OK for now What I Expected was Not What I Got
3/5

As soon as I bought this, I had visions of using it as a central NAS for storing shared files, storing data backups, and running a server that would serve multiple purposes (media servers, DNS servers, surveillance NVRs). I find the documentation to be lacking, the performance to be less than I expected, and some of the tasks that I had envisioned simply cannot In addition to 32GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, I added 32GB of RAM after purchasing. To begin with, SATA M is the only format supported. NVMe is not used in the two SSDs. Additionally, a solid state drive runs so hot that it isn't even usable. In spite of mounting a huge heatsink around the SSD, it still gets As far as I'm aware, I never have to use the additional RAM unless I'm working with containers that need Comparatively speaking, the new hardware is slower than the old Linux box that it is replacing in terms of data access times and RAID rebuild times. Transcoding media files is advertised by QNAP, but it is not possible to actually use it any more. There's no sign of this feature anymore after QNAP silently removed it. In fact, QVR Pro for Surveillance proved to be quite buggy, the extent to which I ended up buying a Hikvision NVR instead. A challenge was also encountered during the configuration of the shared drives. It appeared that initial setup would be straightforward, but transfer speeds were slower than expected. To finally get things working normally, I had to do quite a bit of research. Plex also does not work properly when serving 4k video. Music and 1080p videos play fine, but 4k video files simply cannot be played. If I had spent more time, I would have built a new Linux box with 8 drive bays or bought a faster one.

The setup and management of this thing are extremely simple
5/5

The product I purchased went way beyond my expectation, which is rare, but I have to say it was that with this product. At first, I was hesitant to purchase as I didn't want to spend so much money on a media server to run Plex and a file server with RAID. However, after reading everything I could about it, I decided to give it a go. (This installation replaced an old ReadyNas NV+ that was extremely finicky) and expected to execute many command line functions to access some of the advanced features (spoiler I have not had to do any of that). I love how easy it is to use and to This was a lot easier than I was expecting. Through the web portal, switching from one feature to another is easy, and the Qnap is strong enough to run Plex server transcoding to an Apple TV in the living room and simultaneously playing media on a computer in my office as well as perform file server operations simultaneously, my typical usage. As well as the other functions, I imagine I would also be able to transcode to a second device without any issues, but I haven't tried it yet. this thing is fast when copying large media files back and forth as well as backing up, so I don't anticipate I will use the other ports (it supports up to four Gigabit ports total with a special switch, which I will not be buying). I can skip chapters fairly quick when playing the BluRay disk through my BluRay player, but not as fast as when playing it from my BluRay In addition, it is very quiet when in normal operation. The server is in the basement, but you could add it to the media center in your living room and play media directly from there without crowding the living room with annoying fan noise. One thing to keep in mind, you would have to purchase the hard drives separately so factor that in. Finally, I took care of the issue by switching to Qnap since it uses less electricity than my previous stand-alone Plex server or old ReadyNAS server, and it is significantly This machine is very nicely executed.

A comparison of the pros and cons of the QNAP 4 The bay NAS can be either iSCSI or IP-connected A QNAP NAS looks like an ideal SAN device
4/5

Here are a couple of Pros and Cons The pros are I. - Buildings that are well crafted - There are two bays and a sled for the power supply*br/ There is a physical RAID and a virtual RAID- The ability to expand the interface and memory - The following are the four Ethernet ports* - Processing power for high speed-- Displays with more than one LCD A display of information on the line - The USB port is a backup port - Settings can be configured to meet individual needs - The Apps - Security of files and users - A keyboard and mouse can be connected to an LCD. You can access your information remotely or locally
Pros I. - It might be difficult in the beginning to set up this unit. However, this device is a great option that is fully configuration-driven. While the NAS does come with an initial easy setup mode, you need to dig a little deeper into the rather complex menus to ensure it is properly configured. There is only one complaint, and that is that it could be a bit less costly. I highly recommend this unit nonetheless.

A new Plex server was required to replace my old one
5/5

The QNAP TS-65 was my previous storage device There was a hardware problem with my 451 that I bought 4 years ago. However, there was no drive in bay 4 even though it continued to work. In order to determine the best course of action, I contacted QNAP support. My out of warranty repair was going to cost over half the cost of a new unit, and it was going to take several weeks before it was repaired, so I decided that I would have to buy a new one. This TVS consists of All of the reviews I checked for the 673e were very positive and Amazon gave it a "used - excellent" rating We were able to buy a "like new" one for more than $200 less than what it would have cost new. As I ordered this product, I assumed it had the original 2 year warranty and a 30-day return policy. The unit arrived, and other than some damage to the original QNAP box, the TVS-6680 was as described The condition of 673e was like it had never been used Pack up. I received all of the listed accessories in their original packaging and the protective plastic cover of the front panel of the unit was still on the I had no problems installing and configuring the product. As well, the 4 drives that were in the TS are now in My data was still intact when I transferred from the old unit to the new one. I have yet to find any inconveniences to using the new 673e in comparison to the old unit, and it is performing flawlessly as I write. The unit is an ideal option for a home or small office due to its variety of features and ease of use. In the past, I have ordered many used items from Amazon and have never had a problem with them It does not matter whether the item is working or not. Most of the time, it was difficult to tell whether they were new or not. Although sometimes, they will not be in the original packaging material, in general, all of them have been undamaged and clean. It is unlikely to be a risk because of Amazon's generous return policy. A look at it is certainly worthwhile if you are looking to save cash.
