Questions & Answers

Is it possible to play up to three PS4s on the same network at the same time? Is it true that Cs stream?

I've had several computers, and we have a Blu-ray player in our home. Ray players have all been working at the same time with no noticeable lag, so I expect it to work for you as well. You should start with a high-bandwidth connection, such as FIOS.

Is it compatible with Comcast cable?

This is a generic router that should work with any internet service provider or modem. You only need to connect this router to your modem and set up the WiFi. You could just check with Comcast for recommendations to be on the safe side.

Is this compatible with the Century Link?

I only have CenturyLink 1gig fiber service, and this works great as a replacement for their "modem," which isn't really a modem. If you have a TV or phone service, it will not work as your only device; to replace your internet only service, you will need to enter your PPPoE username and password (which you can get from Century Link). Then there's a VLAN tagging setting on the router that needs to be set to 201. Then you return their shoddy "modem" and request that your monthly "modem" lease fee be waived. It gives me a lot more speed in my house!

Is this up to the dhs's requirements? snmp v3?

AVOID - JUNK
3/5

For the past 20 years, I've been building and overclocking my own computers. Routers are and SHOULD be simple to install, configure, and set up. I did the networking in my house, fished the walls, installed and did my own patch panels, and so on. This isn't the case with this piece of garbage. If you have ANY kind of network (mine is a multi-homed network), This thing will be a bear and beast to install if it has anything higher than zone wifi. Their Linksys Web-based set-up is quite impressive. Up is severely flawed and overly difficult to use; it would not maintain an internet connection. It seemed to get stuck trying to get into the router and what should have been a 5 - Setup time is 10 minutes. up, the majority of the time spent waiting for the two router reboots had already passed half an hour with no progress. I returned the overpriced brick to its box, began the return process, and plugged in my trusty, but aging, 5-year-old router. It still ran circles around this nonsense, because it could connect and be configured. br>br>At the core, routers should be simple to set up and connect to. FINE if it needs to be updated automatically. Allow for this only after it has been configured and at the very least added to the network. br>br>Calling it junk does a disservice to trash that may or may not have some value. It's a sad day when you're happy to reintroduce a 5-year-old router because it performs better and is more stable. Having an internet-based setup for networking equipment that is essentially establishing the connection and may require tweaking to integrate with your network topography is stupid. On the plus side. . . br>br> With the instability and dropped connection issues, I was able to see early on that it was a POS and not something I'd have to deal with down the road; the only downside is that I may have to buy another TP-Link. I was going to install my old one for my parents after I got this one set up, so I needed a link for them. br>br>Web setups should be avoided at all costs. They're unreliable, and you should be able to quickly configure a network appliance to add to the topology before connecting it to the network.

In terms of parental controls, this is complete misinformation! This router's parental controls are completely useless! Although the app for controlling when each device has permission to access the internet appears to be slick, it does nothing
3/5

We had a blocking schedule set up for each child's device, but when we discovered our son streaming a movie during a blocked time, I was curious as to why he was able to access the internet during "blocked" times, and I discovered that the blocking had no effect on any of the devices. Despite the fact that the app indicated that the device was blocked, we were able to browse the web and watch videos. After reading through support forums and speaking with Linksys support, I discovered that the parental control feature does not work with IPv6. This isn't mentioned in any of the product information used to promote it. This router, as well as parental controls that can only be used in IPv4-based networks, should be sold. Even though a router that supports IPv4 only is outdated technology, only mode should not be advertised as a feature. Linksys tech support suggests disabling IPv6 in the router settings as a workaround to get parental controls working, but that didn't work for me (and is an unwelcome capability limitation). The last technician who called me back about my Linksys support ticket said I needed to call my ISP and ask them to turn off IPv6 traffic to my house (I did as the technician suggested and called my ISP, but they said it was not something they'd ever heard of doing and that it was a bad idea even if they could). Overall, it was extremely frustrating to discover that the advertised feature we purchased this router for, Parental Controls, does not work at all, and even worse, Linksys is aware of this and continues to falsely advertise it. We were fortunate that this flaw was discovered early on.

It sat in my garage's junk pile for 6 months before being used
3/5

To be fair to Linksys, I chose not to deal with their tech support and eventually abandoned this router due to a slew of issues. It was on sale during Black Friday 2018 and I purchased it. Because my four-year-old ASUS refurb had become unreliable, I installed it in December. This router appears to be good at first glance, and the management interface is miles ahead of anything else I've seen. What we really want, however, is a high-performance router, which I did not receive. I had range issues right away and had to purchase an extender to get some of my devices to work. I have a 2000 square foot single-story home and didn't think I needed it. Following that, I experienced random disconnects from various devices, particularly after a power outage. I thought it was a device issue because I had to reprogram the devices so frequently. I had devices that would not connect even after reprogramming after a recent power outage. I have a large home network with about 60 devices (10 LAN, 10ish 5G, the rest on 2) and a large home network. 4G). I finally got fed up with the issues and purchased a Netgear ax8, which is advertised as a better router for large home networks. I discovered everything working after my first power outage and didn't need to reprogram anything; all of my random connection issues have been resolved thus far, and I no longer require a range extender. br>br>My router is still under warranty and I could sell it or give it away, maybe even get a new one through support, but I think it would be too difficult, intermittent issues are impossible to troubleshoot, and I wouldn't wish these problems on anyone, so it's the junk pile for this router and a 1 star rating for not resolving the issues.

Wifi in an insane world! My wife is a teacher, and she's been teaching classes over the internet since the world fell apart! Our older Linksys router (2015/16) had reached the end of its glitching freeze frame cycle
5/5

"The days of $50 routers are over," my job site IT tech said after I approved this model. Installing and configuring the network through the app took only a few minutes. We were soon engulfed in the warm embrace of wifi streaming and video conferencing! Thank you.
