Selected User Reviews For Dell S2421H 24 Inch Full HD 1080p Monitor, IPS Ultra-Thin Bezel, 2 x HDMI Ports, Built-in Speakers, Silver
I recently received my S2721HS model and was not receiving the expected sound through HDMI or DisplayPort; however, a closer look at the Dell website revealed why: It's either the HS model's adjustable stand or the H model's speakers, not both. Only the higher models in this series (DS or QS) have speakers in addition to the adjustable stand, so I'm giving it four stars. Separately, I'm giving it four stars because the text sharpness isn't up to par. To be fair, the native 1920 x 1080 pixel size is probably not fine enough for 27-inch screens if fine text is desired. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> Instead, buy a 3840x2160 (4K) monitor, such as the Dell 2721QS, and scale it down to 1920x1080 for a "perfect" looking 1920x1080 27in. Because the 3840x2160 resolution uses whole number multiples of pixels compared to 1920x1080, scaling down to 1920x1080 gives you the same clarity as the native resolution, but with much more crispness thanks to the panel's higher pixel density. That's exactly what I did, and I ended up with the 2721QS as a replacement. The water is crystal clear and crisp down below. On a 2014 Mac mini, the image was scaled to 1920x1080. Simply check your computer's specifications to see if its graphics can handle a 4K monitor.
I chose the adjustable model with a length of 24 inches. For day-to-day computing, the screen resolution is excellent. The ability to adjust the height and angle to my liking is fantastic. However, I gave it four stars because the title on Amazon's ordering page is deceptive. The monitor does not have built-in speakers if you choose the adjustable options. It does have an audio out port, which I can use to connect to some speakers.
I purchased the fixed S2721H model because I wanted a monitor with speakers and FreeSync. To achieve the advertised 75Hz refresh rate, set the advanced display settings in Windows to max refresh rate and ensure that FreeSync is enabled in your graphic card software. Standard mode (default mode) on this 1080P monitor is crisp and easy to read. Switch to comfort view mode if you want to protect yourself from blue light. Another thing to double-check is that, because you're connecting via HDMI, it's set to RGB mode. Because it wasn't set to RGB by default for some reason, you can use a Dell driver instead of Windows' default driver to get better performance. Despite the fact that this model's height is fixed, it does include tilt adjustment and VESA 100 monitor mounts. There isn't a single dead pixel, and the package hasn't been damaged in any way. We are pleased with our purchase in general.
I purchased a BeeLink miniPC and required a monitor as well as speakers. This worked perfectly. The monitor looks great and the speakers are fine; I connected it to my PC via HDMI and didn't have to use an A-cable. Needed a V wire. It was quickly detected by the computer. It's now connected to both my iMac and my mini PC as a secondary monitor. It was easily recognized by the iMac as well. To share the monitor between the two computers, I only needed an HDMI switch. This is a brand new Dell monitor, released in August of 2020.
TLDR; These monitors are a good choice for a second or third monitor if you're on a tight budget. br>br> They're great monitors with thin bezels and a low profile, and they support AMD Free Sync, so if you have an AMD graphics card, they'd be a good match for a budget gaming rig. Because they only go up to 60hz, I wouldn't use it for anything high-end. Color accuracy is an issue for me because the colors appear washed out, but with some tweaking of the settings, I was able to get it to look acceptable. I wouldn't use this monitor for creative work because of the color accuracy issues. I also like the grey backplate on the back of the monitor because it matches my setup and gives me a break from seeing everything in black.
With only one review to go on, I decided to take a chance on this monitor. However, I was not let down. By far the best monitors are made by Dell. The monitor was intended for use in a business environment that required good built-in speakers. The main reason I bought this model was because of this. The sound isn't of audiophile quality. Music sounds fine, the picture is colorful, and the text is sharp, but they're not as good as any other monitor speakers I've heard.
So, to begin, let me say that I should have read the description more carefully, because dual HDMI is ridiculous for those who want to use these as a dual monitor setup. Most, if not all, business-grade PCs will have only one HDMI port and one or two DP ports. HDMI is the most difficult of all video standards to adapt, and even if you do, the refresh rates will be different, and the color will not match on both monitors. I think it's a bad design.
I got this for half price, which was a lucky break! I was using a Dell monitor that was ten years old and decided it was time to upgrade. Dell monitors are excellent. br>br>One thing I noticed right away is that the monitor is TRUE white, as opposed to the yellowish tint that many monitors have. It's also BRIGHT, which makes the colors pop. This has been a huge help to me because I'm visually impaired. br>br>I'm not much of a gamer, but Netflix and Hulu both look fantastic! Two points. br>br> To begin, look into Windows' advanced display options. It will frequently use 60hz as a default. It needs to be increased! br>br>Secondly, it is devoid of speakers. It is equipped with a headphone jack. I'm completely satisfied. br>br>.
