Questions & Answers

During the time that my internet connection is down, can I connect to the mn422 drive locally over wireless? The synology drive on which I have a current backup goes dark when the ?

In the event of an internet outage, the Internet You shouldn't notice any impact to your local area network, however. You must have a decent firewall router between your computer systems, other network devices, and the Internet, right? It's still possible to connect wirelessly in that case if the router can still provide DHCP and other services to local devices. It may also be possible to supply wireless access if the router supports WLAN access points. Hence, as long as the ReadyNAS is added to the router as a network device, then any workstation, wired or wireless, will be able to connect locally to the ReadyNAS via its shares, or through its HTTP interface on any workstation. As a matter of fact, the Synology also should work this way, so I'm not sure why the local host turned black when you tried accessing it.

How can I stream 5 TB of movies using Infuse to the RN422? Can I dump 5 TB of movies to the RN422?

I have never worked with InFuse, but I do know RN422 can stream movies without any glitches when

What kind of hub can be connected to the usb3 ports of the usb3 port for multiple usb drives to be connected?

This doesn't seem to be the case.

Is it possible to set up the server to back up with Carbonite?

It was a roundabout way to say that. The network shares on the NAS must be backed up by Carbonite from a workstation inside the subnet where the shares are located.

It is solid, and a quick device to use
5/5

I bought it back in May 2018 . I have been extremely satisfied with it to date. In my case, I had to change the IP address to a static one since I needed a static IP address to function. • It did take me some time to figure out some permissions for the shares I created. - I have tested the device extensively once I have figured out all the network settings etc. The Netgear is able to transcode media files so the server can be used for Plex purposes. Nothing to worry about. There is no problem with the backup settings in the ReadyCloud interface. It is a 6 TB external drive that I am using In my case, the Netgear's power and data switches power on and off the drive. Backups are plain text, which I find fine and not in proprietary files. Therefore, if there is a problem, you can simply disconnect the external drive - attach it to your PC or Mac, and you will see your data right away. As a tank-like device, it's built to withstand the elements. Construction not made from cheap plastic, but from metal. Front side of the device has a digital display showing data. • Easy installation - took me about 10 minutes - I could start using it right away! It is a good NAS in general, and I would recommend it. A Netgear NAS is unquestionably a product I would buy.

The product was a failure on every level
3/5

This was a disaster from start to finish. It is obtuse and hard to use even for a seasoned IT guy like me, its instructions are bad, its device is difficult to use, its online help is terrible, and its features and usability are flawed and inconvenient. You will find instructions at the end of this page A significant amount of information is missing Diagrams and explanations of hardware are not provided in this document The following hardware is related The device had a hard time detecting the HDDs installed, the web diagram showed data on the wrong drive, it was difficult to discover the device over the network, and it could not properly configure The following software is available It was very difficult to configure, did not show correct device status, and had a lot of general bugs.
In over 20+ years of working with computers, I cannot fathom why Netgear marketed such a garbage piece of merchandise. Packing it up for return.

This is a great solution for streaming high-quality videos The NAS system on a slower and/or cheaper computer WILL pause randomly while streaming music and movies
5/5

As a replacement for NAS that previously couldn't playback movies in HD or UHD effectively, this device allows me to playback movies and music without stalling. The NAS control system was too slow to handle continuous data streaming as needed to playback movies and My Cloud Mirror and EX-disk were replaced with Western Digital My Cloud Mirror At the time, you could buy the ReadyNAS 422 for about $200 and the ReadyNAS 424 for around $300 (selling for around $155). Extra money is worth it when it comes to the ReadyNAS 4xx series devices and their capability to stream UHD, high-definition content You may play HD movies without any random pauses, and you can play music without a pause. Western Digital devices were FINE for everything else except streaming high quality audio and video. There is a noticeable difference in performance between Netgear 4xx series and 3xx, 2xx, and 1xx series ReadyNAS. In the event that you wish to stream high quality media from your NAS Music or video that has multi-channel audio With streaming audio, you should choose Netgear's 4xx series or a higher numeric series to get enough performance to handle the steady data flow. One user complained about Netgear's product support. I just accessed Netgear's support via Chat (early summer 2018) and was connected immediately and received prompt and helpful service. I also appreciated that the person who responded in Chat knew what I was talking about and I did not need to wait for them to finish a consultation with someone who did know the It took me less than a minute to get the info I needed. My personal impression of Netgear's customer service is that it is very impressive.

This software is simple to use and highly reliable
5/5

It has proven very reliable for the last two years since I have had it. The data is never lost or damaged, and it is very fast to Time Machine is primarily used to backup the data on several Macintosh systems that The separate Time Machine partitions backed up by RAID are reassuring to me. As part of this, I run a RSYNC job to push a copy to the cloud frequently I just wanted to be sure. The photo storage is also used to keep safe thousands of photos I want to keep. The installation process is straightforward and the configuration of the system is straightforward. As a result of The system works with little configuration in the box. In addition, there are several resources you can use if you wish to investigate further. With this cooler, you can monitor the CPU and overall system temperatures and then adjust the speed of the fans to keep them cool, which is far superior to the RN200 series. As well as the monitoring dashboards, there are also good ones. As an alternative to the two drive slots, you can connect drives via two USB ports, though those won't be considered RAID 1 drives. It is also possible to monitor a UPS using the network connection with this device - in my case, I use one of the USB connectors where my UPS is connected. This is helpful if you have several systems that are powered by the same It has never been necessary for me to contact tech support since the manual is quite useful, and community bulletin boards offer a lot of useful information.

fine, but there is no way to tell whether it is on or off
4/5

There is a nice text display on the face of this unit that turns off after a short time. To bring it back on, I have found that I must restart the item. It is essential for headless computers to have at least an LED that stays on when in use. The LEDs that Netgear used on the drive bays inside this enclosure are quite powerful. However, it would have been more convenient if they had piped those internal LEDs to the front of the enclosure, along with some sort of optical conduit (clear plastic I think it would have been better if the text display had been on. For performance, it works well side-stepping Windows 10's paranoid permissions issues, and is in my application a welcome restoration of Workgroups after Microsoft abruptly removed them. But for not having any indication that the unit is on, I took off one.

The same applies to PLEX as well
5/5

If you are debating between an external hard drive and a NAS, this is a must-have. The right path to take is this one. For myself, I think the 2 bay version will be most suitable, as I can access it from anywhere, including on my phone if necessary. Worked well with PLEX as well. It allows me to run my OTS game without having to leave work I have access to the server anywhere and can reboot it when necessary. It has a great deal of different web applications too, including its own software. If you are looking for a good tool for home business, this is exactly what you should consider.
