In fact, I'm going to go back to ASUSTOR and switch to This is 453D In a nutshell, In addition to audio and video storage, I use my NAS as a media server
3/5

QNAP offered me more storage space than my ASUSTOR NAS, so I decided to try it out. There have been intermittent issues with the HDMI Audio output ever since I bought the product. The sound will sometimes play, but it is garbled and broken, and then (like now! A. ) fails to succeed at all. There's a persistent flicker on the video as well. I have an open Service Ticket with QNAP, but this is becoming increasingly frustrating. The process of configuring and putting this device into service actually took me longer than the 30 days that are allowed by Amazon as part of their DOA policy.
Be aware Although mine was NOT DOA, it had problems that made it unreliable and, as a result, I could not use it. This was sent to me by QNAP technicians in the 2nd update Several users reported the same issue to me, so I checked with other users. Version 4 of firmware does not suffer from this issue. The build 20200529 and the Hybrid Desk Station 4 can both be found in build 220200529. Would you be able to downgrade the firmware and hybrid desk station app first, and then test whether the HDMI audio output is working? To ensure you don't lose any data after downgrading the firmware, I recommend backing them up first. Downgrading the firmware is easy if you follow this procedure. My opinion is that downgrading firmware is in no way a feasible solution. This is a lemon that I have to deal with. You can watch a video of the flickering I'm getting by clicking here. I send it to the shop for repair after someone sends me a few cryptic emails back and forth, but after just one question, it took a long time for someone to decide it would be nice to get it fixed. I believe this is a valid option, but it's not very smart for what I need. My Having reserved the right for warranty work if other failures occur or if this device continues to degrade in any way. Need a repair? It would be a foolish roll of the dice for me to make that decision. Having been an electronics technician for over 40 years and an engineer for over 30 years, I have little faith in items such as this being repaired. The experience I had was probably pretty similar to yours. These issues are ghosts that will appear again the moment I try to use the "Repaired" item causing me to be plagued by them for the entire time. In addition, I will be without access to the data for an additional period of time. Please send me your motherboard so I can swap it out on my own, but you definitely have to mail it away. You understand my position, but making sure my own data and productivity are protected is my main concern. In this case, the issues have been with the HDMI audio and display functions, and not with data storage and retrieval. As a result, I have notified all parties involved that I am concerned regarding this item, and my opinion is that the solution put To protect my data, I will have to copy it on to other media on another device. Unless I buy a new device and find someone willing to use this one, I will be back with the same device with all of the same issues. Having reserved the right for warranty work if other failures occur or if this device continues to degrade in any way. In the end, I will probably call my experience with QNAP a wash and move on It appears that I am no longer able to access the QNAP Service ticket. Rather than resolving it, they closed it out without The Customer Service Survey has been sent to me. My response was that, basically, I got a lemon and I was considering donating it to my local High School Science Club, if they could We're going to ASUSTOR again. Thank you for your time with QNAP, I think I am done with it.

The product is good, the deal is great, and the fun is plentiful
4/5

You can find a ton of comparisons between Synology Diskstation and this product. Synology has been my storage device of choice for ten My only use for it was for storage and reverse proxy. It was good, but not much else. A shot was taken at getting the cheaper licenses for Qnap's security cameras. I was surprised at how well it turned out. Reviews say there is a bad UI in this game. According to me, the UX is fine. I had a lot of fun figuring out the configuration, but had to do a lot of research before I decided on what to do with it. The main use of it is for streaming video and security cameras. It was easy to upgrade the memory. The memory was expanded by one 16GB (Timetec Hynix IC) to make it 20GB without any issues. I did not do the PCIe SSD cache since I do not plan on running a VM. I found that you can get very cheap PCIe cards that are NVMe capable. Memory 2 consists of 2 chips. It might be something I do There is no need to purchase the original expansion card. This is a much better deal than Synology from a hardware perspective. The security might be a bit of a concern, as it is more open to 3rd party software, and this could result in a riskier system. In any case, I wouldn't put anything sensitive on NAS. In order to make sure that everything stays secure, you should keep it A couple of months after I purchased the cheap PCIe card for NVMe M, I discovered a problem. Due to only having 2 memory sticks, I can only use the SSD for cache purposes. It is not possible for me to Furthermore, it is also not the best choice to cache memory before writing to my hard drive since it may fail before the write. Having said that, I believe now that Synology could be a more worthwhile choice if you really want to have a network. Since it comes with Synology NAS, it comes with 2 SSD. still costs more if I need to purchase the RAID PCIe card. Anyway, at least I will still be able to buy cheap security cameras. Due to this reason, I took a star off.

The QNAP systems are at risk of being insecure
3/5

In the event that this product was compromised, it had to become known after I purchased it that malware would be able to steal your documents as well as Your entire home network would be vulnerable to ransomware if this happens. It has not been released much information regarding how this malware can infiltrate or what steps have been taken to fix it. There was only the standard recommendation to update your firmware. In my opinion, the NAS in my home is a wonderful product, but at the present time it is just too insecure and I can't recommend it. Having this as a priority is the best decision anyone can make. In my opinion, this seems like an excellent item, except that I hope security concerns will be resolved soon. For my first NAS for the house, I would say that only if you are knowledgeable about network protocols should you get a NAS. It is very easy to leave yourself vulnerable if you don't know what you are Considering the low cost of the device and the relatively simple setup, I would have given it four stars if security issues weren't a concern. You can get a NAS system for a lot less if you have the time.

Synology would be the best choice for those using Plex
3/5

Though I had high hopes, I am actually sorry I decided to purchase While setup was fairly straightforward, setting up the software I want is not intuitive. And that was what I expected, until I realized every piece of software they boast about has a licensing fee, including the software license required to access external hard drives with exFAT file systems. I would have gone with Synology had I the chance to do it all over again. I have decided to build or at least buy my own home server so I will know that it has the CPU power I need to accomplish Another issue I had with this NAS is that it's hidden file system. This made migrating my Plex server a bit complicated by the fact that I had to search forums to find a workaround that allowed me to access the Plex system folder.
