The AC4000 should not be purchased This item has been recalled I recommend you NOT purchase the AC4000 (aka R8000P) Every time the router loses power for more than a minute or two, ALL custom settings disappear and the router reverts to default settings In order to recover the lost wireless network name, wifi passwords, file hosting for the USB-attached storage, admin password, etc, for my iPad, I need to use a hardwired computer to log in manually or to restore a backup file I wish you the best of luck speaking to a family member about that when I am working and experiencing the power hiccups unintuitive and offers few options Although Netgear's own forums say you should use a UPS to prevent defaults from loading, I have never needed one to prevent factory defaults from loading on a competitor's device
Since the purchase of the Nighthawk AC 5300 several years ago, the device ran smoothly on a constant basis Unfortunately, it no longer does One day, after it had run out of its extended warranty, it died Besides waiting for the new AX 1200 (which will be out June 30th), I thought I would get a decent device until then, and this is what I got During the two days I spent trying to get it to work through-out my house, all I did was try I had been running everything across my home anywhere from 780 Mbps, to 866 Mbps when I had the AC 5300 (along with my Nighthawk X6S Tri Band EX8000 Wi Fi Range Extender) As long as I'm sitting just inches in front of the unit, I can get more out of this than I can on my cell phone The signal rapidly decreases when I walk out of the room After I called Netgear's tech support, the nice lady I spoke to helped me boost all three signals to the maximum And, as I said, you can see the router right in front of it By using my Comcast Wi Fi, connected through my Arris modem, I am able to get better signal using my Wi Fi It is the first router I have seen that cannot be plugged in and used at once There are some rural areas where people have poor internet service, or people who have small apartments, or small houses where this router may work well It is not for people with a decent size house and good internet access, but it is good for those with good internet service
In response to my need to extend my 5G coverage throughout my home, I installed my new router on 27 May 2020 to replace my old Spectrum router The installation was simple and it linked with my Spectrum modem without a problem The Canon printer, my Amazon Echo Show and my macbook pro are connected via ethernet from my modem through the router, while my Mac desktop and T-Mobile mini can be accessed using WiFi As of yesterday, I was unable to connect to my router for internet I can power it on, all the LEDs light up, but there is no sign of a signal, wifi or Ethernet connection Right now, I'm only online because I disconnected the ethernet cable from the Spectrum modem The router has only been in use for two weeks On two occasions this evening, I made contact with Netgear support, spoke with a screener who promised to connect me to a technician, but not only that, the connection was lost both times The person I spoke with has not called me to resume the conversation despite having my phone number Two things are wrong I have a double problem Could you please let me know what I should do to get my router to reconnect? Is it even worth getting in touch if the best I can expect from customer service is a hang up? My day trading involves a lot of communication with the Netgear help desk I have heard some horror stories about Netgear and its reliability I've been there for quite some time My motivation for picking up the new router was to benefit from its gigabyte bandwidth In a transaction yesterday, I would have lost thousands of dollars if the link had been lost The cost of that is too high for me For modem and router, I have already performed all the normal steps of disconnecting and reconnecting, rebooting, and checking cable connectivity The solution I've come up with is actually quite good It costs The device should work at 00 A period of time In the future, I will purchase a reliable router from a reputable brand instead of returning it to Amazon
It was only a few weeks ago that I bought it It started out well: the network coverage was excellent, and thanks to a 1Gbps connection (thanks, Sonic Fiber! ), I was surfing the express lanes of the Information Superhighway It all stopped working one day quite: Ping times of 8 seconds (yes, you read that right) and a temporary connection that would go up for a few seconds, then go down again plagued me My frustration led me to power-cycle the router (and as I have been told by many tech support workers) The problem was resolved, and everything was back to normal Then a couple of days later, it was the same The drill was familiar to me this time; I find it annoying, however, to have to do this so often It all comes to a climax with the cherry on top Today when I came home from work, I found that my router had a bright orange light I couldn't get it to work My first reaction was to pull the plug, wait the specified 10 seconds to plug it back in, and then plug it back in again Due to the factory reset, the router is back to its factory default settings Wham! Womp womp womp! I wasted almost an hour trying to recreate the network that had taken me hours to build There's no point in using this router anymore My return will be in a few days
