Questions & Answers

I am being charged $10 extra a month for home networking and a modem by my cable company. Is this a viable alternative to cable equipment? Can I save money with this instead?

It is powered by the Asus RT-AC68U Router N12 is the right term. The only one. This modem does not function as a cable modem. A cable modem compatible with your ISP (check with your ISP) is probably the minimum requirement for you Version 3 of Docsis is the most recent version. Though not required, it is preferable to have 0. The majority of service providers seem to be happy with Motorola's performance. Rather than a simple modem, you'll need a compatible cable/voice gateway if you wish to combine phone service with internet access. The cost of gateways is significantly higher than modems, and they are far more difficult to find, especially if compatibility is a concern. Saving money is one of the most important things to do. Let's say you only need a modem and router, the combined cost will be about $107 (router= $40 + Motorola SB6121 = $67) plus Just under a year from the time your equipment starts paying for itself based on the $10 rental fee. If all you need is a modem and no gateway, you won't need any other hardware.

Is it possible to connect wired and wireless devices at the same time once you're in AP mode?

We do have it in AP mode, and we have a laptop tied to it as well. This works well and has no noticeable impact on

Is local traffic from one computer to another routed through the primary router when two computers are connected in repeater mode? The repeater handles it, or is it handled differently?

In simpler terms, an access point operates like a switch that forwards data to the correct port at a given MAC address. The data sent from your wireless network to your router will not pass through your A router can be set up in access point mode, but if the unit is set up to connect to another network, then it is an access point.

How fast are the wired LAN ports? Are they gigabit or ?

"RJ45 for 10/100/1000/Gigabits BaseT for LAN x 4, RJ45 for 10/100/1000/Gigabits BaseT for WAN x 1" which means 1G for 6

An exceptional value in a router of this price range

Technology at the cutting edge The 11 B/G/N standard does not include the 802 standard. I 12a GHz) means that a well-designed plan will have to deal with It is possible to have an affordable, high-performance router that is well-engineered. It's easy to set up, but has the sort of (optional) admin features that geeks appreciate, including the ability to create 300 Mbps for online docs. A HD streaming service would not be suitable. Installation of DD-WRT is possible There is a slight decrease in performance with WRT firmware. As a consumer of ASUS products, I have always found them to be There are two things you can do in order to manage your time Although there are some minor issues, the manual does not quite correspond with the shipping product. It doesn't say outer/ap/bridge is set in software, and there are other minor issues. Among the potential pitfalls we should note is one. It had been my intention to replace the Comcast gateway with this modem and Since the modem I used could not connect with Comcast, I was forced to use this router as the modem for the Comcast gateway until I could order another Almost everything worked this morning. I just got a new modem and the router worked fine. I'll be brief. This message then informed me that your ISP's DHCP had not been functioning properly, which has sparked quite a bit of discussion online The modem in question is not supported for this model. As Comcast made the online approval for the modem activation, it warned that config might take some time. What was strange was that I could access the web from the modem Ethernet port, but the router had problems with the ISP's DHCP server. There is no need to Comcast should take about an hour to fix your modem, after which you should reset it. The destination IP address had changed in the lower 16 bits, and now the router was able to work with ISP DHCP and routing. )

Someone on the net suggested we.

It is a repeater bridge
5/5

Great little router at a great price. Had it flashed with the latest DD-WRT firmware With only 30 minutes of setup, your wireless router will serve as a repeater bridge for your network. Can it be an hour and a half? I'm not disappointed in how long it took me to do either, considering it was my first time. Even though I don't have the coverage I want across my house yet, I can not only use my Wink 2 hub to load up Facebook from my room without having to go downstairs and cross half the house, but my Wink 2 hub gives me good coverage throughout my apartment. A little further and I should at least be able to get a decent degree of coverage throughout the house once again. For instructions and software to flash DD-WRT, please visit this website. I was able to set up the equipment on the first try thanks to WRT. Please read [. "]
The DD-The It took me only two attempts to set up my new Asus router as a repeater bridge using the WRT wiki.

A decent wifi access point, but it is old and single band
3/5

OpenWRT does not recommend it. Earlier this month, I purchased an ASUS RT-AC68U The Verizon G1100 will replace the N12 wireless capability on our Verizon FiOS network. In partnership with ASUS, the RT-AC68U My N12 is only a single band, so I was only able to replace two of them. A motherboard from ASUS can handle up to 4 GHz. There is a Asus RT-AC87U modem that features With N12 enabled I am able to control As for the ASUS RT-AC66T, I was not satisfied with the signal strength There does not seem to be any difference between that and Verizon's The ASUS WiFi signal strength did not appear to be adjustable in the latest BIOS even with the newest drivers.

Finding and flashing the latest BIOS on the ASUS RT-N66U It was a breeze to deal with N12. This was easy to find on the ASUS site, and to flash as well. Due to the BIOS being less than six months old, Asus is still providing support for the device. downside of ASUS using Linux 2 is that some people find it inconvenient. This is a legacy kernel version 6, which no longer is A supported kernel, such as version 5, is recommended by the kernel folks. The BIOS may limit the functionality of the device, and I thought ASUS could be doing that. It was hard to find a setting to increase the strength of the signal, for example. To remedy the situation, I thought I might be able to use an OpenWRT image. On OpenWRT's site, I learned that they do not recommend this router due to its 4/32 classification, which means less than 4MB of flash storage and/or less than 32MB There are 28 MB of RAM in the ASUS. All things considered, the ASUS RT-AC88U is a solid, portable device With an N12 router, you get an average (old) router that does not meet today's needs and does not allow you to customize it.

There is no problem with it
3/5

Asus will not provide you with good support. In the case of our cable provider, we had our WiFi go out approximately every 30 minutes to 2 hours until the router was rebooted as a result of a new firmware update. It is more convenient to use this device to handle our WiFi traffic rather than change that. Since it was configured, it has been running without incident. The setup process was simple, the WiFi range is excellent, and it has been up without issue since. As for having a few extra Ethernet ports, I won't complain either. In terms of what this device is and how much it costs, this was a good buy. I have updated Due to the fact that I have not received my rebate nearly 3 months later, this is not as good of a deal. This week's update I upgraded my rating to a full 5 stars because I have used this device flawlessly for the past few months. The range and stability of our WiFi have improved since the beginning of the year. Update #2) Very unhappy with Asus' rebate program. Upon requesting a rebate, I was told it would be mailed in about 8-10 days I have been working for 10 weeks now. I haven't even received it 13 weeks after submitting my form. As I have come to expect from Asus, that is what I will have to deal with.
