Slow as glacial ice
3/5

The item has been returned. An image of four megabytes should take no more than a few seconds to backup. To measure how long it takes to write a thousand files, each containing 100 megabytes of random numbers, I recorded the time. Here are graphs showing the differences (remember the different vertical scales) between the old Acorndata drive that this Canvio was bought to replace and the present one. It took less than 5 seconds to write to the old Acorndata, while writing to the Canvio demanded 20 seconds or more about 1-2% of the time and took 80 seconds once. This was the mean time (2. This task takes 8 seconds with the old Acorndata, and 3 seconds with the new Acorndata. It takes about 7 seconds for the new Canvio. ) You can view other people's problems by Google searching for "why is my Canvio so slow" (without the quotation marks).

He died two months after he was diagnosed

A data recovery from Toshiba will not be possible. On April 26th, I purchased this drive. Approximately five weeks ago, the plant died. As for a replacement, Toshiba has offered, but I would lose my data, and they won't extract it. The company does not offer such a service. I have to pay a great deal of money to have a completely new drive dismantled and the files from it extracted. The replacement part that Toshiba wants me to send them (after I send them my old one with or without the data) is going to cost me a bundle. As a result, the loss of the information, if it can be recovered, is priceless to me because I used this tool to backup family photos, videos, all iPads and iPhones, etc. I am so upset that I can't even express my feelings. After 30 years in the storage industry, and in that time some hard drives have failed, but I have never had an external hard drive fail in such a short period of time. In one instance, I chose to buy an external HDD for my home and trusted it to hold all of my information, and that HDD eventually died while I stored 15+ years of information on it, and what I could recover is still unknown. Put your trust in another drive, nothing else.

P. As long as it has been connected, the drive has been stationary. I do not think it has fallen since it sits behind my PC on a cold floor in my den and has no way of being jarred or jostled. on my PC monitor and could not get my icons to load until I unplugged my external HDD. This was the first step toward what would ultimately prove to be a simple external HDD issue. The drive remains busy and there is no access to it. Rather than perform extensive troubleshooting on the drive, I took it to the shop and hooked it up to a work PC. I saw the same thing as well as the drive was always busy and had never been accessed. I have checked whether the drive has a drive letter, and I have taken all of the steps necessary to figure out what the problem is. I encourage all of you to type in "Toshiba Basics HDD" and see how many topics automatically show up in the search engine with all of the issues people are experiencing.

Take a look at the data copying test

own a couple of Canvio drives with the same size, but one of them failed after several years of service. The new ones have terrible performance. As a result, I sent for a replacement, thinking I had just received a bad one (it happens). In comparison to the first one, the new one is just as bad. I get about 20 gigs we transferred and the throughput drops. It never increased in speed even after sitting for an hour, so I am not sure if it is due to heat or what. (2).

Buying this product is not recommended - it failed after one use
3/5

My computer has been formatted for Mac OS and I have successfully backed it up with Time Machine. In addition to another external hard drive that is automatically backed up hourly, this one would be turned off-system for monthly backups. When I brought it out after one month, the Mac would not recognize the disk. The clicking sound mentioned by other reviewers is what I heard. There is no way to mount or read it on the Mac. In contacting Toshiba support, the agent acknowledged that both clicking noises and mounting problems are known to them. Basically, he said, "Ninety percent of these drives are fine. " So Toshiba's tech support employee admitted that ten percent of their drives malfunction. Are you going to use your data to play those odds? It has been 24 hours since I have been in the Amazon return window. Toshiba should really improve its manufacturing and quality control processes if they want to sell this product. And I strongly recommend that you DO NOT buy this product.

The Toshiba HDTB410XK3AA Canvio Basics 1TB Portable External Hard Drive USB 3
4/5

0 Black is a brand new products. It was great having the package shipped to me. However. . . that was the end of the box. Reading the paper that came with it, I was surprised at what it said. My computer was connected to an unused USB port, so I turned it off and turned it back on. It would be great to expect great things. The answer is nothing. There is no way to do it. There's a lot going on, and I'm disappointed. The seller should have been aware of this, as it is a pain. That's not the only person who had the same problem as me. Despite the fact that I do not even drink coffee, I went for a coffee. . . . well, I will have to investigate the matter again when I return to work tomorrow. It was really exciting to be able to use Toshiba, but now I'm very disappointed in the company. Okay, today is April 2nd. I will update you all. My first attempt at searching the Internet for the answer was unsuccessful, but I eventually found the answer and was able to download the drivers and view the hard drive. It works pretty good, and I wish it had come with drivers, but sadly, it didn't come with any. I had to go to control panel then click on system, then click on system protection, then click on system properties, then select Hardware under Device Manager, to identify the USB (by unplugging and plugging it back in to notice it) then select it and update drivers, and it worked! All right! I'll be back later.
