it turns all the way to the left It is impossible for me to move the arm at all. The arm is basically locked in the "up" position just as it came out of the box, so we cannot move it either way, it can't be moved. Since this thing is junk, I guess I'll use the stand that came with my monitor so that at least my screen will be Buy this product at your own risk.
