Questions & Answers

Would you please tell me if this is a spinning disc or a solid state drive? Thanks for your kind words! ?

Items such as this are referred to as The Sandisk Portable SSD (SOLID STATE Drive) is a small, portable hard drive. In other words, it's not solid state. No, they're joking, and I'm just joking too. As a matter of fact- I do agree with you about the seriousness, however This is in fact a solid state drive since there are no moving or spinning

How well does this drive perform when it comes to running an OS?

Yes, I agree! Using these, you may have to change your system setup to use. In my case I had to change the SATA controller mode to AHCI from RAID and the UEFI to Legacy support, and boot priority to Legacy priority As soon as you fix those settings, you will be amazed at how fast it runs. The Fedora computer I use for storage is a 1TB drive, and the Fedora Security Spin is a 500GB drive I use to restore customers' data and fix their In addition to CentOS and Linux Mint, I have no problems with those operating systems.

What if I want to backup my PC and save files from my Macbook at the same time? Is there a way for me to save files from both drives simultaneously? How much does it cost to upgrade my desktop and laptop (2012 macbook)?

To put it simply, I have an all-inclusive setup at home Setting up a Mac. I immediately set it up as a 200 GB HFS+ partition and an 800 GB APFS partition after I took it out of the box. On the HFS+ partition, Time Machine uses the HFS+ partition, and on the APFS partition, there are four volumes (capacity is dynamically allocated to the volumes on My thoughts on how I would apply it in a mixed environment are For Time Machine, you need only one HFS+ partition (you can't use an APFS partition There will be only one APFS partition assigned to the files that will be used exclusively with Macs For those situations when you need to be able to access the file through Windows as well as on a Mac, you should have one ExFAT partition. Make sure to keep the USB in your possession as well Connect USB Type-C to USB Type-A There is a connector that comes with the drive it is about six feet long A USB cable with a diameter of 1 inch Both ends are fitted with C connectors.

My laptop is not working when I plug it in. I'm not sure where I'm going wrong. I can't see it at all on my computer. How do I get started? Do I need to download anything?

My wife has two of these and is about to get a third. No, you don't need to download anything to use them (at least on a Windows or Linux computer). Due to the fact that I switch from one OS to another, I reformat mine to NTFS. A note about the usb "A" adapter it has a notch on one end, and will only fit one way completely, so you have probably got a bad one. Send it back if not.

This is a great drive, but it must be formatted first
4/5

Despite being a long drive, it is worth it. With a throughput of 550 MB/s, it truly lives up to its promise of being small, light, and fast. It should be noted, however, that before you use this drive for anything other than movies, music, and pictures, you need to format In addition to backing up your phone or computer, the drive can also be used to back up your music and movies. This drive comes formatted with exFAT and has a 1 MB allocation size out of the box. Thus any work smaller than 1 MB is equal to 1 MB of storage The size of a single MB may seem insignificant on a 250 GB drive, but it adds up A 2 TB drive can take up a lot of space with the myriad of small files that show up on backups taking up 1,000x more space than they usually would. Here are some pictures showing that a small text file takes up 2,700x more space than it really does and a 177 GB backup takes up an additional 73 GB on the drive. I mention this because fixing it is fairly simple. Based on the command line, the sector size on the drive is 512 bytes, so having an allocation size of that size does not make sense. To do this, you simply need to format the drive as exFAT and select a smaller allocation size than 1MB. The default allocation size is 128 KB, but you can use as small as 4 KB or as large as 256 KB and still be far more efficient than the default allocation size of 1 MB.

I lost photos of my travels over the past five years
3/5

There is something wrong with this drive. After a month of use, the program had been stable, but now, my Lightroom profile will not load, and I am unable to transfer photos from If you use the drive, it'll randomly hang whenever you do anything with it, from transferring files from the drive to transferring files onto the drive. It hangs at 2-GB when I try to transfer 5 GB to the 1 TB Hard Drive Despite 3 GB of memory, the system just freezes (check out the error attached). It does not open up Lightroom the way it should because it freezes before it completes opening. This hard drive does not work with any of the other ones I have on my computer. I have lost the last 5 years' worth of travel photos. After a few months, I am not buying SanDisk again. I am using SSDs from Samsung instead.

