Questions & Answers

Do I have the option to plug and play this device from my cable modem to expand my cable wifi range via an Ethernet cable?

It is true. You can either use these Netgear routers as range extenders OR wire them directly into your home to become your primary internet source and modem. It is actually recommended to use the latter method, if your cable modem is basic or your WiFi signal is weaker than it needs to be.

It was a big disappointment when I upgraded to Verizon gigabit internet and was given a subpar modem router. The modem and the router are connected via Ethernet, is that right?

It is true. By attaching a network cable to one of the FiOS router's LAN ports, and the other end to any port on the R7800, you can connect the R7800 to the FiOS router (they don't use modems). Then, configure the R7800 in AP mode, by disabling the WLAN of the FiOS router (not a must, but a bit cleaner). Dedicated IP addresses will be assigned by the FiOS router, whilst wireless access will be supplied by the R7800. I love how it works. A wired connection can be made through the LAN ports of both the FiOS router and the R7800.

What is the 5GHz frequency?

The answer is yes.

For about 120 days, it was decent, but then it It remained good until it reached the end of its 90 day warranty
3/5

Towards the end of November I bought this, and everything went well. After that issue, I began to have wifi drops and eventually the LAN ports would not work properly. When I call support, they tell me that my hardware is in perfect working order and that it's a router software problem. I have a warranty that has expired, so the repair can be carried out. My configs needed to be edited, so they wanted to charge me $200 for it! While I can do everything they put on their website from the control panel, their tech kept pushing, saying that it was proprietary software and that I only had rights to it.

Needless to say, I just ordered a motherboard from ASUS. Let's stick it to Netgear and their predatory approach. Their product failed, so why should I be required to pay them to correct it? This is disgusting.

Despite its great hardware, the software it comes with is worthless
4/5

There is no doubt this router works great. It has a great range and is fast. It is only the configuration software that is lacking. Once you install the software, it prompts you to download a software called the genie, which makes the first part of the setup much easier. You will only be able to configure the two options. An example of a 4G radio is shown below. A web interface is required to further configure the 5GHz radio. In addition, you could configure the 2 with this file. An example of a 4G radio is shown below. As such, the software is largely useless. I would give this thing five stars if Netgear would get rid of the download and just show you the web interface.

Having some issues with my wifi speed after upgrading my internet service, I discovered that my router is seven years old, so it just blew me away! Thanks to JT, I now have a much faster connection

I hate it! The last time I bought it was Is it possible that time is slipping by so quickly? With my increased income, I also decided to upgrade my router. Back then I spent $19 on it, now I'm making more than four times as much money! It had a price of $99 on mine. NETGEAR AC1200 has made all the difference in the world since it was installed. As a result, not only is my signal reaching the parking lot of my apartment with a relatively good strength, but my upload and download speeds are out of this world when compared to before as well. As a FPS gamer, I used to have lag problems, but now my load times are better than some of those I am playing with. There were so many wifi-enabled devices on my old wifi router (which was built before there were so many wifi-enabled devices available in the market) that it was struggling to keep up with them. With as many devices connected as I have on my network, the NETGEAR AC1200 is not at all hampered, and the NETGEAR monitoring tool is also helpful in monitoring those devices. I found it to be In my opinion, this router is a great option if you are looking for a powerful router for your home.

A cable to connect to the Internet is included

The setup process is fairly straightforward. INCLUDED IN THE PURCHASE OF THIS ITEM IS A LAN CABLE. Neither the product description nor the image indicate that.

If it dies after 4 months, and the warranty hasn't already expired, it won't be repaired without their tech support, which is an additional charge

In this regard, I should say that I served in the US Navy as an Electronics Technician. That router was a mess, so I already troubleshot it The device has been rebooted, unplugged, reset to default, etc. I receive about 1 Mbps on my wireless network! The direct cable connection works fine, but Netgear needs to call technical support first - I requested a replacement, but I won't get it until after they do a 30-minute phone call The 90-day period has just come to an end. Therefore, I was asked to pay for my phone support, which is $89 per month. The cost of 6 months is 99 dollars and the cost of a year is 139 dollars. You can get a year for 99 dollars. If anyone happens to read this review, I would like to change my review to a positive if you replace my router without Your kind consideration is much appreciated. My Netgear can bite me, according to the latest update on 4/20/2019. I won't bother to even check the deals on any of their products ever again since you slipped out of your warranty. As a substitute for their own product, I would recommend that of their competitor The latest research

A router that doesn't work I am unable to keep my connection to the The router was purchased in July, showing a need to replace an old ASUS router
3/5

We thought it would be a great router for our small home based on the average rating and price. So far, nothing like that has happened. It took about a month for us to notice issues with the internet after our installation. A problem we had not had prior to this router was loss of internet connection randomly (different times of the day, different loads). My assumption was that it couldn't be the router's fault (since it was practically We had connectivity issues again after swapping the ISP modem and all of the cabling. Before installing this router, we didn't have any issues of that nature. Once that was done, we connected the modem back to As soon as the router started working again, everything went back to normal. There is no need to restart the computer or cycle through the power supply. You can do this by unplugging the Ethernet cable from the WAN port on the router and replugging it. This is insane. It gets worse because you'll find similar reviews and even a NETGEAR thread from 2011 that has similar issues. So, after battling with this router for quite a while, we've swapped it out for another. Our new router has been in place for a week and we haven't experienced any problems since the switch. Also, our connection speeds on the new router are significantly faster than what the NETGEAR offered us, as we are now receiving advertised speeds (an increase of 42% on download and 100% on upload compared to what was allowed by the NETGEAR). There is no way to get a refund, and I have lost faith in Netgear. I find it absolutely absurd that a router could have connectivity problems AND that an issue like that has been active since 2011.
