Questions & Answers

What kind of cover or cap does it have to protect it from dirt and dust?

No cover or cap is included

It gets hot here, how hot is it? With a lot of these "low profile" drives, that happens to be my main concern as of now. Planning to use a raspberry pi with them?

Listed below are some details about compatibility with the Raspberry Pi 4B. This floppy drive is smaller and therefore ideal for a Raspberry Pi, however, it is only marginally better than the earlier non-Plus version, which means it cannot be used for the Raspberry Pi. A flash drive controller on the RPi or the RPi 4 has compatibility issues, but I have not observed or encountered such problems with several other flash companies, so I have no reason to blame the RPi 4 (yet). is not to use Samsung Flash or M cards. With a RPi 4 B, I installed 2 SSDs. In my mind, I had hoped that Samsung (that really seems to be the problem) would have made some changes in the Plus version to make the RPi 4 happy, but that hasn't been the case. For RPi 4, my favorite flash/NAND storage is: It has excellent performance
Silicon Power M. Sandisk's latest (sadly long) Extreme Pro has great performance. Please do not attempt to use any Samsung M SSDs and instead use two Sabrent SSDs and two WD Blue SSDs (possibly other colors). I am testing two SSD on RPi 4 using a USB adapter - I've done in-depth testing of this product. A USB-to-M cable and two SSDs are included. It has never happened to me to see a Samsung M. I have 2 adapters. SSD works on two of them. There may be a day.

If I install the Mac OS, can I boot it on startup and use it as a disk?

The answer is yes. When I need to start up that operating system, I simply start it up from there. I have installed macOS High Sierra on it. I like the way it works and the speed is good.

The drive is small and fast at reading and writing
4/5

The write speed is average. The read speed is close to the advertised one. Sequential reads on the 256GB drive kept me in the low to mid 290 MB/s range. Almost 60 MB/s (sequential) was my write speed. Between 13 and 15 MB/s is what I'm seeing when random writes and reads occur. This screen shot is from Crystal Disk Mark 6.

The write speed was not advertised - spec only says No, it's not helpful at all. So that we can make a more informed purchase, I'd prefer that the write speed be advertised.

At this price point and for such a small drive, I can honestly say you're getting a good deal. A huge storage capacity is combined with fast write speeds that are comparable to those of the SanDisk Extreme Pro in a small form factor. It might also be the right option if you do not need to regularly generate large files. The SanDisk Extreme Pro is a good option for those who need faster sustained writes, are not concerned with the drive's size, and have an extra $35 to spare.

It is utter garbage
3/5

A previous review reported that the drive suddenly disappears from the computer without warning after a few minutes. Several tests in my laboratory involved using three of these devices for RAID-Z1 arrays for several embedded systems. I purchased three of them for use as a small array. The first drive disconnected after a few GB of writing, but reported over 500 bad blocks after no more than a few GB of writing. The second drive didn't disconnect on its own, but reported 1000 bad blocks after the same amount of writing. There was no data corruption detected on either drive after more than ten minutes. In the appliance and embedded server worlds, "fit" USB drives are the standard for boot drives. Hence the reason for the RAID setup (this has becoming a It was not possible to perform a single large write operation and a single read operation efficiently with these drives. This is the end of the story. Choose what we know is best. Use the band that makes "fit" drive the defacto standard. Do not take their word for it. They really have rock solid SD cards, so I was eager to try an alternative brand. Can they be used on USB drives? Trash in its purest form. It may cost an extra 50 cents, but stick with the main and most trusted USB storage brand. You won't regret it. Can you tell me what your data is actually worth?.

Every time it goes to sleep or turns off, it turns off again
3/5

For a very long time, I have used flash drives, but the current one is the WORST. In the middle of a document, I plug it in and it disappears from the file list. This is equivalent to turning it off or going to sleep. remove it and plug it back in, so I worry that the drive might get corrupted if I unplug it so frequently that it might lose everything I have saved. The item is definitely being returned.

USB flash drive formatted in Exfat by Samsung
3/5

A great product for the car, I've got one at home and one in the car, home stereo, and my computer too. It only worked on the computer with this Samsung Usb. As it turns out, this new Samsung drive system is based on something called "Exfat" as opposed to "Fat 32", which was the first Samsung drive system. The people who tell you that you can format it to Fat32 say. . . Although, it is not easy to do at all . . . . . . . This is my first time using EasyUS. . . I was surprised to find out that you have to pay for the version that will actually format the USB drive to Fat 32 and that it costs more than the actual USB drive. I am not a computer professional and I do not have the time to figure out how to format usb drives. Every time I plug in a Sandisk usb, everything is fine. The first Samsung USB flash drive I own plays in everything. . . . . . I cannot comprehend why anyone would want to change a format that has absolutely no problems. . . My mouth is watering just thinking about it. . . . Anybody who wishes to work with Exfat formats should have their work cut out for them.

A very low-profile USB hard drive that booted up in a few seconds and is well worth the price
5/5

I bought it for my car's usb port so I would not have to carry around the binder of cds. The first time I tried to load it on my computer, it was quite difficult. The port at the back of the tower had to be used. Nevertheless, once the issue was resolved, loading was easy and fast, even when a whole CD was loaded. This device can hold a lot of music, a lot of music! Because it registers with my car very quickly, I don't have to wait long before it works. It's very low profile and doesn't interfere with my driving at all, so most of the time I forget it exists. I would order it again. It is well worth the price.

The use of inline (side by side) USB hubs or jacks can be limited by space
5/5

It runs a bit hot for these drives, despite their high performance. The width of the head is an important factor to consider. The side loop on the keychains prevents them from being inserted into an inline hub such as a Sabrent 4 port USB 3. Since the loop is on the side, not the front, the drives can't be inserted into one hub at the same time. With a 0 hub you can add the individual port switches without having to angle them. There is a slight offset, so the ports will fit but will not be flush with each other. If you are using a hub that stacks (not inline) ports onto each other, this shouldn't be a problem.

Performer of solid quality
5/5

In comparison to SanDisk's recent flop in this same space with their recent new product, this one seems to be more responsive, has a metal body, etc. The one you get will be better than the other brands available there.

It still ticks after three weeks of use as my external storage unit for my NVidia Shield TV unit- how does SanDisk's compare? An inexperienced individual I bought a plastic case (which I was dubious of) welded around the circuit board? Baked to death in a week. Our recommendation: buy this one. Same rough price, slightly faster, and a bit more durable.