After a couple of months of use, the software corrupts files and data
3/5

Sandisk has been one of my favorite manufacturers for many years. I have purchased many terabytes of memory from them. Over time, I have become reliant on their quality over other brands, starting with photography. It was not important to me whether I paid a premium, since protecting my data and files was The problem is insidious and it is the first time I have had an issue like this. Having owned this unit for a few months, I have noticed a problem where it corrupts a file when I save it without sending me any message or error notice. And then after a couple of hours, it is either unreadable or missing data, and I lose all my work.

You need this USB SSD drive if you need the best! Keep your eyes focused on this! My MacBook Pro needed an SSD as a way of backing it up
5/5

SuperDuper software and a spinning hard drive used to be my backup method of choice in the past, and it was a very slow process. It often takes up to an hour to backup and restore 500GB of data. I built my MacBook Pro with a solid state drive, making it obvious that the destination backup should also be stored on an SSD drive. This would enable significant improvements in transfer speeds. Here are a couple of other things There is a much higher failure rate for spinning hard drives compared to SSDs. As a spindle backup drive owner, I can't even begin to explain how many drives I have purchased in the past that The fact that SSD prices have dramatically decreased gives no one an excuse not to buy them. SSD drives are the future and this decrease in price has taken all of the sting out of buying these drives. My first choice was a Samsung drive with a metal case, but the SanDisk 1TB impressed me more. I researched several different SSD drives before choosing this drive. I did, however, believe the Samsung drives to have major problems with embedded software that was difficult to remove from the drives after reading reviews online. The fact that it would not be possible for me to install it on my computer was something I avoided when buying this SanDisk Extreme. As I read the reviews on it, it became apparent that it would be perfectly suited Positive reviews were found by all reviewers. No embedded software was found. In the market for USB drives at this time, this particular SSD has been rated as one of the very fastest. I was pleasantly surprised to see how short the drive actually is upon arrival. There's no way it can be bigger than that. It would fit in your jeans pocket and you would not feel it there. It is amazing to see how far external SSD drives have come in terms of Despite the good performance, I'm not particularly pleased with the drive's cover. It brings dust into the enclosure. It had already begun collecting airborne dog hair the second I placed it on the table. But, as an advantage, it is so rugged that it will not break if it is dropped from almost any height. The importance of this is what I think matters most. It was nice to see that the USB port was included on the drive Using a USB cable with a C cord This adapter will do the job. There are also no wiggles in the cord when connected to the drive. My only complaint about the cord is that it's too short.

I have attached pictures of the result of a recent backup of my MacBook Pro using the SuperDuper program. With a spinning drive, that would have taken two hours or more. However, you can see that about 425GB of data was returned in 30 minutes time The length of the sentence is three I find this drive to be very fast!

This drive comes formatted for Windows xp. When you buy it for your Mac, you need to go to DISK UTILITY (in your applications folder), select the SanDisk drive, then click To format an OSX Extended Journaled drive, you will need to follow the instructions here. In just a few seconds, the format can be completed. Now you are ready to transfer data to the drive.

I have owned several SSD drives over the years and this is the best I have ever experienced. Please do not hesitate to prioritize this over any other option.

For large numbers of small files, I have just changed the format to NTFS and it works perfectly
5/5

My purchase of this came in ExFAT format and I copied one of the 20483 folders in one of my 16GB files. Measuring 7. 5 GB, they contain 750,827 Files and 19,072 Since the drive would not copy this entire 16GB folder onto the 500GB drive, I reformatted to NTFS. After reading a little bit about ExFAT and smaller files, I was able to copy this entire folder onto the 500GB drive within two seconds. As a result, my 130GB of files (and files from other drives) were successfully copied to the Sandisk 500GB drive. There is no doubt about it this thing FLYS! That is something that I adore, and I hope that it endures for a long time.

Pros Fast and very expensive
5/5

Cons Very slow and very expensive. This is an exceptionally fast and small machine. I don't know how I ever lived without this external drive. The cons are Large file transfers on this SSD run hot and this SSD is very expensive.
