During the last year, I bought this unit with 24tb of storage, and it has two HDDs. The width of the board is 4 inches. The 17 TB i have for storage comes from a RAID 5 setup.
The Patriot SSD drives that came with my system were all 1 TB.
A Patriot P200 1 TB Solid State Drive (SSD) was installed in mine. They were upgraded to 6 Western Digital WD Red SA500 2 TB SSDs in the meantime.

I set this up in a matter of minutes, it offers a great storage solution for my small team as we work remotely, and it is a nice small form In order to set it up in RAID mode, I would have needed double the amount of storage, and that was out of my price range!.
A package of six 1 TB solid state drives and 6 GB of Ram was bought with the Synology DS620slim. We were able to assemble the furniture easily. A media server can be easily set up as follows It was straight forward, even after watching a few videos on Synology's Disk Station Manager software on YouTube. There are no delays - it is super fast. It can transfer files at 110 MB/second and maxes out my local 1GB network! I do not have to worry about taking up much space on my desktop with this small device. We are very pleased with what we have seen.
Installation and setup of the 620Slim are a breeze. There are a lot of cool apps you can run on it once it is set up, and it is relatively trouble-free once it is running. There are only two things I would like to change If I had to deal with heavy task loads, I would have preferred it to have a bit more processing power and to perform a bit slow. Here are the two parts. There was very little support available when I needed it. It was a good buy if you were in need of a lot of storage in a small area.
After years with a Western Digital device and not getting value for money, I switched to a Synology. It took Western Digital several attempts to set it up, but now I'm able to remotely access my drive even though I have a 5GHz CPU and 6GB of memory. Thus far, I have been pleased with the Synology. I am looking forward to getting a new one but bigger this time.
I like how easy to use the interface is
The storage capacity was right around what I expected and the speeds of the transfer are really good
Adding backups to Amazon S3 is simple as well
.
A 5" blue WD desktop drive is not raid class, and one of the six is bad.
