Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use this on two computers at the same time? I'm not sure if the splitter cable I ordered earlier will work, so I'd like to double-check before I buy. ?

Hello! Yes, you can connect two or more computers to the GS305 / GS316 and use them simultaneously.

It's listed as a switch and a hub in this listing, but there's a big difference between the two. Is this a switch or a hub, and which one is it? "netgear 5" is a network device. What is giga port?

It's a "smart" hub, in my opinion. I have the unmanaged 8-port switch, and it simply forwards whatever you have to it. It will keep segmentation on your network if you have it.

Cat 8 cables are being used. Is this a viable option? What other switch do I require if this is not the case?

CAT- 8 or CAT- 5. They're all compatible with RJ45 connectors. CAT- CAT- CAT- CAT- CAT- CAT- CAT- CAT- CAT- CAT- CAT- CAT- Because 8 cables are more powerful and efficient than CAT-II cables, they can handle higher speeds (electron flow) with less interference. 5 cables.
CAT- As previously stated, 8 is recommended for extremely fast devices.

Should this connect to an arris tg1672g without any configuration on either side? a 4- Gigabit router with multiple ports "Doesn't seem to be working for me?" ?

The following is how your setup should look: br>br>(Internet) Cable (Internet) Cable (Internet) Cable (Internet) Cable (Internet) Cable (Internet) Cable (Internet) Cable (Internet > ARRIS TG1672G - ARRIS TG1672G - ARRIS TG1672G > 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ports - > 8th Generation Netgear Your Cable Modem has 4 Gigabit Ethernet Ports, and when you connect the Netgear 8-Port Switch, you have a total of 8 Gigabit Ethernet Ports. Two ports (one on the cable modem) are lost when you switch ports. one on the Netgear, and instead of four Gigabit Ethernet ports, you'll have ten. There is no need to configure anything. br>br>If you're adding a Wi-Fi device to the mix, If you're using a Wi-Fi router, your setup will be as follows: br>br>(Internet) Cable (Internet) Cable (Internet) Cable (Internet) Cable (Internet) Cable (Internet) Cable (Internet) Cable (Internet > ARRIS TG1672G - ARRIS TG1672G - ARRIS TG1672G > Port 1 - > Wi- Router for Wireless Internet - > 8th Generation Netgear Switch the ports. If you want all of your devices to be able to see each other, you can connect up to seven of them to the Netgear Router.

Warranties are a load of nonsense - Do not fall for bait and switch tactics! This 8- For $20, I bought a port gigabit ethernet unmanaged switch from Amazon
3/5

A three-year warranty was claimed for the product. After eight months, the switch failed: On any of the ports, there is no output. No reset button exists because the switch is unmanaged. When I contacted tech support, they informed me that I needed to purchase a GearHead support plan in order for them to assist me with phone support. There isn't anything that needs to be fixed. The switch is broken, but it is still under warranty, and it should be replaced. free! The phone tech support plan costs $80 per year. I can get four more of these delivered for that price. But I've already paid for mine, and Netgeat is ripping me off by refusing to replace it under the three-year warranty. This is the sort of nonsense that makes people hate corporations. This is something I anticipate from the phone company, health insurance companies, and credit card companies. But to pull this BS on a customer over a failed $20 transaction is ridiculous. switch? Netgear, you should be ashamed of yourself.

It is always possible to access the management interface
3/5

Be aware that the management interface is visible on all ports of this switch. There appears to be no way to disable this. This switch should not be used in an exposed environment where more than password-based security is required (or if you are unsure how much you can trust the security of inexpensive network gear firmware). br>br>For example, I bought this to put a couple of ports on a VLAN as a pass-through. on the outside of my home router for the Internet connection I wanted to be able to inspect traffic on the other side of my gateway/firewall using the port-mirroring capability. This would free up several ports inside my firewall (which would be configured on a separate VLAN). There is no way to turn off the management interface on those ports that are accessible from outside my firewall. This is by design, according to Netgear. br>br>It's a pretty nice switch if you use it properly secured within your network. It has a lot of nice features for the price, and I expect it to work reliably (I like Netgear equipment in general). In some situations, the management interface's design makes it unusable - As a result, I now have a 3-star rating. level of a star Because this limitation is largely hidden, the extra star was lost. I shouldn't have to conjure up arbitrary security flaws before researching whether or not a potential purchase contains them.

Installing it is simple, but there are a few pointers to keep in mind
5/5

My router, which had four ports, was completely full. Two more ports were required.
So. I had a spare short Ethernet cord, so I took out one of the devices and plugged in the patch cord. br>There is no patch cord included with this device. br>br>I turned on the switch and plugged the patch cord into port 1. Any of the eight ports, it appears, could have been my choice. Port 2 received the cord that I had just removed. In each of the remaining ports from the original eight, I added some new devices that required a hard connection. br>br>Each port has a green light that is steady when it is active but flashes when data is transferred. The light turns off when you turn off the connected device. br>I don't have anything to say about technical support because it was so simple. br>br>Tip: if you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, try using the words " br>One comment made in several reviews by people whose devices died prematurely is that surge protection for the power to these devices is extremely important. These devices can be killed by a minor power surge. To protect the entire modem/router network, I use a battery backup surge protector. br>Wishing you all the best.

This switch is not for you if you need link aggregation, LAG, or LACP
3/5

Because Amazon advertised the switch's ability to aggregate links, I decided to buy it. It doesn't support link aggregation, which is a problem. This switch was purchased solely for the purpose of link aggregation. According to NetGear, the ProSafe Plus switches only support LACP/LAG on models with 16 ports or more. br>br>Amazon is incorrectly advertising it. The switch is in excellent condition. The switch worked right out of the box, Amazon delivered it quickly, and so on.

Aggregation of links is not possible
3/5

This switch was purchased with the intention of supporting Link Aggregation, but it does not. I double-checked with Netgear and came back with the following response:
1. I am unable to register the device. br>2. I am unable to register the device. I haven't been able to locate anyone who can assist me via phone or the community forum.
